The REAL History Of Christopher Columbus

  • Monday, October 12th is Columbus Day, which we have celebrated in this country since the eighteenth century… and that’s probably long enough. When you find out the actual facts of what Columbus did when he got to America, you’ll find one of the darkest chapters in American history. Cenk Uygur and John Iadarola (Think Tank), hosts of the The Young Turks, break it down. Tell us what you think in the comment section below.
"Second, Columbus wasn't a hero. When he set foot on that sandy beach in the Bahamas on October 12, 1492, Columbus discovered that the islands were inhabited by friendly, peaceful people called the Lucayans, Taínos and Arawaks. Writing in his diary, Columbus said they were a handsome, smart and kind people. He noted that the gentle Arawaks were remarkable for their hospitality. "They offered to share with anyone and when you ask for something, they never say no," he said. The Arawaks had no weapons; their society had neither criminals, prisons nor prisoners. They were so kind-hearted that Columbus noted in his diary that on the day the Santa Maria was shipwrecked, the Arawaks labored for hours to save his crew and cargo. The native people were so honest that not one thing was missing.
Columbus was so impressed with the hard work of these gentle islanders, that he immediately seized their land for Spain and enslaved them to work in his brutal gold mines. Within only two years, 125,000 (half of the population) of the original natives on the island were dead.”*

So they live their lives with the lies told to them since first grade. I honestly feel that the books should have been updated a long time ago. there are way more facts learned now about our history that strongly contradict what is being taught to the children. I don't understand why they are still teaching them the lies. Guess it is true that they are raising the kids to be workers and not thinkers.

***** It doesn't sound like you know much about Muslims or Islam. You are trying to paint a pretty broad picture buddy. My advice to you is to at least understand what it is you are talking about before you form an opinion. I'm sure you don't want to come across like this. IT's like any other religion. There is a fringe. Christianity is no exception. People do a lot of pretty reprehensible things in the name of Christianity too. However not all Christians have the same belief system for Christianity. IT is the same for the Muslim faith.

    • @freakboy40

***** Argument? You are the one that is arguing and asking if I am stupid. I don't argue. I don't need to. I didn't say I am superior to anyone. I just know for a fact you don't have an understanding of what you are talking about or what you are reading. Do you think all Christians are accepting of Homosexuals? I never said I was a genius. I have a full understanding of the topic. I don't need homework assignments. I know my shit. What you are talking about really doesn't have any merit and neither do your sources. Which explains to some level why you don't. Just because it is on the internet, that doesn't make it true. It makes it what you wish to believe. You don't have a basic understanding of what religion is. The very principle of religion is to restrict what is viewed as not conforming. That is every religion. You think Christianity doesn't have restrictive religious laws? You don't think Christian's owned slaves and still do? There are too many to name. It's a religion and we aren't in position here to say one is better or worst than the other. It is a way of life that is literally many thousands of years old. Listen, I am just being honest with you. You don't know the topic...and really it sounds like you don't want to know.

Christopher Columbus conducted a mass rape, murder and enslavement. He enslaved us brutally raped tourtured , massacred and committed many brutal atrocities towards us. White men raped and took many women as their slaves and raped them it's in our dna now. Its part of our history and our forever dna. Most latinos today especially from Puerto Rico and Cuba are the result of the enslavement of us by White men Spaniards Italians and Portuguese raping the brown women. Go to Spain and italy they are white and blonde, red haired and brown haired white people they are a completely different culture. They colinized us. They are the reason why latin people speak spanish today in latin america. I can't Imagine what these women had to go through i cant imagine being raped by a white spanish italian rapist. Dna studies show puerto ricans have alot of european and the island has one of highest white european ancestry in the caribbean and it shows we where raped the hardest in puerto rico and hispanola. He conducted massacre, killings, executions and terrorized the island. He is great to white people but Columbus was really bad. But yeah lets celebrate him. He described them as peaceful a and handsome and gave them everything they want that's why he took advantage of them and enslaved them. Many latinos in Puerto rico and cuba and latin america today are half breeds due to the rape and enslavement in the colonial period that's how our history is. White masters often raped enslaved and made the natives look for gold.

Ten years ago, my son was attending a Christian school. I remember I was educating my son about the atrocities committed by Christopher Columbus and his men on the natives. A few months later, his teacher was lecturing about Christopher Columbus and my son raised his arm and said that in 1493, Columbus returned to what is now Hispaniola and enslaved the whole area. His teacher told my son to hush. My son told me about this incident upon returning from school. Several days later, I spoke to his teacher after class was over. We got into a heated discussion about Columbus. The teacher said that Christopher Columbus was a devoted Christian. I said that is correct but he built more gallows than crosses there. I said Columbus had planned to slave the whole area the first day he set foot in Hispaniola. The teacher said how did you know that. I said it was documented in Columbus' diary. The teacher quickly responded that diary can not wrong. I knew then, that it was time to remove my son from that school which was built on propaganda. I often thought why are we celebrating Christopher Columbus birthday which I call it slave traders day. It is sad really sad that Americans just cannot read the facts.

Christopher Colombus didn't know where the hell he was, nor what those people where and slaving another population was the most common thing in those days, it tells nothing really significant about Colombus, other thhan he was just like anyone else was at the time. The slave trade did not start with Colombus, so you are either ignorant or very manipulative.

People celebrate Genghis Khan who exterminated and raped so many people that a good 3% of the world's population is related to him to this day. Is anyone who likes Genghis Khan a bad person? Instead of usually sailing eastward across the Mediterranean, he headed west because he strongly believe the world was spherical. Even on his death-bed Columbus was convinced he had got to India when he really didn't. This is why we still mistakable refer to these natives as Indians, when in reality they're Mongoloid descendants that cross Beringia around 12-15 thousand years ago.

I think this is an excellent, concise expose on Columbus that is "overshadowed" by any reference to Isis because of it's own push back and controversy in this country...I wish there was no mention of it. The comparison in my opinion was not needed in the title...I wold let the host's button up their comments with it as they do...

now that I think about it, not all Tino Indian were killed off because there are some Dominicans and Haitians that when they do their ancestry testing they have Taino Indian blood running through their veins, so that makes me wonder maybe a little bit of them did survive and kept well-hidden from those evil bastards.

+Filmon Tewolde I can see where you get that from because when you read world history, you find out that Africans been traveling around the world for quite a long long time centuries on at that.

One thing that this video left out was the African experience in this country.African explorers were responsible for Columbus making it safely to the western hemisphere.

Columbus and ISIS aren't really comparable, considering that Columbus lived in the 1400's, and ISIS exists in 2015. People should know better in this day and age. That being said, Columbus was a monster

That shouldn't matter horrible is horrible. You shouldn't take 2 terrible acts put it up to each other and weigh which one is slightly less horrible than the other there both terrible. And you saying that because we live in 2017 we should know better than them giving the thought process that because they lives such a long time ago there is a lack of common sense and conginitive self responsibility. Like they didn't know murder and rape and genocide us wrong. They just didn't care look at ISIS they know what they are doing is wrong deep down they don't care or there brain washed themselves to see what their doing as holy and right. disgrace honestly.

How do you know he wrote the journal? How do you know if the journal is real? And I am not trying to say he discovered anything, just saying how do we trust anything we are told by others, especially on tv or internet??
