Star Wars: The Last Jedi, what a truly incredible trainwreck. Rian Johnson's complete inability to craft anything even resembling meaningful (or coherent) plotline is truly remarkable to behold. Six months out from this farce, let's take a closer look at everything that went wrong.

The purple hair lady killed more Rebels than Darth Vader.
Lol
True.....now I think back to collegehumors Troopers🤦♂️
And thats a fact
Rose was worse. She shocked who she thought" was a hero to the resistance" a few seconds before she shocked him. She also (I think) killed Finn for no reason. She sucks.
They were white males anyways
The worst part was when Princess Leia floated right back into the ship like fricking Mary poppins
Yes, that's bad, but the casino horses was worse
I would have had 3CPO drag her back, he could survive the vacuum and it would give him something to do in the movie.
I was laughing my ass of when this happened
@@goofygoobergod1666 I was like, "What the FUCK? This SUCKS!"
The biggest problem I had is that I have already forgotten most of the movie the build up was for nothing 2 + hours of jumping from scene to scene with not much happening it just flat it seems unprofessional to me
I still find myself feeling bummed out at how poor this trilogy ended up. They had the pieces to do something great, and botched it 😔
The investors made their money back and then some. Therefore the movies were great.
"Botched" implies a great move/spot was called for and then a simple "whoops" occurred and they missed the mark. This is a purposeful, prolonged, planned shitting/puking upon the nice new expensive white alpaca rug. Much worse than a botch.
No one can blame you. This film is one of the worst films of all time. Just tried to watch it again. It is absolute drivel. The screenplay is so awful it is almost funny but it is tragic.
@@Simp_Zonetechnically they didn’t win the end because people like me will never give them money when it comes to the sequels.
The worst part is they’ll never get a second chance. We will never have the full Luke/Han/Leia onscreen reunion that we signed up for in the first place. Because Carrie Fisher has left us.
The fact that there are tons of people out there who would love to make a SW movie and JJ/Rian threw away that opportunity is enraging
Google - Why is The Last Jedi so hated?
From various sinister online campaigns, to racist and misogynistic attacks on actors, to bafflingly stupid takes and interpretations of the film, The Last Jedi inspired the worst impulses of a far-right movement that's taking hold of the internet and extending its influence into the real world.
it's just a shit film.

People say that Luke going into hiding wasn't weird because Yoda and Kenobi did as well. But they went into hiding because they were being hunted down. Also, they went into hiding and didn't try to erase the jedi. That was literally the entire thing with the empire.
Not to mention they went into hiding with an actual plan.
Hide Vader's children and wait until they are strong enough to become Jedi and defeat the Empire. Not fuck off on some remote planet to die. (And for some reason leave behind a map to find him despite stating he didn't want to be found, one of the worst plot holes to come out of TLJ.)
The second he began with “Number 3: #BELIEVEWOMEN” I was like “Oh shit, Vito’s really gonna go there” 😂 He’s not wrong though. This movie was probably the most un-subtle attempt to promote a social movement I have EVER seen.

"brushes off his shoulder. Dies on a rock." I laughed so hard
Biggest mistake was having different writers/directors for one trilogy
You’re super right. I though the Force awakens was alright and set up a decent new storyline to build up on, but the moment control changed spelled death.
I mean they more or less did that with the original trilogy... when it comes to directors anyway.
Therefore these movies are just inexcusably terrible
Marcus Pasceri Original trilogy was completely different because George Lucas was behind it one way or another. It had a vision/direction of the story. Sequel trilogy does not have that and is a mess
Though I hated the force awakens you could have started a trilogy from there. They kind of wrote themselves into a corner and have done no character development, I don't understand why the republic was only 5 planets and if that is all it was why would you want to rebuild it. They couldn't even find a giant planet preparing to kill them.
That's not the issue - it was done in the original trilogy as well. But when you do that those two people need to sit down and discuss the connectivity of the films.
There's no way any meeting like took place
They should have let Finn die! He would have gone down as a hero but instead he went on and in episode 9 he’s just kinda there, irrelevant.
Seriously, it came as such a surprise when he decided to dive into the cannon. I didn't like it, but it got me real memories of Independence Day, but there was more to it. I was proud of Finn. Proud of the bravery of a Stormtrooper turned good. I was ready to salute his sacrifice.
THEN ROSE COMES IN AND FUCKS EVERYTHING!! What is even this storytelling? It is as in the video, the actress is good, she played her character quite well... but the role itself sucked big time.
NothingXemnas could not agree more. He was ready to make the ultimate sacrifice for the resistance, for the good side. After renouncing his stormtrooper past. Then Rose fucked everything up, and they weren’t even like a real thing after that, they just became acquaintances if anything so what was her whole spiel about we’re going to win the war with love and whatnot.
I actually disagree, it comes out of nowhere and it feels unsatasfying
mannygomez24 I’m so mad that Finn was one of the main characters, but in the TLJ and ROS, he’s just there. He was one of my favorite characters in Force Awakens.
Should have killed finn and kept han

I felt that they were trying to set him up to be a major antagonist, but they provided absolutely nothing to the audience but a vague feeling that he should be important and that he is evil. That would be more entertaining.

When you literally have thousands of comics and books for source material and millions of die-hard fans that would do anything to help yet still find someway to fail.
"I am your father" works because of the buildup. For two films Luke has idolized his father, and hated Darth Vader. To him his father is his whole reason for becoming a Jedi and he believed Vader killed his father (and his father-figure Obi Wan). To then find out that they're the same person shatters his whole world. It destroys everything he's believed in and fought for over two films. That's why it was such a shock.
Rey being Palpatine's granddaughter or any other twist in the DT doesn't have the same impact because it's thrown in with no buildup. It's a cheap attempt to throw in a twist because it's what ESB did.
@@kaylalovell98765 no I am
Oliver Ford why are you talking about ROS twist in a comments section of a video about TLJ. Surely you should at least mention Rey being a nobody.
It would have been a good build up, if Rian Johnson didn’t direct TLJ. Abrams Started the build up in TFA. I think the trilogy would have been much more coherent with just Abrams directing. Maybe not a great trilogy as the originals were, but much more respectable.
And we saw that Rey's grandad plot twist coming a mile away.
Oliver Ford, you did have Rey shooting lightning though so it’s some foreshadowing but yeah, Disney had no plan there.

Aguy 24, that’s literally what I was thinking. So many deaths in this movie yet it’s just glossed over like it’s nothing. Seriously, 2/3 of the Resistance died. Why was Rose was the only one who actually kind of cared? Sure, it was 1 scene and it was only over her sister but it’s something.
TRUE
mark hamil must have been in so much pain emotionally when he was playing luke
Broo your understanding of character arc was waaay better than Disneys🤣
I find it kind of ironic that the only one left alive of the original hero trio is the one character whose actress is actually dead.
Talk about putting all the eggs in the wrong basket.
Or putting the sequel survival in the hands of the bipolar drug addict.
With all these notions of the new SW pandering to modern SJW shit it starts to make sense that they'd kill of Han and Luke, while leaving Leia alive.
Going even so far as giving her the power to magically float through the vacuum of space.
respec wehmen...wehmen so good
Luke became one with the Force. Just like Yoda. Who "died" forty years ago.
There's also chewbacca. Not sure what happened with lando either but I was really hoping to see him in the force awakens but I'm kind of happy he never showed up now

Bruh I like how Disney didn’t even care that the lightsaber Rey gives Luke isn’t even Luke’s, it’s Anakin’s.
The only way these subverted my expectations, was that I expected a good end to the trilogy and got this shit instead.
You missed one "gotcha" for that montage.
Kylo turning to the light side- GOTCHA he's still an antagonist LOLLLLL
That’s a good thing though. The last thing Star Wars needs right now is another redemption story
No it's not. It's fucking stupid because they teased the shit out of his redemption arc since The Force Awakens but when they want to 'subvert that expectation' you don't get any shocking revelation that makes you go "Aha! So he was an asshole all along!" and instead he just went "Fuck it I killed my dad I nearly killed my mom and after I'm killing this Snoke asshole I'm gonna kill Luke and probably gonna fucking knock up this Rey chick to the next sequel for no particular reason that's made clear in the movie and critics are still gonna love me because I'm a melancholic sonuvabitch that cries a lot and eschews established masculinity traits of the dark anti-hero/villain persona."
Go figure the one mistake the Phantom Menace DIDN'T make was done in TLJ. Even Lucas knew better than to have all those pointless gotchas, which is saying something.
The ultimate "gotcha".....Rian Johnson is actually a total hack that only got his job because he's fucking Katherine Kennedy.
Either of them turning, so they could both team up, was the one 'subversion' that could've saved the movie and turned it into something actually INTERESTING and UNPREDICTABLE (in a good way).
But Rian fucked it up and didn't follow through, and so everything reverted back to the exact same set-up we had at the start of the movie. Waste of two and a half hours.
Finn in every sequel movie:

Hehhehheh
This movie literally broke all bonds between me and star wars.
The political and social messaging was so forced that it made the movie nearly unwatchable.

rose crashing into finn who was willing to die to save the resistance just because “she loves him” was the most annoying thing I ever had to sit through in a star wars movie,50 times worse than jar jar.
And that’s saying something
Honestly my only reaction was “great another Mary Sue character”.
Rey, Finn, Leia (for some ungodly reason), and now this chick.
Give me a memorable, meaningful death. Give me something that engages me.
But no, we’d rather kill people’s hope for good stories to give more representation, humor, or whatever Disney’s smoking now.
The movie would have went from 2/10 to 4/10 had Finn and Rose both died, but no. They’re both alive and going to annoy the shit out of us in episode 9.
You also have to wonder how Rose managed to go from retreating in a rickety speeder, pull a U-turn and come in from an angle to hit Finns speeder. She somehow managed to do all this before Finn hit the laser while heading towards it in a straight line. The question can also be raised as to why he didn't intend to bail out of his speeder after pinning the throttle so he would have maybe wind up with a couple fractured bones instead of dying.
It would have been way better if Fin just flew straight into the gun. Nope Gotcha!
Here's the thing: Star Wars already made an awesome feminist storyline way back in the OT. Her name is Leia Organa (RIP Carrie Fisher).
Did everyone follow her blindly? No.
Was she always right? No.
Was she still interesting, kickass, grew wiser from experience, and human? YES.
That's a fucking great point. She subverts expectations from the first scene where you find out she's a princess and yet so badass, all the way to using Ewoks to defeat the technology of the Empire.
When you write a good story, people never notice the politics
@@skeetsmcgrew3282 You also make a great point. I hate having a political agenda crammed down my throat when I'm watching a movie, especially when it's so blatantly obvious. But, when it's subtle and clever, I all but welcome it.
Which is why Leia was actually a relatable kickass character. Someone like Rey isn't because she's too damn perfect and seems to just pull solutions out of her ass. Saying this as a woman too so it's not because I find her strength to be a threat to my fragile masculinity or some shit. Luke has very similar beginnings with Rey but he had flaws, his strengths weren't overblown and he had to grow both mentally and physically before he could even imagine challenging a Sith. I would have disliked him too if he just was some prodigy who can magically succeed in everything.
Plus she was hot in a bikini.
This. I'm so freaking glad someone said it.
When Luke threw his father's lightsaber behind him I said, "What the f*ck," then walked out.
Unfortunately I waited till the mary poppins scene. My girlfriend at the time was actually the one that suggested leaving. Leia was one of her favorite characters ever. Even though this comment will never be seen, I feel at peace after watching this video and reading the comments. My gf and I just rewatched Episodes I-VI (including Rogue One) and she asked if we should watch the sequels. I told her I’d begrudgingly watch TFA, but I REFUSE to watch TLJ or Rise of Skywalker (or whatever it’s called). I genuinely can’t think of a movie I hate more than TLJ. It was so bad that I still, to this day, have not seen the Rise of Skywalker. It’s not even just stubbornness, I just can’t even muster up a sliver of interest in seeing it. I sincerely think it’s great that there are some people out there who can happily say they love the sequels. I wish I could share that with them. But personally, I don’t even acknowledge the sequels as canon. They are not Star Wars movies. They’re bad fanfiction that somehow made it into theaters for a short time. That’s it.

Almost every single outfit that Luke wears in Empire, from the beginning of the film through his battle on Bespin, are all very action oriented and form fitting. Even his flight suit seems very tailored to his physique. I've had this theory that it was the directors way of showing us that this Luke is a more adult and seasoned warrior than what we saw in A New Hope, where his clothing was the more baggy sort that a kid would wear. Anyway, Luke loses his fight with Vader and the next time we see him, after his rescue by Leia and Lando, he is back in another ill fitting tunic getup. It's as if the director is trying to symbolize, through his outfits, that Luke's confidence and belief in himself have been brought so low that he's, spiritually, almost back at the beginning of his story. Hubris has brought the hero low and taught him humility.
I don't know. Maybe I am seeing things that are not there or giving the director too much credit. Would be cool though if it was intentional.
JJ: "Hey Rian, I have a small journal of ideas for Episode VIII here-"

JessicaG nah, its time to put the nail in the coffin in this franchise. I know you’re probably young and you grew up with it and you want to make these new movies your own to grow with and have your children grow with. Its not unfair to want that. Unfortunately these movies are totally devoid of substance. They are shallow husks and cheap imitations of the universe they claim to portray. Which is why people cant make the same connections to these movies. Its not a matter of being a fragile male - such an easy claim to make. Sounds harsh and makes me want to wet myself. Its more a matter the defenders desperately clinging on to a train gone off its rails. So, go ahead lead with that if you have to. Though wouldnt you say it sounds remarkably similar to when someone is called a ‘snowflake’?
Between the prequels with their boring trade federation politics trying to play like its all high brow yet comes off totally uninteresting and the new trilogy how could it compete? How could it ever hold a candle to the universal themes and mythological archetypes that the original trilogy was infused with? Squeaky wheel needs to get the grease, jessica. How do we grease the wheel? By not giving that franchise one more red cent.

@@boxing.asceticNot quite so bad for me. I was 9 years old when Return of the Jedi came out. This was the absolute height of love for Star Wars for me. I was too old to really fall in love with the prequals, but when the Force awakens arrived I had just become a father and I was reminded just how much I loved this franchise. I enjoyed the Force Awakens despite knowing full well it was a rehash of ANH. I was ready for a great next film thanks to all of the setups made by Abrams. I cannot believe that Disney/Lucasfilm showed this movie prior to release to any Star Wars fans, because if they had bothered they would have realised that 50% of their audience were going to be really pissed with this film. More importantly for them they would have realised that those pissed 50% are the ones that see their movies multiple times and buy all the crap. Toys R Us went under thanks in part to this movie. There will be college courses teaching the failure of Star Wars and what not to do with a beloved franchise. Tragic
I don't even like starwars all that much. But the first new movie legit had me mad. Disney squandered a great story.
go watch episodes 1-6 and rejoice
they can never take that away from us

I moped around for weeks, I still feel really bad putting so much hope in the force awakens. I even bought/made a first order stormtrooper officer costume! I haven't worn it since the last Jedi.
As am i
Bad acting, bad plot, bad writing, bad characters, just plain old bad all the way around. Disney doesn't have an eraser big enough to remove this stain on the series....
How I would do the sequels:
First Movie:
The New Republic and Luke’s Jedi Order are both intact and thriving. We see Ben Solo being trained by Grandmaster Luke. An Ex-Imperial Admiral/Warlord attacks the New Republic with his gigantic fleet. Poe Dameron is shot down above Jakku. He meets and recruits Rey into the NR. Finn deserts the admiral’s service and joins the NR with vital inside informations on the admiral’s fleet. Han, Chewbacca, Poe, Finn and Rey join up to neutralize the threat. Meanwhile Luke is getting more and more afraid of Ben’s potential, impulsivity and his darker side; as Luke constantly sees visions of his fall to the dark side. Luke sends him away on a far away mission, with several other students. They turn on him and try to kill him saying Luke instructed them to do so, but in reality they’re jealous of his special treatment/status as Han and Leia’s Son. Ben kills them all and retreats into wilderness of the planet he’s on. Han sacrifices himself to defeat the Admiral/Warlord. A reawakened Old Republic Sith (for example Exar Kun) finds Ben, informs him of Han’s Death and recruits him as his new student. Rey is discovered to be force sensitive and starts her training under Jedi Master (and General) Leia.
Second Movie:
3 years later. Ben Solo, now Kylo Ren, hunts down Luke’s Students and either kills them or recruits them into his Knights of Ren. Kylo and his knights attack and destroy Luke’s Main Jedi Temple and kill most of the students and masters. Luke arrives, confronts Kylo and defeats him; forcing him to retreat. After that Luke, seeing everything and everyone he has lost, falls into a deep depression. With Kylo’s Plan to destroy Luke’s Jedi Order foiled in the minute, he devises a new plan, to infiltrate the NR - which works perfectly. He manipulates several NR Admirals/Generals/Officers into provoking a civil war. Chewie, Poe and Finn fruitlessly try to prevent it. Meanwhile Rey and Leia discover that Kylo behind this and go to stop him. Kylo sends his Knights after them, but Leia and Rey manage to dispatch most of them. Then they both attack Kylo, but he’s too strong for them. Leia is killed and Rey is forced to retreat. Kylo calls his remaining knights together and kills them, feeling he doesn’t need them anymore; as the First Order finally emerges from the unknown regions and attacks the distraught New Republic.
Third Movie:
A year later. Rey manages to pull Luke out of his depression and he completes her training. The New Republic is on the brink of destruction, because of the first order attacks. The Resistance is established as the last bastion of the NR, in order to combat the First Order. Rey stealthily sneaks out to confront Kylo Ren on her own, against Luke’s wishes. As she is slowly overwhelmed by Kylo once again she taps into the dark side, uses force lightning and manages to turn the tables. The Old Republic Sith reappears, betrays Kylo Ren, takes Rey as his new apprentice and leaves him to die. With a newfound thirst for revenge, having no other options he reluctantly teams up with Luke. The remaining Jedi Knights and Masters join the Resistance in bringing down the First Order. Kylo, seeing he’s not strong enough to take his Master, he goes to confront Dark Rey, who is revealed as a Palpatine. And Luke goes to confront Kylo’s former Master. Luke successful kills him. Kylo tries to convince Rey to team up with him, but he fails and Rey kills him, in a moment of distraction. Now Luke goes to defeat Rey, succeeds in overwhelming her, but then her body is taken over the Old Republic Sith’s Spirit and Luke is forced to sacrifice himself to defeat his spirit and Rey is returned to being a Jedi. Meanwhile, after the death of his spirit his Empire slowly falls apart and the Resistance is able to destroy it. However there’s one Final Boss in the First Order - Captain Phasma. She defeats Finn (at first), kills Poe and is eventually is defeated herself by the Teamwork of Chewie, Finn, Lando and Boba Fett, the new Mandalore.
The sequels were a totally mess.

Major props to Mark Hamill, even though he hated what they did to his beloved character he still gave it his all and his performance is stellar. The script sucks but he still manages to shine.
Rumor has it, it took upwards of 20 million dollars to convince him to do it. Honestly, I feel bad for him. He did a fine job with what he was given and he's 20 million dollar richer but still...he has to live the rest of his life living with the fact that he agreed to ruin his greatest legacy.
In all honesty I really love the dude, he seems like a cool, intelligent and humble guy, but in all honesty I really dont like that he agreed to do this movie. He knew that the movie will suck, he knew everything from this entire video, yet he accepted, and I dont know why. 20 million bucks is a lot for me, it is a lot for you, but is it really a lot for him too?I am sure that he already had AT LEAST 10 million dollars in his pocket, more than enough for a luxury life, yet he took the money and proceeded on destroying one of the greatest trilogies of all time.
@@xmm8299 You have a good point but I would still argue that 20M is enough. Even if he had 30M saved up, he's basically doubling his life savings in a year's worth of work. That's a sweet deal. Imagine retiring and someone saying "we'll double what you have if you come back for 1 more."
I think it brings up an interesting subject...which is that every person had a price. I know I do, and it's a lot lower than 20M lol
Xennon52 the reason to answer all of your questions is because the collections and compilations of mark hamill hating on TLJ are taken out of context. It never gives the second part of his answers, and he loves the movies and proceeds to say in a lot of the edited interviews “I now perfectly understand his character”.
I didn’t like the last Jedi, but the idea of the Jedi being nothing but bad for the world is correct. That they were full of hubris and arrogance, and by having more Jedi, there will be more Sith. That’s what “bringing balance to the force” was meant about the chosen one. There will always be light and dark equal, when it is unbalanced, war and destruction happens to balance it out. The Jedi being reconstructed will unbalance the Force and repeat the tragedy of the Sith.
The entirety of the prequels is to show how arrogant and stupid the Jedi were, and how idiotic they were to ignore a whole half of the force, blocking out the dark completely, and not adapting to how things work. They thought evil and Sith would come out open super evil baddies, but instead the Sith adapted and the Jedi were stuck in their old ways. They were idiots. The Jedi temple was built on the ancient Sith temple, and that’s why palpatine was able to fuck up their force feelings for how close the Sith Lord was.

It's also worth mentioning that Rose flies in to hit Poe from out of thin air. She's nowhere to be seen as he's approaching the cannon. Then after the collision Finn and Rose sit there and are no fired on by the line of enemies some yards away. Then Finn somehow drags Rose back to the hangar (a couple of miles away?) without being killed by the line of enemies as well.
Its so stupid shes basically like "oh no finns gonna die so let's save him by potentially killing him myself and all the resistance. Which would actually made a much better ending: finn and rose die in the crash, the resistance dies coz of the cannon except for mary ray sue who has to rebuild the resistance together with grumpy old luke
The worst part is that it was a selfish decision of her, let everyone die so she can have Finn for herself

They tried to subvert the expectations TFA created, in the same way TESB subverted expectations after ANH. But TESB did it so incredibly well, not just the famous reveal at the end, but all through the film. Luke goes from conquering hero to realising he doesn't have a clue. He fails all the way through the film, he doesn't even realise he's talking to Yoda. They tried to do something similar in the TLJ but got it all wrong.
I know I'm like 4 years late to this discussion, but how the space travel works is there are routes mapped out in the Star Wars universe. You can't just warp in any direction. You have to follow routes or lanes. Otherwise, you will collide with whatever is in the path. You are still a physical thing moving through space, not some kind of dimension portal.
I believe it's both, if I'm not mistaken. Because the hyperspace lanes exist in hyperspace, since it's difficult to navigate.
Idk I think asteroids would be in the way regardless
