Ahhh yes! The golden years. When everything seemed possible. I bought this instrumental soundtrack when I was 15 and listened to it all the time. I used to go walking to this on my walkman. I loved its subtle way of capturing and enhancing each moment of the film. Grateful for artists in all their forms. They make life worth living.

Thomas Newman is a god. The way he encapsulates that 80's optimism and feeling in music is so magical
You may be very be correct about Newman, but he IS NOT a god...Notice the lower case g...There are NO multiple gods..There is only one true God, Almighty God, creator of heaven and earth, of all that is seen and unseen !! New York City by Day has stuck in my head since I saw the movie the first time...about 30 years ago. I liked the rest of the score, too, but didn't remember it note for note.

Thomas Newman did this and The Man With One Red Shoe the same year. Amazing and iconic soundtracks. I especially love the part where Madonna is at the pool. I wish it was a complete song with lyrics!

this is so '80s New York to me. I finally found a vinyl copy after looking for 30 years in pristine condition. only got it for 5 bucks because it's a double soundtrack with Seidelman's "Making Mr. Right" movie and the second hand store probably just checked that side of the sleeve. you only get one of those things once a year if you're lucky

Great soundtrack for an all time fave movie of mine catches the mood and feel of the time and place so well.
This soundtrack is timeless.. I recently visited New York for the very first time and I kept imagining how it must of felt for M at the time, a young naive girl with about £80 ( I’m guessing) in her purse.. she was so tough..gotta hand it to her, it was a different place then, she’s amazing, I walked around the lower east side at night and it was quite an eye opener, love this music though ..it takes me back to the film and how I was in awe of her and a life so far away from the UK. Thanks for uploading 👍🏻

Agreed! I've never heard a score more fitting and memorable than this one. I grew up watching the movie, mostly because I was a fan of Madonna, but there was always something more about it that I loved. Years later, I realized it was the incredible score, stuck in my head forever.

Sadly the version of New York City By Day is not the version used in the film which I think is superior to how it sounds on the CD. Also Rain is completely different in the film too and I wished the film version was on here. Other than that any Thomas Newman music in print is welcome. I bought this CD like 15 years ago and its still in my itunes rotation.

The scene where Dez and Roberta are both up in the middle of the night. It's after they have that awkward kiss on the roof. This piece of music plays again later in the film after they have sex and Roberta tells Dez who she really is. It's a great piece but I think even read somewhere that Newman himself said it was lost.
