    Drake’s skin colour has nothing to do with Mos Def’s point of view on this. Yasiin’s had the same opinion on hip hop, commercialization and the industry since jump. Go back to his debut album, and listen to track #2. Drake got caught in the cross hairs of what Mos Def’s target has been for years. He needs his hip hop to mean something, to be substantive. We all know that a lot hip hop isn’t but that besides the point.

    • @richg4011
      @richg4011 Před 6 měsíci

      Its not even just a lot. Literally 95% of hip hop for 30 years has not been ANY OF THESE DEFINITIONS. Whens the last time youve seen mos def at a red bull bc one promoting bboying. Whens the last time youve seen krs-one at a house dance competition. Whens the............ I could go on and on. I know what the feeling is thats missing in hip hop, but sorry, its been gone for so long now, and the last bastion of it was the early 2000s with missy elliot and them keeping it in their videos, and making music for the hip hop heads on a mainstream scale and platform.
      Hip hop is now drug addicted, semi literate, dummies, babbling nonsense over bass. Men and women. At least when hip hop was getting away from the so called 4 core centers, we still got great ass music and albums for a couple decades. Even the gangsta ish was a move in the wrong direction, but we got some really great music, stories, and expression out of it. Dis ish now, whatever. There has never been a lil baby until lil baby or a young thug until young thug, because that shit sounds so stupid that you would NEVER think to put these 77 IQ morons on any track ever. Anyone that was like them back then made it nowhere fast. Cause 90% of rappers fail, and are just pump faking on IG waiting to catch a rico or get dead.

      @@TheAfricaice Nahhh if he had never been on a tv show and his background really was from the bottom to the top, he'd be fine. But that's not the case is it. Plus he's painfully corny with the 'tings' and fake patois shit, its lame. Then all the Quentin Miller shit fucked his pen game up and Pusha ethered him with the story of adidon - that's what tarnishes his legacy. Not his skin color that's bullshit, if anything being light skinned is what allows him to transcend into global pop status. Skin color prejudice is really a black thing, everyone else views y'all as black regardless of shade. So in short the only people that dont fuck with him like that because he's light skinned are dark skinned. There are no white fans of his that say shit like that " aah man he'd be better if he was darker " Imagine his spanish fans saying the same shit its ridiculous. TLDR - That's bullshit, drake is just corny.

    This is the beauty of hip hop that we can have these kinds of debates. For me hip hop is everything, an art that imitates and remixes all styles/lifestyle, from the past, present and future. In my opinion I say hip hop is just a fly way of self expression from a universal perspective. What differentiates is the purity forms that’s all. Therefore technically everyone is right in this conversation.

    Disrespecting Mos Def is blasphemy “Black on Both Sides” is a hip hop classic Mos always kept it conscious he’s the real deal he is hip hop he can say what ever he wants he earned his keep in this shit. When is the last time drake stood up for oppression or said anything conscious in his music? Where’s his Brenda got a baby or Keisha song? He just plays it safe he’s nothing more then a MC hammer or a puffy with a bunch of ghost writers making his music nothing comes from him. it’s like what Tupac said there’s gonna be rappers with little nuts playing it safe or there’s gonna be the ones with big nuts that’s gonna rap against the system. Just look at the Take over freestyle mos def did he almost got canceled by the you know who ✡️ “a tall Israeli is running this rap shit closet homosexuals is running this rap shit” and mos def was doing good after his 1st album he didn’t have to do that freestyle and risk his entire career in the early 2000s at that! He did it because he stood on what he believed in and that’s hip hop. I wanna see drake do some shit like that ohh yeah I forgot he did black face back in the day for a “anti racist” photoshoot yet he can’t talk about “political” shit in his music 😂

    Who holds more weight. The most talented or the most popular???
    On 1 hand the most talented understand the soul of hip hop but lack influence. On the other hand the most popular hold influence but lack the soul.
    Arent they just 2 sides of the same coin. What would happen if they collabed
    Soul + influence =

    Yas's greater point blew right past everybody except maybe the dude here who had a little pushback. Now the question is this: do they also claim "old town road" dude as hip hop? How about mgk? Or the dude blowing up now, JamWayne? Or riff raff?
    And after finally having seen the actual clip tonight, I believe Yas said that Aubrey _used to be_ hip hop, implying he's moved onto other, broader types of music....

    I haven't commented in length in a long time. Shyt, I may have been blocked.
    Anyway, Maths need to inject colorism into his analysis is a part of Caribbean culture. Please stop imposing your culture on us. Thank you. It's very irresponsible to have a such a huge platform and make baseless claims, especially seeing that Mos is technically light skin. So, how's that male any sense?
    No, Mos didn't call out Drake because he dislikes like skin people. That's a part of the New New York I am currently grabbling with--caribbean colorism. It's very disturbing. Mos called out Drake because he hasn't added anything significant to the culture. What has he contributed besides emotionalism and simping? Seriously. That's it.
