I've gotten hooked on these videos, not only because of the great cars (like this one). But also because Bill is one of the best car presenters I've seen, and I watch ALOT of car videos. With his encyclopedic knowledge of European cars, and great wit (Goddam Birds!, Mosquitos!.......little bastards!, Weedeaters!, Making soup out of ketchup and water!!, Big Canadians!!!).This guy is a rockstar. Gotta meet him someday. My wife and I are watching all of his videos, mainly for the entertainment value. But we're also drooling over the gorgeous vintage cars that are all in showroom condition. The Transmission is a 7 Speed and is not made by ZF... it is a built by Mercedes-Benz.. it's called the 7G Tronic. The 2000-2002 W220 cars have the 5G Tronic 5 speed..

Its funny that the w140 he showed a while ago he never said the trunk handle always broke ,or every part cost a 1000 bucks. I absolutely hate the headlights on this car , and the rear lights also, w140 better.
LMAO Bill, you are the best! :D I bought a 2000 model S430 back in 2012 for half the regular asking price as the car had some issues. I have to agree, the seats were supremely comfortable, and the V8 (while only a 4.3L) was very smooth. Unfortunately, it was a highish mileage car with a few problems, so I got rid of it after 1 year. As you mentioned, the sound insulation was AMAZING!
Even though the facelift 2003 have better suspension, the pre face-lift had less electrical problems. My 2003 s500 drain batteries and no one knows how to fix it. I know of another person having the same problem. The people I know having the pre face- lift didn't have that problem. Anyone out there experience the same problem?

These models are notorious for having balance shaft issues, among a million other issues. Forget the high price of getting the issues fixed, as a Mercedes owner I spend every other weekend at the dealership with one problem or another. I am in a rental most of the time. I own a 2015 e class as well as a 2014 GLK. You’d be a lunatic for getting a Mercedes.
The Architect I take immaculate care of all my cars. You can service them accordingly, that will not stop a balance shaft from going out. Do some research on E Class and S class balance shaft issues, you’ll find a plethora of customers experiencing this.

They were expensive they are not so expensive anymore they are as reliable as modern cars only thing is the sbc brakes that are expensive even the air suspension had repair kits available. Just get an indy that's honest and knows these cars and you will be set

I think the real reason why you feel so special in a MB is because it's a S Class (special class), and it's not a rebadged Toyota (Lexus), Nissan (Infiniti), Honda (Acura), Volkswagen (Audi) or Ford (Lincoln). Why do American car reviewers always talk about going 120 (mph) down the Autobahn when reviewing big luxury sedans in America? Do you realise that the Autobahns are only in Germany and that the car you are reviewing will most likely never set wheel on European soil?
bought my car second hand last year ... it has a cheesy aftermarket alarm. thankfully its tied into the factory fob so i dont have some weird remote, but i fear the day it decides to stop me from driving away...

I remember riding in a car like that when it was launched to the market. What a wonderful car. Imperial comfort, exudes quality and had technological aspects such as cylinder deactivation, cruise control with adaptive function, which are still desired today.
Do not buy one of these cars. You will spend on the average 500.00 just to keep it on the road. I spent 2400.00 on a new air-conditioning, 1400.00 new gearshift, 800.00 new spark plugs and wires, 400.00 cd changer, and it still needs more work. I do love this car but it takes all the fun away when you stay in the shop.

Yeah 2003 had 722.6 still, then 2004 some used 722.9.
My uncle has got this nice s 500 from 2001 and when you like to actelerate the sound is unexpected.
