- Manfred Mann's Earth Band - Geronimo's Cadillac (Album:Masque - 1987)
They put Geronimo in jail down South
Where he couldn't look a gift horse in a mouth
Sergeant, Sergeant don't you feel
There's something wrong with your automobile
Warden, Warden, listen to me
Be brave and set Geronimo free
Governor, Governor, 'aint it strange
You never see a car on the Indian range
Oh boys take me back
I wanna ride in Geronimo's Cadillac
Oh boys I wanna see it for real
I wanna ride in Geronimo's automobile
Take me, take me, take me back
I wanna ride in Geronimo's [Cadillac]
Warden, Warden, don't you know
The prisoners 'aint got no place to go
It took ol'Geronimo by storm
They took the badges from his uniform
Jesus told me and I believe it's true
The redmen are in the sunset too
They stole their land and they won't give it back
And they sent Geronimo a Cadillac
Oh boys take me back
I wanna ride in Geronimo's Cadillac
Oh boys I wanna see it for real
I wanna ride in Geronimo's automobile
Take me, take me, take me back
I wanna ride in Geronimo's [Cadillac]
They put Geronimo in jail down South
Where he couldn't look a gift horse in a mouth
Sergeant, Sergeant don't you feel
There's something wrong with your automobile
Warden, Warden, listen to me
Be brave and set Geronimo free
Governor, Governor, 'aint it strange

Oh boys take me back
I wanna ride in Geronimo's Cadillac
Oh boys I wanna see it for real
I wanna ride in Geronimo's automobile
Take me, take me, take me back
I wanna ride in Geronimo's [Cadïllac]
I remember the first time I heard this back in 1972 on AT 40. Charted at #37. I thought it was a great song by Michael Martin Murphy. What did I know I was only 14 years old.. It was also the name of his first album. Unfortunately the fickle American public didn't go for it. It would be another 3 years before MMM returned to the AT 40 with Wildfire which peaked at #3. I'll still take Geronimos Cadillac!!
the best version of this song I have heard so far
Fantastic song from a much loved album. Was stationed in Germany when it came out. Very unknown in the states. What a shame!
The first version that I heard was Cher's, who did it as a gospel ballad on her 1975 album "Stars". The original was a country, while this is 80's dance pop! All 3 are in my "MM: 64 on" playlist. Thanks for the upload!
manfred is manntastic
I ❤️ MAMAIA!
Decent cover of the Michael Murphey song. It's interesting how both artists involved here have initials of MM
Hoyt Axon.
@floyd066 - Thanks for your visit and message, Greetings,Gabi
Fed nummer.
top level!
Cher did a gospel/country version which is pretty good, too. This singer sounds quite a bit like her!
A bit out of character for Manfred, but he could do Springstein better than Springstein coud do himself...
This is horrible. Hoyt Axton wrote this, not Michael Martin Murphy.
