It's a niche game over here that has a very loyal albeit small fan base. My guess is that it will get a digital only release eventually. At least I really hope so...

It saddens me that most of the comments on this video are people who are turned off by the resolution and framerate (of a DEMO, keep in mind) and will never consider giving this wonderful series a chance. Your loss, guys. Us fans'll just keep having fun with our 150+ hours worth of content per game and fun and memorable characters and everything else Yakuza has to offer.

I don't think anime art styles are inherently a bad thing(just look at Guilty Gear) but I think it's refreshing to see a Japanese game go for a more realistic art style

The Yakuza series was never about graphics so I would not expect a huge graphics revolution this time around. But Japanese streets look cool.

+Tropic Moon you will ALWAYS have this issue, even on pc, unless you buy one of the top 2 gpus every 2 years. Personally I want every game at 1080p/60. I play 1080p/144hz and lower settings on my 970 to get 100+ in games. The smoothness and clarity is much more beneficial than a couple lighting effects.

Those street signs and characters look BEAUTIFUL. The series always came across as "retro" so I didn't expect cutting-edge graphics, but the lighting and shadows just make everything look so much better

I don't really care when it comes to Yakuza, sure it would be great if it would run at 60fps, but most of the previous games didn't run that great either and this one looks miles better than the others.

i have never seen a game perform bad in a demo and better in the final version, same with visuals. THIS is how the game will be, a sub 30fps, low resolution game.

i didn't know final fantasy was released already? the game will prolly have some improvement, but keep in mind, this is an open demo, final fantasy is a closed one, plus, the game is not even close to finished compared to yakuza here.
+war weeny FFXV is likely just as finished, if not more so, than Yakuza 6. Last I checked both are expected to hit this year, but there's rumblings that FFXV will hit in summer whereas Yakuza will likely hit the tail end of the year.

It's a new engine, that's why the frame rate went down to 30 fps. It's up to developer. Seriously, even rise of the tomb raider can't hold 60 fps on console, PC can go higher and higher.

Wow, I am happy to see the new Yakuza game, but also a bit disappointed with the demo not being able to maintain 30fps... I would rather have 60fps than the new physics.

Wow? You're telling me that the hardware (ps4) can't run better graphic games with tons of physics and so forth at the same frame rate and resolution as a ps3/ps4 cross gen game?
It was to be expected and the gameplay and graphics are honestly gorgeous, it was the shot in the arm the series needed and I loved yakuza 6 as a long standing yakuza fan since the 2nd on ps2. It was the first game in a new engine too, Kiwami 2 looks to improve upon it heavily, can't wait to see the new series with the new main.
I'd rather developers push tech even if it struggles with resolution and framerate some, albeit still at a point where it's playable. Albeit I don't want that to only be with graphics but gameplay innovations.
If it was a cross gen game or a remaster, that'd be another story. I'd be willing to get this game again on ps5 as a remaster with 4k 60fps or whatever but I'm glad that they chose to innovate instead of playing it safe.
My biggest concern is what did the do to my beautiful heat System?
Those context sensitive brutal moves where my favorite part of the combat, and they are seemingly replaced with a mash for more damage, non context sensitive system.
There are still many brutal heat moves. The ones were you mash the button are new. You still have the old ones tied to environment, objects etc.
looks great and plays smoothly enough regardless. would b a day 1 purchase if it has a great story, as I'm a fan of this series and so far this is looking set 2 be excellent.XD

I think we tend to let JP devs who primarily work on console games way more leniency in regards to technical performance, frame-rates and resolution. Take Dark Souls 1 for example, horrific frame-drops and a ducking awful console port on PC but we assume that's because the Japenese devs don't have a lot of experience working to these kinds of standards.
Not saying we should let them get away with worse performance, or that we shouldn't criticise the games, just that you have to contextualise that games like Yakuza aren't made to appeal to the expectations we have of western releases.

I just got into the series so i'm okay with it lmao. Just got Yakuza 0, kiwami in the summer and then Yakuza 6 maybe January/Febuary

I don't see why they needed to "upgrade" the graphics, the graphics in Yakuza 0 still look pretty good considering it's 1080p 60fps.

because Yakuza is not a game about Japanese mafia. Things are a lot deeper than that.

On the surface level, they are similar: open-world sandbox games with Eastern crime syndicates being involved in the story to a varying degree. However, keep in mind that Yakuza series is less like GTA and more like Shenmue: an action-adventure/brawler game with RPG elements and insane level of attention to details.
Think of this less as gta/sleeping dogs and more like a beat em up jrpg set in modern cities based on the red light districts of japan.
It's more related to something like final fantasy than it is sleeping dogs I'd say.
The characters are exceptionally well written, acted, etc. Every character feels like they have real motivations and so forth. Yakuza also gives you a lot of value for your money, both in diversity and quantity of quality.
Never played a Yakuza game, but this looks cool as fuck. Maybe I ought to try this series out.

+LIONREV7 I'd start with 3 actually 4 has many protagonists but the series protagonist is Kazuma, and 3 is focused on him alone. Since the characters are what carry the stories in the series, I'd try to get started knowing the main guy.
1 and 2 are also great, but dated since they are ps2 games. There is a recap of the story in every sequel tho.
Although,there is a yakuza 1 remake called yakuza kiwami for ps4

Frame dropping has been a problem in Yakuza since the first games :/ especially in 3,4,5. Too bad they still haven't fixed that.

Nice vid, question: The "collision" animation when running into other people around 0:44 to 0:50 in the video is slightly concerning due to the amount of distance he steps sideways. Do you find he ends up getting stuck or colliding with objects like that street roadsign which slows him down more?.... or it is all good and fairly smooth?
+TheKumara Eh, it actually feels quite good to play. There's a fluidity to the controls that was missing in the previous games.
+TheKumara Plus it's a fairly early demo. Sega's taking feedback for the feel of the combat and the character movement, so expect things to change between now and then.

Sadly even with today's technology, developer seems still unable to make object not "mysteriously disappear" after being broken thrown etc.
The final game deserves an analysis. Indoor areas suffer from amazing levels of screen tearing.

Games like Saints Row 4 and TLoU on PS3 are 30 fps but feel a lot less laggy than some 60 fps games, DF can you explain that? It is because of a different vsync or buffer method or is it simply how to code implements inputs?

+Killermusicification and why are graphics so important to begin with... Both series are focused on their characters not uber realistic graphics... Both feature stylized characters anyway (based on real people, yes, but the proportions, movements etc are hard to classify as realistic).
If it was meant to be a graphics benchmark it would be released on pc, which is irrelevant in japan. AKA not released at all.
shenmue 3 will have a bigger open world, 100% sure of that. But it will run with Unreal engine 4, i think it will have better graphics than yakuza

Shenmue 3 is a comparatively low budget production for the size of game they're going for. I have backed the campaign with all i could spare, but i don't expect it to look awesome, just good enough to carry the story along. I think there are more likely to be gaffes in animation quality than in the world presentation to be honest, and i wonder how they're going to upkeep the high degree of environmental interactivity, or how much will get lost.

PS4 Pro has the ability to do fp16 calculations for particle effects, so they actually can optimize it to 60 FPS.

Imagine if sega poured this talent and money into a sonic, sky's of arcadia or Virtua fighter new release? +Ben Evens if a game runs 900p on PS4, then 99% of the time it runs 720p on Xbone. Really this gen should be 900p/60fps MINIMUM. Xbone would still struggle though due to bandwidth and gpu. It's a 7790 or 360 using 2400mhz DDR3 instead of GDDR5.

Im not much of a beat 'em up fan or fighting game fan, nor a Yakuza fan but god damn if this doesn't look cool.
WTF, i mean, only now people care about performance, for example, on PS2 and PS3 there were games that performed like ass, Metal Gear Solid 3 drops to 14 fps, GTA Vice City drops to 19 fps when driving, GTA IV on PS3 drops at 19 fps when there's too much shit on the screen, Metal Gear Solid 4 the same thing; Now on PS4 the games usually work at 25-30 fps and sometimes even better with some exceptions and you complain? so fucking ironic man.
If you guys want a game that takes full advantage of the PS4 hardware, don't buy niche Japanese games. The Yakuza series has never delivered cutting edge visuals on any platform its been on. I play Yakuza for gameplay and story, not graphics.

For a early version of the dragon engine actually runs well, now the PS4 can't handle it and it's still one of the best looking titles on the ps4
