    Can I even begin to tell you how wonderful of a tutorial this is?!?! I probably searched tutorials for a hour and a half in making a Jean quilt/Lap blanket, and they were either so confusing and wordy and not clear, or they wouldn’t get to the point and was absolutely a waste of time watching. Then I stumbled upon your little gem of a tutorial and I was like, “THIS IS WHAT IM TALKING ABOUT”!!!!! Lol. Thank you thank you thank you a million times over. Short, sweet, clear and concise and to the point with tips along the way. So refreshing. I will say though, I am a beginner sewer and binding scares and intimidates me, so I’m just going to finish it by sewing the top (Jean squares) to the bottom (fleece material) right sides together and leave a ‘10” opening to flip. Then I will top stitch all the way around and then stitch in the ditch every other seam to attach the jean top to the fleece bottom. That should work, right?! Thanks again! Can’t wait to do this!

      Bobbi! Thank you so much for your kind words and for communicating that to me. It couldn’t of come at a better time. I sure needed the encouragement today💝. As for how you will put your quilt together I can see how binding would be intimidating. And what perfect timing! Because today I have a video that will go up showing exactly how to put a Jean quilt together using that easier method. Just skip to about half way through the video and I walk you through how I put my quilt together using this easier method. Just ignore the shower lining if your quilt is an indoor quilt 😃 hope you enjoy sewing your first Jean quilt!

      Exactly I second that! Just get to it. I was intimidated by binding but once you do it it’s a piece of cake! The bringing together of the ends is tricky but it can be done.

    Hi Tamara. I really enjoyed watching your video. I’m new to quilting and have learned so much from watching different quilters videos. I’m particularly interested in this one because you use old jeans and I so love denim. In most of the cultures videos I’ve watched I’ve noticed they use the creative grids rulers. Do you recommend that particular ruler for some reason? I have a long acrylic ruler but that one seems to be prominent in most of the videos I’ve seen.

    • @TamarasJoyDIY
      @TamarasJoyDIY  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi Kimberly, They are a bit pricier but I say they are worth it. They come with some grip on the fabric side which allows the ruler to stay steady when cutting. So glad you love denim! I love it too! And free fabric is always a plus. If you check back this Christmas I made some adorable denim christmas ornaments that I can't wait to share!

    Why did u choose to stabilize your cotton fabrics? Finally found a video for what I’m looking to make! Yay

    • @TamarasJoyDIY
      @TamarasJoyDIY  Před 2 lety

      Hi Melissa. I chose to stabilize the cotton to make it stiffer. I wanted it to feel similar to the Jean material. But it really is optional. And probably not that necessary if you do some batting in between the top and bottom layer. Hope you enjoy sewing your Jean quilt!

    Your videos are exemplary; and are greatly appreciated. At 6:40, extend STITCH LENGTH to what number, Please?!! The STITCH LENGTH is also missing from tip #16 in your "20 TIPS for quilting with old blue jeans." By letting us know what works best for you, we have a starting point for our stitching. Thank you Tamara.

    • @TamarasJoyDIY
      @TamarasJoyDIY  Před rokem +1

      Thank you! I didn’t mention stitch length because I was assuming most beginners work with machines that let you up the length but not by number. I normally see with a 2.5 and then up it to a 3 when I want a nicer topstitch. Hope that helps and happy sewing!

    What is the quilt pattern that is behind you in the video? I’m intrigued

    • @jilbertb
      @jilbertb Před 3 měsíci +1

      It's a four patch and an economy block, alternating each row and placed on point.
      Fairly simple actually...

    My apologies for having been raised by an English teacher who drilled proper pronunciation into me. Iron is not pronounced i-Ron in British, Australian or American English. 😮

    • @TamarasJoyDIY
      @TamarasJoyDIY  Před rokem +1

      Funny enough I was raised by a French teacher who also drilled proper pronunciation into me. But that has nothing to do with why I say iron the way I do. Somehow I must have never used that word around her 😂. My new videos I have corrected myself. Happy sewing Sue! 🧵
