Royal Palace was one of the most under-rated horses of all time... very sad he always seems forgotten in the year of Sir Ivor and Vaguely Noble..

Exactly, and Lester still rates Sir Ivor the best he ever rode, saying he faced better opposition than Nijnsky. I his final race, Royal Palace demolished the field in the KG&QE at Ascot, despite breaking down in the final half-furlong.

Royal Palace was a great horse but as often happens he had to be around in the same time as Sir Ivor. The most overlooked horse was to come a little later as once raced Morston took the Derby.

Piggott always said that the best horse he ever rode was Sir Ivor....despite him having riden greats like Nijinsky and Shergar.

Very unlike the great Vincent O'Brien to run Sir Ivor just a week after his defeat (at 1/3) in the Irish Derby

1967 Guineas & Derby winner, Royal Palace, a seriously underrated Derby winner and despite Nijinsky, Lester Piggott still says that Sir Ivor was the best he ever rode.

@@robertdelacy3434 I agree, sir Ivor was beaten four in a row after winning the Derby, Nijinsky Beat Gyr in the Derby, Blakeney in the King George, Won the triple crown, was desperately unlucky in the Arc when veering to the left, near the line. In the champion Stakes He sweated profusely and was over the top
