  • The conservatory in Adelaide Botanic Garden, South Australia, is one of Australia's most prized buildings. It was constructed for Australia's bicentenary in 1988 to house a tropical rainforest which is now thriving, but Rob was able to get a sneak preview inside before it opened and he explains some of the revolutionary features of this impressive building. I was a child of the 1970's and loved the Curiosity Show. Thanks Rob for your book presentation at the Salisbury Library recently.
I'm a regular at the conservatory. Some years ago they stopped using the heating system but it still looks great. As a bonus they made it free to enter.

Thanks very much - yes, I enjoyed the author's talk. The conservatory is a 'must see' for visitors to Adelaide - Rob

I remember when David Attenborough visited the conservatory to promote The Private Life Of Plants TV series. I managed to get his autograph there.

I looked after him for a few days in Adelaide. As nice a man offscreen as he is onscreen. A giant of natural history - Rob

You can see the plants from the road now. I suppose they've had 32 years to grow.

0:31 "within cooee" is an australian expression equivalent to "within near"

I think the day it opened 32 years ago was the last time I went there. I imagine all the trees and plants would be full size now.
