    People need to stop bashing Lars Nootbar just because he played on the Japanese team. He's half Japanese and American. You can't be bitter over the results... Cause the Japanese team was just crazy good this time. It was a win for the sport of baseball. A great game.

      imo it was good for the sport of baseball to have Lars play on the Japanese team, he was able to speak about the different perspectives between the Japanese and American teams in his interviews and bring more fans into the strategies involved.

      ラーズ・ヌートバーの母親は「上2人は日本で出産したが、上2人の子供を連れて大きなお腹を抱えて帰国するのは困難だったので、諦めてアメリカで出産したのでとても大変だった」と語っていました。
      実はWBC前にNPBがMLBに調査依頼した結果、50人程の日系の選手が居た事が判明していました。
      しかし、アジア系以外との混血選手の多くは、外見からは日本人のDNAが彼らに存在しているとは思えない程のアメリカ人の容姿になっている人が殆どなのが判明しています。
      それはおそらく、唯一アジアでは日本人だけが他のアジア人とは大きくかけ離れた世界では6%しか居ないと言う特殊なDNAを持っている事が関係しているのかも知れません。
      ラーズ・ヌートバー選手も(お母様が日本人なのに)分かりにくい選手のその1人でした。
      彼の母親が国籍を変えずに日本国籍のままだった事が助けとなりました。
      日本チームを助けて頂いたラーズ・ヌートバー選手とお母様に感謝致しています。

      間違いなくそれがデカい。
      ヌートバーはアメリカのことを熟知してるし言語もわかるからとにかく敵チームの情報やスタジアムの情報、
      その他試合以外に関することでもいろんな情報を知っていて間違いなく日本側にメリットがある。
      スパイとまでは行かないが日本側に間違いなく有益な人材だった。

    Kinda noticed here that Ohtani is tall and has the biggest build in this shot. When Lars was a QB in high school, that makes Shohei a Tight End.

      Yep Ohtani is 6'4" so not the biggest man in MLB but he's up there. Also a big, sturdy guy. Not a string bean. Even other big players have said how huge he is. I forget which one said the words but they made me chuckle: "Shohei is a very large human." 🤣🤣🤣

    Heightwise, Ippei is like Matt Damon to Ohtani's Ben Affleck. When you see him next to Ohtani, you think he's short, but he's actually pretty tall.

      I've noticed that too. By American standards I'd say Ippei is like "average tall." But pretty much everyone looks short standing next to 6'4" Ohtani because that's quite taller than average, and he's very broad shouldered too, so he appears even larger I think. I'm barely 5 ft, imagine all the stuff that man could reach for me on high shelves!! hahaha My ex hubs was 6'1" and the runt of his fam, w/a bro 6'4", a dad 6'3" and a sis 6'. He didn't like it! Worked fine for me tho. lol 😋 God bless tall men, esp in the grocery store aisle. I always need help! 😄😉 (PS Short men are cute too.)

    They came to play and their fans showed their support. We had home field advantage and came up short. Watch their games on their home field those fans we’re chanting. You couldn’t tell this was the championship game you could barely hear any USA chants. We need to get louder and support our players that made it to the finals. We’ll get em next time.

      According to some news reports Ippei also apparently collects players statistical data. He must had helped Shohei collect all those statistical files that Shohei studied to improve his pitcing and batting on the first few years in MLB

      @@pial3270 According to an NHK Japan documentary, Shohei never used to "study" the stats of the players until a few years ago. He's got thick binders full of players stats that Ippei carries around. Reportedly, Shohei's dad is real proud of him considering he was pretty bad as a kid in regards to his pitching, as he was always worried he'd hit one of the other kids by accident. His father admitted his wife (Shohei's mom) doesn't watch when he pitches to this day, so it's incredible now how far he's come.

      Ippei is really good. Shohei speaks in a very Japanese way (almost excessively polite with indirect expressions - suitable for Japanese audience) and Ippei does not need 3 seconds to pick up the core information from Shohei's words and compose a whole new sentence that sounds more natural to the US audience. Not easy to do with that speed...!

    個人的な感覚で言いますが、ヌートバーの場合は、実力は十二分にある。ただ、環境にちょっと恵まれてなかった。故に実力を発揮する場がなかった。コロナも1つ。栗山さんじゃなかったら、彼の手を引っ張って上げられなかったかもしれない。大谷選手の場合は、環境も良し周りの人間関係も良し。でも二刀流を良しとしない人が多かった。それをOKだよ!と受け入れてくれる環境と周りの人達に恵まれたのが良かったですよね。

      In wbc, you can choose the nationality of your parents to compete even if your own nationality is different. In Lars, his mother is Japanese and has Japanese nationality. He has wanted to play for Japan since he was a child because of his acquaintances and contacts in the Japanese baseball world. He loves the U.S. as much as he loves Japan.

      He can speak English with other players (Like Noot) just fine. In fact he's super talkative and friendly. Its only during the interviews that he uses an interpreter, probably because he's self-conscious and he wants to be precise.

American players playing in Japan have never spoken Japanese fluently enough to answer interviews, even those who had played longer than five years. Besides, Americans come to Japan and complain that Japanese don't speak English. You don't hear Japanese people complaining that Americans don't speak Japanese in America, do you? No offense, but I hope you understand how funny your statement was.

If you are a big star (not a JAG) then after 3 or 4 yrs you should have been taking speaking lessons and should be able to speak for yourself. So my statement isnt funny its practical and respectful of the culture you work in for 9 months out of the yr.

      When you're a pre-school child or so, 1-5 years is usually good enough to learn a foreign language if you're living there. The younger the better, but grown-ups take much more time, especially if they haven't studied its intensely beforehand (like a language student) . Ohtani is a specialist in baseball, it's rather ridiculous that you think he would be able to speak English fluently in 5 or so years. He does seem to understand much of what is being said, though. Give him another couple of years, it'll come.

    As a diehard St. Louis Cardinals, fan and a proud American, it saddens me to see American born baseball players play for other countries. What a disgrace for the home country of the United States of America. I have no respect for these players and shame on the other countries who utilize American born talent for their teams. Lars should go live in Japan since he loves it so much and can brag about a championship he has against his home country of the U.S.A.
