    Thank you for this great video. It helps me to possibly drive these highways later.

    I love your camper. It looks so old-school definitely my style that is a rough road there. I don’t know if I would do that one, but I will do the rest of the Alaska highways happy trails.

    My wife and I made the trip from Ontario to Tok this summer as well. We may have crossed paths. It was the amazing road trip in my life I can’t wait till we do it again.

    I did this myself in the 80's and dont remember any paved road at all.
    I was the only one on the road. And had the ferry to myself.

    I'm a Canadian citizen who if I could Dawson City would be the place to die, as it was always my dream to live there. BTW, I am used to cold weather living my whole life in northeastern Ontario about 200 miles south of James Bay/Hudson Bay....An awesome video, honestly the best that I ever watched on You Tube...Thanks Guys!

      Population gets pretty small in the winter there when the river freezes up and the top of the world highway closes down. Probably feels pretty remote in the winter.

      About a half day or more depending on how much you stop. Easily doable in the summertime with the long days. Be mindful of the time zone and hours that the border is open, it is not 24 hrs a day and there may be a timezone change involved if you are cutting it close.

    Would you advise a c class to drive on the gravel parts?

    • @ThisOldBus
      @ThisOldBus  Před rokem +1

      Depends on the age and condition of the RV. Lots of people take RV’s on this road all the way up to full size pushers. Do you carry a spare and have the ability to change it? There are no services. No cell service. You are on your own so you need to be self sufficient. We carry lots of tools and do lots of preventative maintenance on our rigs.

      Been in Yukon almost 50 years. The winter can be cold but always long. I find gravel roads are often prefered and less damaging than the broken pavement through permafrost areas. Nothing like hitting 2 foot deep holes in pavement for breaking something. Gravel potholes are easily fixed by simply grading.
      Never understood the fear of gravel roads, just slow down. Give lots of space when passing before moving back into your lane and space out if dusty

    What do these old people do when their motorhomes break down on the road in the middle of no where on the ALCAN Highway???? No phone service....no civilization nearby..... what do they do????

    • @ThisOldBus
      @ThisOldBus  Před rokem

      People help each other out. You see someone broke down on the road, you stop and see if they need a hand or a ride into town. The road is frequently traveled during the summer so you won’t wait too long. You will probably have to fix it yourself though, and if you don’t have a toad you’ll be dependent on others to run for parts and tools.
