    I recently updated my editing software, so welcome to a new era of fewer pixelated images and less ghosting! In the previous versions, when I would shrink certain images they would get kinda pixel-y and bad, so hopefully this video will look noticeably more crisp and shiny. Let me know if you do see a difference with the visuals.
    (Ironically, I was dealing with an episode with some of the most smudgy screencaps, lol. Maybe I need to buy a new Season 7 DVD.)

      I said it before and I'll say it again. Do the video on picking the best segments from each non-treehouse of horror anthology segment. Here's how I may actually do it
      Instead of a top 10 or 20 list, you'll review each non-treehouse of horror anthology episode and its segments and "pick" the greatest segment in that episode.
      So, e.g. Season 8: The Simpsons Spin-Off Showcase. My favorite segment of that one is the Chief Wiggum segment.
      Then move to the next one, review all three segments, pick the best one and repeat until you get to the latest one at the time. (Season 32: Now Museum, Now You Don't)
      You can count short 1-minute segments like Homer as King Solomon but I would recommend not to count those short segments and only count the three main ones.

    I think it’s crazy that Steamed Hams is so perfectly written that, even having seen it meme’d to death, it’s still legitimately still super funny to me. It’s just the perfect comedy set up, and perfectly cast with Chalmers and Skinner. I love how unnecessarily perceptive and confrontational Chalmers is the entire time, while Skinner just keeps snowballing the most pointless lie ever. The Aurora Borealis bit genuinely is lightning in a bottle, I have no idea how anyone even came up with that.
    ‘Aurora Borealis?? At this time of year, at this time of day, in this part of the country, localized ENTIRELY within your kitchen?!’

    My favourite line from the Burns/Smithers segment is Smither's iconic line:

    Steamed Hams has to be number 1, but i live everything with Nelson and the Very Tall Man. In a format bending episode, it almost feels like this is the segment that most threatens to break the reality if the show, that the Very Tall Man is almost this sort of spectre of a man who refuses to laugh along and who will respond to the cartoony antics around him with righteous indignation. He is the Lester, Eliza, and Frank Grimes to Nelson.

Forget Ol' Grimey, this guy could be Nelson's Sideshow Bob. :P

I’m sure I’m not the only one who grew up with the episode and I always enjoyed these scenes. As an Spanish-speaker who grew up with the Simpsons' Neutral Spanish dub I was amused when I saw the original version, with all the broken Spanish. I saw in a video made by Max Power, a Simpson-focused CZcamsr from Colombia, that the Spanish was written by a member from the show's staff that was of Hispanic descent but she knew very little of actual Spanish, so you had things like "Woodpeckero" which was changed in the Spanish dub as the correct "Pájaro carpintero". I always thought the sketch was more of a direct parody to Roberto Bolaños' shows like El Chapulín Colorado, but as someone who grew up watching things like El Chavo del 8, the slapstick wasn't as extreme as in the Bumblebee Man sequence

    I'm shocked given how much repeat the Simpsons have done in plots, they've only technically done two other multi-pov stories that all connect in Trilogy of Error and that one in the cave. Unless I'm missing some others.
    I'm surprised during the second Al Jean era they didn't do 22 more films on Springfield.

    I personally have a soft spot for the Lisa story, especially the ending part. It feels like a perfect encapsulation of a lot of her character (the frustration with other people's incompetence, the desire to look grown-up, the sensitivity to peer pressure), the slapstick with the bees is good, and the escalation of random-ass side characters to give bad advice is hilarious. Also, the kindly barber with the bald-spot fakeout is the perfect mixture of misdirection for good comedy and sweetness.

    • @alexpotts6520
      @alexpotts6520 Před 5 měsíci +2

      This is a nice way of looking at it.
      Overall I just don't think the format of the episode really does much for a character like Lisa. It's great for the minor characters without much depth to them, that do one thing and do it well - they can have a sketch where they do their one thing, then move on before they outstay their welcome (Cletus would be a great example). Lisa really isn't that sort of character - she's much better suited as either the main character in a half-hour story, or as a source of wisdom/dropper of truth bombs dropping in to comment on another character's story arc.

    • @KyleRayner12
      @KyleRayner12 Před 5 měsíci

      @@alexpotts6520 True, but it would've been weird if she and Marge weren't there at all, and I think it was smart to give her one of the longer plots woven throughout, as it fits a little better with her being relatively more subdued and taking longer for things to escalate.

    I was always confused by Lisa's bald spot. If her skin is yellow, how is the bald spot white? It makes it look like her whole body is covered in fur, and would also have white skin underneath if you shaved it off... Even as a child that made no sense to me (nor did the lack or hairline, her and Bart just have spiky heads).

    • @PanAndScanBuddy
      @PanAndScanBuddy Před 5 měsíci +1

But I absolutely LOVE Homer and Maggie’s segment: Homer writes a Lassie-esque note demanding help in CHEESE, then gives it to the dog, who quickly shakes the note off, and promptly laps up the cheese. This was a Bond-villain-evil-scheme, but Homer’s style with the confines of his flawed intellect. I freaking love it!
