Sealing the Sole Plate with Huber ZIP System Liquid Flash

- Today I used Huber ZIP System Liquid Flash (@ZipSystemSheathing) to seal the edge of the sole plate in the addition. I kind-of dreaded this job because to do it right I needed to vacuum the entire joint then scrub and rinse it to get it perfectly clean. After that I dried the joint by moving a fan from area to area the rest of the day and overnight. With the joint clean and dry, I applied the Huber ZIP System Liquid Flash in about a 1/4" bead all the way around the room, and followed up by smoothing and pressing it into the joint with a tongue depressor.

The fact that you built a whole add on to your house by yourself is awesome
Thanks Cole! We actually built the house as well. Me my son and my friend Kevin who comments here occasionally -- built it 10 years ago. There are only a couple of videos though. 😟 With any luck I'll be building a woodshop soon -- maybe next year and capture the entire thing 😊
The room is coming along pretty good. You have more patients to do that sealing than I do. Good work.
Thanks 51ubetcha
, this was another one of those things I just didn't want to do. I'm real glad it's done though... it almost made me wish I was drywalling 😜
I love caulking, so satisfying!
I do as well! This job was a bit uncomfortable being at ground level on concrete, but things look so nice so quick, it certainly is satisfying!
Amazing amount of work. At least you have the right tools and the knowhow. Pretty amazing. Thanks.
Thank you Samlon! I just went out and tested the liquid flashing, and it's finally 'dry'. It's pretty interesting stuff. I'll show it during the wine racking video...
Good job!
Thank you Sadie!
Really coming along
Thank you Luciano!
Seems like a good product
Hi Joe. It's an awesome tool, especially for handyman work.
Looks like a nice product
It's an awesome product!
Good work! I had never heard of the zip tube flashing caulk. Cool stuff, I'm interested to see how well it works. Stay safe!
Thanks Patriot Acres in Texas
-- I actually learned about the liquid flashing and other Zip System stuff from Matt Risinger: czcams.com/users/MattRisinger
who is a fellow Texan. He has a great building channel. I never seen it used for this purpose before, but it seems to be working great so-far 😊
I'm not sure that it showed, but there was a good deal of crud in the areas that were scrubbed. Because the walls were up for a couple of months before the roof went in -- and even then there were open window/door holes -- whenever it rained the water was trapped in the room area. This caused a lot of fine dirt, sawdust, etc. to collect in that area. Now it's all clean and sealed up. No worries 😊 The Liquid Flashing can be found here: amzn.to/38Q6JGh

Mr. Mojo you made that project look easy on the video , but I figure it took quite some time and elbow-grease to complete it!! Have a great evening sir!
Thanks Americo, and have a great evening yourself! 😁
One more project to tick off the list whilst you wait for more drywall.
Thanks Drue! It's always nice to tick off these nastier projects and be done with them!
Why did you use the Zip liquid flashing vs. just using a caulk of some sort? Doesn't caulk waterproof it?
This stuff sticks way better tan caulk, and is durable as hell. If I didn't use this though, I would have used a very high-end caulk like OSI Quad that is specifically designed for treated wood _and_ concrete.
did you do this on the outside too? Because if not, you might of just made a trap for water to stay under your sill plate.
The outside is sealed differently from the inside, but it is sealed-up good.
im a bit confused why not clean with only water its actually a great solvent? soap is a great lubricant and if you were worried about sticking you might want to avoid it without washing the soap residue off
Water is a pretty good solvent, but water + degreaser is far better 😊 It worked very well.
I don't understand why you would this inside. Isn't liquid flashing used on the outside of shething?
I am using it for a different purpose - to seal a sill plate. I explain that in the video.
@@PlanetMojo I guessed I missed it, if you used to seal air out.
@@ekoms108 I used it to seal everything out. Air, water, bugs, etc.
Tick off another thing while you wait for more drywall. 😁
Is there much smell ??
I had a note to mention that but forgot all about it. No, there is not much to it. A very mild 'caulk-like' smell when it was going in, and it's gone completely now. Thanks for reminding me! 🙂
