- A true testimonial to Honda reliability! In this video I give a full in depth tour of a 1989 Honda Accord Coupe. I take viewers on a close look through the interior and exterior of this car while showing details, over viewing of features, and noting unique styling cues to the vehicle itself. I also show the engine and the details of it, start it up and see how it sounds under acceleration. A thorough tour/review of this car designed to give others a greater overall appreciation of the vehicle.

My dad bought his '88 Accord brand new and I finally inherited it at 220,000 miles. Ran it all the way to 350,000 miles before donating it to a friend in need. He finally got rid of it at 366,000 miles...power steering hose was leaking at that point, but it still had the original engine and transmission in the thing...incredible!
My dad bought a 2001 version of that
This was a great car. No matter how neglected a Honda is, it won't die. Only if you let them overheat or run without oil.
Or let the timing belt break. Almost all of them have interference engines, but if I remember correctly, the A20 in these 3rd gens are non interference.
How does somebody fuck their car up like this?
Problably left it outside and with the window stuck rolled down rain and other shit problably got in it
It's call anger issues, leaving it out in the weather with windows down, kids should do some damage and plus it's a 30 yr old car not 5 yrs old. With some miles on it all how the owner treats it.
my old 1987 4 door Honda had 750k miles when I bought it back in 2007 for $150. yes it ran great just needed new tires and battery. I rolled the odometer over and that lil rice box was still running great. I loved that car
Damn 750 miles and still ran 😯 that's awesome!
@@JesusisKing03 and if I'm getting this right by rolled over the odometer he ticked over 999.999
Such a shame that someone would abuse and neglect such a great car. To this day, nothing beats a Honda.
True dat I work as an auto mechanic and Honda was the one car I barely seen if so it was only for a check up there the most reliable car Toyota obviously extremely reliable as well as Nissan lexus and alot of others but Honda from a auto mechanics opinion is No.1

+Blackops Combat sniper From my experience all im saying is Honda was the one car I rarely seen American muscle are also incredible I agree but come on dude the America muscle may be faster more fun more of an experience than a Honda but in terms of reliability they dont even compare
+Blackops Combat sniper your name says it all kid
+Blackops Combat sniper ever heard of JDM everybody knows are a ton of fun
Can’t go wrong with a Honda!! My 1999 Honda Accord had 320,000miles and was still running!!!! Great cars!
Well the Honda in that video is probably scrapped!
That's bloody sad to see such a handsome car like that trashed. I always thought these were very handsome coupes, very underrated cars.
+Samthebam4044 i don't know why people cant take care of there cars i have a 2000 jeep grand Cherokee 166k on it and it is in nice shape it does have some minor dents on it though has one on the lift gate and one on the side from Walmart shopping cart i don't know what happened to the lift gate it was like that one day after i parked it i don't have the money to fix it i also need to get the driver seat padding replaced but it still drives great ac heat and radio work cleat coat is not pealing off it does leak oil though but it makes it to 5,000 mile oil change only losing half a court the exhaust smells like well exhaust it don't sink or smell rich anything like that just normal no warning lights drives great nice and smooth its been well cared for and maintained it has been in a fender bender though nothing major just a dent in the fender some one hit it in a parking garage and it has since been repaired the paint was matched from the dealer.
+SuperJeremi10 i mean if a car is used every day it's going to get rougher and rougher over the years but this is ridiculous my 1000 dollar beater for work is cleaner than this and people think my 2009 saturn is new it doesn't take that much effort to keep a car maintained and clean
+David Mollard yea but a lot of people don't care for there cars well or don't know how to prevent certain damage or they have kids etc I got my Jeep Grand Cherokee for 2000 and it looks way better then this I love. I have 171 k on it know runs great no did just have to get it towed because the stupid shift interlock sensor failed so even though the car runs I can't shift it from park that just went out Friday but I'm having it fixed right away so far it hasn't needed anything major just normal thing Like a radiator hoses normal wear stuff and oil changes this jeep still has the factory head I heard the ones from this year liked to crack and leak coolant into oil but this one has not suffer that fate I also don't let it over heat either my ac even still works although it's low on freon but I haven't used the Ac much yet.
Looks exactly like a prelude

As a college student I would be honored to drive something in that great of condition...
Me too.
+GASPUMPFILMS im about to be a college student but i would not drive something like that, you know damn well that thing wont be reliable in the winter.
Cingle player Ah, now Im from California, we have Summer, Summer, Spring, then more Summer. So just make sure its got oil, fluids, and tires and you are good.
GASPUMPFILMS oh, forgot about that my state (NJ) gets pretty cold and the cold starts are just horrible. Im looking at a 2003 honda civic lx for my (college car) lol
Cingle player Can't go wrong with those.
Brings back memories of my magnificent 1989 Accord LXi. It was dark red with a beige interior and a slick 5-speed stick. It was a joy to drive. It's a crying shame that people would let such a marvelous car get to this state, but it's to Honda's credit that the car still starts up and rides. Thank you, Kyle!
Was it a Sedan or a Coupe?
"Always depend on your honda"
Shamir Yea, but not like that much 😳
Oh cmon it started better than newer cars around.
Gotta give a thumb up for this car. It still starts up and runs !
This breaks my heart. I had a same year 4 door with only 67000 miles on it, but it was well loved in the past The seats had plush upholstery and you could put your fingers into the carpets, not a bit worn or even beaten down I loved the flip up headlights, passing all the Fords and Chrysler’s with broken flip ups stuck in the open position. They are still an amazing design, I wish I had kept it, would probably still be going strong. Funny that the two cleanest parts of this car look to the the ash try and glove box
1989 was the last year of the pop-up headlights
Seen mazda mx5s newer than 1989 with pop ups

Probably they didn’t do regular maintenance to it and neglect it for too long! Notice how when he shift it had a lot of trouble shifting back and forward! Probably transmission needs to be rebuild or repaired!
I wonder if this Accord ever got restored since recording this?
probably in the junkyard
@@shaanp_2260 If it was in too bad condition then yeah it would've been junked. Especially now, that car is old as dirt and by its condition and mileage it probably won't be worth much. If the cost of repairs outweighs the worth of the car then what's the point, you mine as well junk the thing. It's a nice car though. Sad to see it end up like this.

Also I'm pissed
5 things to do 1)battery 2)tune up 3)paint 4)interior 5)fix any and all minor problems I own a 89 SEi and when I got my 96 my dad ran my 89 to the ground and I kept that thing well maintained .I wanna do stuff to that car now
I don't know why but it just fascinates me to see an old car running after a little struggle. You think it's dead and just can't do anything, then it starts!
I guarantee that the mileage on this car has been rolled back. Probably has close to 350k...
+CWINDOWSsystem32 either that or the whole cluster stopped working 100k ago lol
+CWINDOWSsystem32 and you are absolutly right, if you take a look at it, you'll see that the rpm gauge doenst work, and that is what counts the mileage on this car (a wire plugged into gearbox, that also gives your rpm)
sorry for bad english
+yalnizful Odometer worked - it was reading 249764.2 at the start of the video, and after he does a lap of the dealership around 11:30 at the end it's ticked over another tenth of a mile. I suspect the cluster was dead due to an electrics issue, since the temperature gauge never came up off the bottom and none of the gear position lights were lit up when it was in gear.
I Guarantee your wrong
Looks like it has 500,000 miles. This car probably made into the material they use to make pop cans. Don't see much life left in her. Much less financially feasible. However, anyone who knows these cars quite well can make a good Restoration project out of this !
My buddy still drives the same car as this one. He is closing in on 300,000 miles. Gotta love those old Hondas.
Wow that car was built amazing, still shifts and drives even after taking a hot supper for most of it's life
I bet you those 80s factory Honda hubcaps would worth something
YES! i thought it was amazing that a 10 year old car, almost 11, ran 10x better than a 2009 lmao. i've had it for a month and i still love it.

This video made me want this car. Excluding how rotten the overall car is in this video. I want a mint one.
Looks like a good fixer-upper, just an interior makeover and it would be an awesome example of how reliable Honda is.
it's a junker
The transmission is probably going to need to be replaced since it won't shift to good
That's just a sensor from the brake pedal, $10 job and it's like new. I can tell you from the vid tho it would have needed electrical work, valve adjustment, and gaskets. Poor thing could have lasted another 200k if it was better cared for.
Needs a complete restoration

Engine failed probably, the previous owner probably never did the timing belt and the pistons smacked the valves!
@@Jacob-sq6dx I don't think the A20 is an interference engine. I'd be more concerned about the automatic transmission because it probably wasn't serviced. The 3rd gen autos seem solid, but like the rest of Honda's automatic transmissions, they don't tolerate dirty fluid very well because it clogs the non serviceable internal filter, which then staves the pump and kills the transmission.
@@averyalexander2303 I thought all Honda have interference engines
those were very good cars back in the day

I love Honda's they are by far my favourite kind of car and seeing this it just makes me even happier!
Actually, my '89 Cherokee is running pretty nicely. Though, I suspect it's because it has the 4 Liter Straight-6 engine, which are known to last to atleast 300K. It's paint is pretty much shot, but the interior is in great shape, the tranny still shifts nicely and the Transfer case is still in like-new condition. My mom also has a '91 Accord Sedan with almost 230K on it and it still runs like a dream.
This is a very nice overview of what is, unfortunately, a terribly maintained specimen of the third generation coupe. Always a great car, in my opinion. Thanks for sharing it!
Even after all that car has been through, it'll still get you where you need to go :D this is why I have a Honda Accord

To get this car back in it's place, all you have to do is give it a clean, renovate the interior and maybe repaint the exterior. This shows how reliable Honda really is.
And rebuild the engine.

Thing is. It was abused. I calculated well over 22,000 miles a year on this baby. But, if taken care of, a Honda like this would have lasted 300,000 plus miles. All depends on the owner and maintenance.
@@jopisano67 what I really hate are people in this comment section that are bashing the car for looking the way it does but it's the prick head that was the last owner that's responsible for it's terrible shape and just barely running
