- Dennis Skinner received cheers from some Opposition MPs as he shouted "Hands off the BBC" in the Commons. The Beast Of Bolsover's annual quip at Black Rod is almost as much part of the
pomp and circumstance as the Queen's procession to Parliament, although he opted to stay silent last year in a break from State Opening tradition.

Over the years, whenever the Queen (now King) summons the MP's, or goes to close Parliament, they re-enact the event. And the dent is ever present and ever growing.

The house of peers/lords were trying to privatise the BBC, by cutting it's state funding. Since the black rod is a Lord, Dennis Skinner was telling him, as a Lord, to leave the BBC the way it is.
