    MaskLab deserves credit for the high-filtering and breathable colorful media. When Albert talks about the nose wire (at about minute 27) I would personally have preferred the "more restrictive" 5mm. I added a couple of adhesive metal strips to make the supplied one firmer. Also wanted a bit more tension on the earloops. I feel that some buyers aren't too impressed with the consequences of a good "seal." I would rather live with a bit of "crinkle" as accurately mentioned by Rebekah (in response to "Elaine" post), than worry about an adequate "seal".

    I just moved back to Vancouver, Canada from the UK and had close to 20 hours of continuous time in a mask and 2 flights, my wife and I wore the masklab KF masks and found them quite comfortable. Great interview, I will continue to purchase from them as they seem like a company that cares about the product.

    My friend gave me a few of her respirators from MaskLab to try, and they were so much better than anything else I'd tried! Mine seem to be stuck in Redmond, Washington (as of 5 Jan 2022) for some reason, and need to fly their way up to me here in Vancouver, but I'm really looking forward to not having to MacGyver things!
    One thing me and my narrow face will continue to do is use eyelash glue. It helps me form a decent seal over the bridge of my nose and a few centimetres on each side. The glue doesn't last as long as the 40-hr-rated MaskLab respirator, but I can reapply it.
    Thank-you Aaron!

    I just wanted to share with you how beneficial your mask testing is. As a flight instructor social distancing is an impossibility, but thankfully I am self employed so I have been able to selectively limit myself to a couple students who I feel are extremely low risk. Unfortunately a couple weeks ago one of my students called me to tell me he tested positive for Covid mere hours after a 2 hour sim lesson. Thankfully I had watched your videos and was wearing the BOTN mask I’d seen reviewed in your videos (he was wearing a basic cloth mask). Two weeks later I’m still negative and would like to give you a massive thank you for what you do, I credit the mask you recommended for keeping me healthy! THANK YOU!!! 👏👏👏

      I’ve ordered from .hk twice and .us twice. For 1-4 boxes It is probably cheaper to go with the us site for 5 or more it may be cheaper to go with the hk site. At least for shipment to the Great Lakes area. Here are my stats:
      US 4 box/10 = $100 masks + $0 ship ordered 1-7 delivered 1-18
      HK 5 box/10 = $40 masks + $50 ship ordered 1/25 delivered 1-29
      HK 8 box/10 = $70 masks + $60 ship ordered 1/25 delivered 1-29
      US 1 box/10 + 5 pk buckles = $35 merch + $9 ship 1/31 ordered ? Delivered (1 week??)
      No, I do not wear that many masks. About 8 from each box are gifted so I keep 2 and have a ton of variety to wear.
      Edit: I used DHL Express shipping. A little more $, a little less time.

    We ordered a black version and a marbled pink version of MaskLab masks. The order arrived in just a few days. Dave was more sensitive to breathability but has no problem wearing the MaskLab mask. The mask does not have adjustable loops, so I had to figure out a way to tighten the ear loops. It turns out placing the ear loop through a standard bead worked for me. I now notice there is a bead/hook set in their accessory product section. Thanks for the info. We will feel more comfortable and confident we are being protected sitting for long periods on the plane during travels now.

    I love these masks! I ordered a bunch of them for my family for Christmas. One problem I’ve noticed though is the way the name is melted into the front of the mask makes the area weak and prone to small holes. For now I’ve started putting a piece of clear tape over the name to reinforce the area. I would like to get in touch with the company to let them know because I think the problem could be solved by moving the placement of the name, but I’m not sure how best to reach them.

    I just got mine - I ordered 7 boxes, so 70 masks with a pack of loop tighteners from Hong Kong for $120 USD (about $150 CND) Canadians are so limited in our Kf94 options. We can get GoodManner from a Canadian distributor, I have ordered BOTN from US Amazon but most places are not shipping here or with exchange and shipping we are paying between $4 and $6 CND a mask.
    This is a really fabulous and economical option for Canadians - I would recommend going in with friends and buying a large order to cut down on the shipping cost as it’s the same for 1 box or 20 boxes. So far, it seems really light and easy to breathe in and it fits my smaller face perfectly.

    Aaron, first thank you for doing such a terrific job educating us about the efficacy of the different masks. My comment is about this particular video, and more specifically about MaskLab USA. They may be overwhelmed so their service is "poor to nil" - ie, extremely sloooooooooow! Their Customer Service department is equally overwhelmed because there isn't any service - only generic responses to inquiries about status of orders. While these masks look good, they are very pricey (but I thought worthwhile since these were meant to be gifts for family), there's no customer service (only generic responses), I am going to give up and count my purchase as a loss.

      One weird thing I noticed in their marketing video - which tells the story of a mom and daughter feeling blue about not being able to visit grandpa and then receiving a surprise package of masks from him, after which they go for a visit - is that it shows the mom and daughter using the travel mask only when travelling. When they arrive at grandpa's, they switch to the surgical style mask. Strange approach IMHO. One mask for travelling and one for when you arrive.

    • @mattwright9596
      @mattwright9596 Před 3 lety

      Oh - I think I answered my own question. High pressure drop means these will be harder to breathe in. Seems like Lutema's solution for this is to make one mask for 'high risk' scenarios (like travel) that's super-protective but hard to breathe in, and one that's easier to breathe in for'lower risk' scenarios. I don't know if I agree that a long visit with grandpa indoors is lower risk, but maybe fewer unknowns there. Masklab clearly has a better approach to this!

    I think face fit deserves a bit more discussion. Are they able to test on non-Asian faces? If you have a French super-long nose, it can be challenging. They could use 3d-printed face models to test that. Also, the ECDC does not push for general FFP2 use because they think people don't fit masks correctly. Owning the 'superior fit' tag would be valuable to the brand.

Coco Love is psychedelic. 2 out of 7 boxes have the new nosepiece, so I ordered during the transition. No problem, they fit well on me, and are light and easy to breathe through. I bought their accessory cord locks and use them; the earloops are large. Expiration date is 3 years out. I bought several variations of the Masklab KF series and was very disappointed to note that the designs on the masks don't all match the designs advertised on their website or even on the boxes. I get that shipping is free in Hong Kong, but why triple the price for the US? On the + side: They are the only mask company I found that has a return option. And, the price is still much less than what I paid last year for cloth masks.

      Regarding the HK site, if you process the order to the point of purchase, the shipping is about $43.00 minimum. The best value from HK is buying in bulk, like 4 to 6 boxes of 10 mask each (40 to 60 masks). With shipping the total will be around $110.00, but averages about $1.70 per mask. EMS (via HK Post) takes 2 weeks and DHL is a little more $, but 7 to 10 days. This is to the U.S. from HK, I hope this helps.

      You don't see a ton of KF80's in the US, but they in theory offer 80% protection of 0.4um particles(vs 94% with a KF94), but in general my tests have shown many of them to perform much better than that and provide still excellent protection. I think the reality is that media has far surpassed the old regulations so now you can get very breathable masks that still offer 90+% protection easily.

      the Masklab KF94 fits my small teen daughter and me an average frame adult, the BOTN medium fits her the face the best along with Dr Puri medium. BOTN breathes the best for running hard exercise with no mask collapse. Bluna facefit, fits also but its a bit bigger and much like the masklab but Bluna does have the adjustable ear loops like the BOTN . So all in all, for easiest -straight out of package-sport and movement a well as breathability in a mask for our needs for a small female face is BOTN medium. My D really like the Masklab overall and were huge fans but I'd say that masklab materials are abit more "crinkly sounding" and do look best(new) unwrinkled at top area by eyes/nose) with under 20 hours weartime whereas the BOTN holds shape really well. We love the color options on the masklab options though! ( yes the masklab KF94's would certainly benefit bybthem adding a bigger stiffer nosewire and adjusters on the ear loops-we add our own adjusters).

      The blunas are a tad too big for me top to bottom. But they are a great mask. Tests well for Aaron. Comfortable to wear. They are the ones my mom has choosen.
      The masklab masks are easily the lightest and airiest mask I've tried. They are so airy that if Aaron hadn't tested them, I would have dismissed them as bogus. However, for me and my mom, they are too big top to bottom. From cutting in at my throat to landing just under our eyes. And if I tilt my head, that pushes the mask up into my eyes. Do you suggest double masking N95s, KN95s, or KF94s with another N95, KN95, or KF94?
    How do you sterilize these masks?
    I, personally wash them with oxygen bleach and powdered detergent and water (i am curious how much filtration efficiency is destroyed every time I wash them with this method). The reason why I wash them is because I chose to be 99.99% sure that the virus is absolutely dead rather than overthinking that there are still some virus present from letting them sit for a week. I know there are 3 known methods other than letting them sit for a week that are tested by experts that doesn't destroy the filtration efficiency which are Vaporous Hydrogen Peroxide, UV, and Heat from oven. I do not have access to all of these 3. Even if I have UV or an Oven it takes a ton of electricity bills to even run them (i think).
    and the last questions that will finally put me at peace is
    what will be the filtration efficiency of an N95, KN95, or KF94 that is either washed in detergent or my method and then double, maybe triple mask them? I want to know that using reused n95s that have significantly decreased filtration efficiency and double masking them with a reused n95 with also decreased filtration efficiency will increase the filtration efficiency to near n95 levels.

      @annnonomys3132 Před 3 lety +3

      I am not an expert.
      As I understand it, the CDC is recommending NOT double masking N95s. A second mask could defeat the face seal by deforming it. If it's a quality mask, it does not need a second mask. Those you listed are quality masks.
      If I understand correctly, Aaron and other experts recommend that you do NOT wash any mask other than cloth. It is not recommended that they be sprayed with anything either . 1) Inhaling those cleaners is probably bad for you. 2) Quality respirators depend upon an internal static charge. Cleaners might wipe that charge out. Instead of cleaning, it's recommended that after each wearing, that a mask be set aside for some number of days before wearing again. Let it dry and the virus will die. I'm seeing at least 4 days. I'm going with 7. Hang the mask where any virus that might be on it won't be circulated. For example, don't put it near a vent on your car's dash board or hang it on your rear view mirror next to your face. Get a set of masks and rotate through them while the others dry.

Buying and discarding these respirators seems too costly and even investing on special disinfectants.
