  • I went exploring with @RemoteTrooper to check out some of the lead and zinc mines in the Goodsprings area of Nevada. Unfortunately, the mine was sealed, but it was still a fun day exploring the desert.

The fact that this mine is gated breaks my heart. I have great memories of visiting it with my son and other friends through the years. It also has some of the nicest galena specimens that I have ever found. The "do gooders" strike again.

Used to explore with my buddy in the early 1990's drove an old 1980's toyota pickup 4x4. Lot of the buildings were still standing and many items still left behind by the miners. Those days had far less people off-roading in the deserts lot less damage to the historical mines. I don't even bother going anymore most historical sites are now blocked off, and gated people don't respect history they spray paint it. I don't understand why someone would spray paint what is left of an old miners cabin.

@@leighsayers2628 because I was bored is why I watched this video and I was curious about what was at the top of the mountain.
I grew up in that kind of desert country and there are many old mines around.
If a mine is closed off I believe it will be for safety reasons.
Somebody went to a LOT OF EFFORT to drag that heavy steel and a WELDER up to the top of the mountain and closed off the entrance. I'm kinda curious who that was.
Could have been the government or the mine OWNER.
I get pissed off too when the government gates off access roads. I don't like that and when you inquire about it they usually tell you something like they don't have the budget to maintain the road or that campers or dumpers are going in there and trashing the place.
Ohh I've seen that happen right around here.
And I doubt that mine is under claim because I saw no evidence of any claim markers recent workings. So it was probably the government that shut it off. I don't know what history you're expecting to find in there. It was probably looted of mining artifacts long ago.
There's a channel I used to subscribe to called "exploring mines in Nevada California and Arizona. That's a good channel if you like this kind of thing.
The video about the seemingly haunted Horton mine is interesting.
But those guys don't make a video unless they go INSIDE the mine. Have a good one!

They would have to prove their qualifications, use proper safety gear and be required to report the exact place and time they plan to explore. Mines could be rated for level of difficulty, like rapids in a river. Yes, it would be dangerous, but people die all the time in lakes and rivers. Swimming is still legal.
