    We have been on many different cruise company ships over the past fifteen years including Cunard, Viking, P&O, Costa and Fred Olsen. For the last two years we have been on six cruises all with Fred Olsen, because we prefer the quietness of the smaller ships and will continue to use Fred Olsen in the future. The staff are the most friendliness of all the ships we have been on and although they may not have the greatest choice of restaurants as the larger cruise company ships, the choice and quality of the food is second to none. The self service facilities have as good a choice of dishes as any other if not more and you don't have to spend time queuing like the larger ships, plus a table is found for you before you choose your food. Fred Olsen also include a drinks package on all their cruises for £15 per person per night on cruises of 4 night and over, which is excellent value for money.
    Ok, a lot of people think that Fred Olsen is aimed at the older generation, which is not true, it's just that older people prefer smaller ships without having all the glamour of the larger cruise ships, but as far as food is concerned, in my opinion, Fred Olsen is certainly in the top five as far as we are concerned and we both love good food.

      Plus the fact that the smaller ships can get into ports the larger ships can't, I've been in ports no-one has ever heard of on the larger cruise lines, delighted to have been seen some of these remote places. I must say the last few times I've been on Olsen's cruise ship their menu has greatly improved, nice wee ships, and extremely pleasant staff.

      Hi Pascale. Thanks for watching the video. Approximately 6 months ago both Joe and I (new video guys at Planet Cruise) joined the company. This was one of the things we changed, as you're not the first person the comment this. All the Planet Cruise Weekly's released this year should only have the banner when we show the presenters. This is so you can see the pictures of the places the guys are talking about

    For the average family vacation cost cruise lines like Carnival, Norwegian, MSC, Celebrity, Princess and Royal Caribbean. I found Royal Caribbean's food experience to be the best. Including their specialty restaurants. The menu is varied, the portions are awesome. You may order as many and as much as you'd like without extra costs. No hidden costs. The buffet is pretty average but the main dining, the poolside grills, Park Cafe, Hot Dog House, Health Food Cafe, the 24 hour venues like pizza and snacks and room service is endless and delicious. The specialty steak house of Chops is wonderful and affordable. Then there's Izumi Tappanyaki and Sushi bar and Jamie's or Giovanni's Italian and Wunderland, Johnny Rockets, Starbucks and more are SUPER and surprisingly inexpensive. Royal Caribbean all the way!!!

      We recently went on the Independence of the Seas after it's refit. Completely blew us away! It is an amazing line for the whole family. Glenn took his whole family and says, "This ship has been one of my favourites but, definitely the best I've been on with my family. We went to the Izumi Tappanyaki and both myself, my wife and child had a incredible time, we'd recommend it to anybody who loves good food and a good time away with your family."

    I prefer Carnival Cruise because it's laid back, fun and not uppity. My husband and I went on 2 luxury cruises and it was not for us. The people were so stuck up and boring. We live a great life and take 2 to 3 vacations a year and when we are on vacation we like to let loose and have fun.

    This presented some interesting insights. I agree completely with the placement of Oceania. We sailed on a 40-day cruise on the Regatta. The variety and quality of the food never disappointed. I disagree with the inclusion of Crystal on this list. We found their service sloppy. It was particularly distressing that the wait-staff could not answer questions about the food. Some dishes were exceptional, but others were inedible. I don't make a habit of sending food back. Two entrees were so bad, they were returned to the kitchen. After 14 days on the Symphony, the menus became repetitive. I am pleased you recognized Celebrity. Their food is surprisingly good.

    I can't believe Regent and Silver Seas cruise lines were not included in the top 5 list of cruise lines for their quality of food. Carnival should not be included. That cruise line is for the loud, beer drinking, Walmart crowd that just prefer cheap and quantity vs gourmet & quality food. Other great cruise lines with good food and service include Oceania and Celebrity.

      I used to love cruising, but the food has probably ended that. I did a Norwegian cruise earlier this year and it was exhausting to sort through the hundreds of food options to find something I could eat as a vegan. Everything marked vegetarian typically had eggs, milk, or cheese, which are worse for me than meat. After trying to be really careful and ask questions, I still ended up with a nasty outbreak of keratosis pilaris late in the week because I'd been exposed to too much dairy. It just wasn't worth it.
      I did an all vegan cruise last fall to Norway and had a wonderful time and the food was fantastic. But those are very limited opportunities.

      Planet Cruise Well I’m pretty new to cruising, and most of my experiences have been with Royal Caribbean. I selected Oasis as my first cruise, and it did not disappoint. Overall, the interaction with the staff, service, entertainment, food, ship environment and accommodations were all very good on that cruise, though I had nothing to compare them to. I later went on smaller class ships and found service and staff interaction to be highest and food was still third. On Norwegian, the food quality and management and free drink packages were highest rated by me( cabin accommodations, staff, ship environment, and service came in closer to last. But entertainment and activities were last for me. I wasn’t totally bored but I wasn’t dazzled. It’s a good cruise for drinking eating and reading a book you brought or making up your own plans for the cruise. I plan to cruise Disney, Princess, Viking and Carnival, (if it’s a group thing like a reunion). So I won’t have a complete picture until then.

    I've never sailed aboard a "true cruise ship." I travel to the UK two or three times a year and, as I don't like to fly, I take the steamship which today is limited to the Queen Mary 2. I am curious; is there any difference between the (huge) Britannia restaurant and the Queen's Grill? I have always found the Queen's Grill to be excellent. I always book a Queen's Grill accommodation and I have never eaten in the Britannia restaurant, although I would like to. It is one of the most spectacular contemporary public rooms I have ever seen (by photo in comparison to other ships).

    • @planetcruise
      @planetcruise  Před 5 lety

      Hi Jynx 😀 We're in the making of a video based on something like this so keep your eyes out.
      The main difference is the choice and options of food. With Britannia it is more of an exclusive space/ dining room for Britannia guest but, with Princess and Queen's Grills it's more the private space and that you can choose to eat pretty much anything. You have a lot more options in terms of what cuisine you're going to eat in these

    If you're a vegetarian, most cruises don't have much variety when it comes to food. Cruises like Celebrity and Carnival give you one appetizer and one entree, so you have to either eat what they give you or go hungry and their vegetarian meals aren't very appealing. Cunard is the only line I've seen so far where they put as much effort into making a pleasant dining experience for vegetarians as they do for everyone else. I was very impressed with their menus.

    • @planetcruise
      @planetcruise  Před 6 lety

      I think it all depends on which line you choose. We recently travelled with Norwegian Cruise Lines and had a few Vegetarian's with us. They were very accommodating. These were there favourite meals:
      Portobello mushrooms, goat’s cheese and red bell peppers, served with sweet potato beurre blanc - Le Bistro
      Vegetable pad thai with egg, tofu, green peppers, and chilli - Teppanyaki
      Butternut squash salad with pumpkin seed vinaigrette - main dining room and buffet.
      One of the things to do is to mention it when you book/ embark. There's a lot of cruise staff that will be vegetarian and even Vegan and usually they point you in the right direction :)

      As much as we love Royal Caribbean food sadly we only had time to fit in five. They are definitely a close runner up! There are just too many fantastic options for food at sea.

    Great report, and I have been on ships of Oceania and Viking but sorry IMHO the far best food I had on a ship was on MS Europe and MS Europe 2. Maybee not the typical ships for the english speaking community, but simply good.

    Never been on a cruise. What about Princess Star...???

    • @planetcruise
      @planetcruise  Před 6 lety

      Hi Patrick, Star Princess is an amazing ship. It goes to a lot of areas in Alaska and South America. For us we really like the aspects of seeing the stars late at night (pun in the name haha). There's nothing like seeing the stars when you are away from the city light pollution and at sea. Watching movies under the stars on this ship is beautiful, it's definitely a ship that's perfect for your first time. We have more information here if you'd like: www.planetcruise.com/en/star-princess

      Asian fusion is becoming really really popular that the moment. If you like sushi and Japanese look at a few of the new Norwegian Cruise Lines and Royal Caribbean. Glenn recently had a family holiday on the Symphony of the Seas and said it was amazing!!! 😉

      Have you been on Royal Caribbean? What was the best thing about their food that you liked?

      Planet Cruise i have been on
      Empress
      Majesty
      Enchantment
      Serenade
      Freedom
      Independence
      Out of all those ships, the Freedom ships, Empress and Serenade are my favorite.
      Empress does a unique brunch in their mdr that no other ship does, you can get freshly made crapes and waffles with your lunch items.
      Some of my favorite specialties is Giovanie's Table and Izumi.
      For MDR offerings, my favorites include escargots, tiger shrimp, and Barramundi, some of the best fish I have had anywhere.
      I do not know how Coco Cay and Labbodee compare to CCL and NCL's private destinations, but the bbq made there has never been a disappointment.
      I am a light breakfast eater, so a simple omlet and im happy.
      I have had one experience on a Carnival ship on their Sensation, and it was not a good experience. Only highlight was the Foreigner concert on that trip.
