    Dont charge hunters to hunt the land, it seems like the ones leasing land are the ones most concerned about the antlers... tell them you can hunt here but you're going to shoot does... not just horn hunting... if they dont then boot them and let the next party hunt... its not as easy as you think to hunt. Once they get a little hunting pressure alot of the deer go nocturnal and only move after dark, around here, in Michigan at least...
    What happened to the miracle cure you had last year for deer, the pellet your spread on??

    I planted 20 acres of iron clay peas to make haylage. Deer destroyed . Went back in July 3 with brown top millet. Hopefully we get some rain. Total loss of a cutting. U cant recoup that.

    You are describing trophy hunters, not meat hunters. We hunt to fill the freezer. I took 6 deer last year and im actually almost out of venison already, we eat it almost every day. We process our own too.

    Deer don't like walking through pumpkin patches (theories: predators can hide, itchy spikes, tripping hazard, odors) So plant pumpkin or winter squash along the field edge. Woodchucks will eat beans and pumpkins don't frighten them, so if you have a herd of those in the woods the pumpkins won't slow them down. Marigolds and their odor can be deer repellent too. Order some seed and do some experimenting, you won't care if you have green pumpkins this fall if they protect the beans, a few weeks the pumpkins/squash should be putting out runners and making a barrier.

    One deer can eat about .4 acres of beans each season. On average, a herd of 50 deer could cost a farmer $13-14 thousand in lost revenues. It’s not a trivial problem and the cost is not appropriately allocated through current hunting practices and regulations.

  • @MOzarkMike
    @MOzarkMike Před 18 dny +2

    Our conservation commission allows farmers to remove nuisance deer to control crop damage. The carcasses go to food pantries to feed the hungry. Ammo is cheaper than beans .

I know some that get 70 per year or more. I hunt to fill my freezer, I don't pay for processing and I also have a wall full of nice Anters from 50 yrs of hunting. 😅

I have received zero deer to date but have at least 6 pictures on my phone of trophy bucks people shot.

    Is it possible to live trap the deer in pens and relocate them to some place else that is short of deer (like the bears are trapped and moved)(Used nets & Hughes 500s to capture live deer in NZ for deer farms, YT vid -title "Helicopter Operations - Deer Recovery / Live Capture - New Zealand". In the predominately hay making days, OLF described the little fawn and the deer family as his secret army? Is it going to take an Apache helicopter or two to control the secret army now? The 'Living the dream Ag' youtube channel was putting up quite long single strand electric fences to keep the deer back from tree encircled bean fields a few weeks back.

    In my part of the world east kansas some farmers will sponsor deer drives, about 30-50 people will get together with running dogs greyhounds and walker coonhound, four wheelers and such and start on one end of the county and chase deer to the other end and kill 200-500 animals. only about 5pct of the animals are recovered the rest is for the scavengers, I have attended one of these events and how no one gets run over or shot is beyond me, then avoiding the game wardens who want to put everyone in jail. yet after all that there is no deer shortage this place is infested with them.

    We have the same problem. I'm surrounded by state land that's hunted all season. There were 40 head on a 13 acre hay/oats field the other evening. Frankly when I used to hunt I'd take the does. They tasted better. Guess we'll have to wait for the wolves to move down from the U.P.

I dont go out every year because I dont need to the feed every year just when things are bad enough I go hunting. THis is the way I teach my 3 kids on how to live off the land. BUT WOW MR farmer, that complains about not making money and the cost of everything he needs to plant and fix his machines (which I love watching you fix your machines) then goes on a vacation oversea's and complain he has no money when he gets back WOW.
