- It’s an issue many of us will face when it comes to our cars, especially older models - foggy headlights.
It not only ruins the look of the car, but it’s dangerous, affecting visibility for drivers like Angela Bell-Deems when the headlights are in use.

I noticed that when I spray DEET onto my hands, and then I push the plastic handle of my lawn mower, the plastic seems to 'dissolve' once the bug spray coating hits it. So yeah, DEET dissolves plastic. If you use it on headlights you won't get a crystal-clear headlight like you would if you were to use a polishing product called 'PlastX' on a cloth, and rubbing that cloth over the plastic for the next 5 minutes, but it would make the headlights a lot better.
The bug spray melts the plastic lens of the headlight. This is a temporary fix. Toothpaste and baking soda will lightly remove the oxidation.
Nice to know. Thanks.
It messed around and make your tires shinny too!
No... This is terrible advice. Its not a permanent fix, when the oils wear off it will fade again, minus the small amount of oxidation it wore off. Here is what you do.
Tape off, wet sand the headlight with 800 grit sandpaper till it "feels" smooth, you can then go to 1200 then clean it well... And spray with 2k spray paint clear (Spraymax) or you can use 1k UV clear too but it wont last as long.
Or, alternatively...
Polish, polishing isnt as good if the headlight is very oxidized and very old... 10-12yrs max for polishing imho... Anything odler sand it.
Get a drill or actual polisher (works best) polishing pads etc. (They sell the kits) and polish the headlights.
There are also headlight kits that have drill attachments with high grit sanding disks, you sand, then use a "wipe" that comes with it that is basically a resin wipe.
The point is, once the surface is uneven... It loses its ability to carry light through, once the surface is even again... It will be clear again. Sanding leaves micro scratches that makes the headlights uniform but very foggy and defuses all light going through the lens, once you spray the clear on it... The paint sits inside of the scratches and levels the whole lens to be even again and it becomes crystal clear again...
Oils and household "hacks" do work... Bc the oil sits in the pits and valley's of oxidation, and soak into the thicker oxidation to make it all more uniform... Until the oil is gone. It does the same thing the paint does but the paint will dry and stay for a few years.
If applicable you can also buy new headlights if they are reasonably priced. Some aren't much, some are over a thousand dollars.
Spray the deet on your cleaning cloth then wipe down the lens .
Yes spray bug spray on your headlights... So do I sue News 6 or someone else?
Does not last even one month . lenses are not clear like professionally restoration.
Interesting
Please wear gloves
Poor eagles are done for now. What a mistake this is
Big reveal: Pulls tape off like we couldn't already see the difference.
"Women" LOL
Not only that, but did you notice that the 25%/98.11% that was prompted on screen was absolutely reverse of what she said? Yeah, if you give two women an assignment, something's getting messed up! LOL
