WORKERS & RESOURCES SOVIET REPUBLIC | DESERT BIOME - EP07 Realistic Mode (City Builder Lets Play)

  • We're diving back into Workers & Resources: Soviet Republic as it launches into 1.0, playing in Realistic Mode difficulty, looking to establish a glorious nation in the barren lands of the Desert Biome! In this let's play, we'll showcase gameplay of what, in my opinion, is one of the best modern city builders of all time. Playing in Realistic Mode really ramps up the difficulty and shows the depth of the game - the economic simulation, the complexity of construction, and the number of considerations to take in mind turn this city-building game into so much more - a nation-builder. With the Biomes DLC, we have access to three unique biomes, and our (first of many?) let's play will showcase Desert gameplay, providing tips and tricks on how to start in the desert, and copious examples showing what not to do too, I'm sure.

      @@hasansharabaty2355 What is the penalty to getting religion? There's a health penalty for alcohol, true enough. But I don't see a penalty to religion. They will go and pray for an hour or two once a week or so, if they are deluded I mean believers, but it keeps those who want to happy. Perhaps there's some hidden impact on loyalty, but it isn't obvious, and at this stage when you have "church" buildings already built for free and can't use secret police, radio propaganda etc. then you may as well let them. It won't have a negative effect, it will actually make people at this stage happier because it is one of their needs being met.

    The idea of having tourism around said mosques is a great one. It will not only, as you said, provide a challenge but show that the nation cares about it's history, heritage and, most importantly, the individual rights of the workers. With that said NATO won't be able to say your nation opresses the people because of religion/culture or that it tries to "erase" national history, giving you a extra edge in propaganda and, perhaps, even diplomacy.

      Yes, you might consider to drop people off at the gravel processing plant first, since it only requires 15 workers, the excess could then go to the brick factory. You could also set to unload only, for example 50 %, of the workers at either stop.

    When I moved to the desert I learned what cold and hot was... -2C during the winter can happen and it is cold, but man, 46c is something else entirely. Don't forget about humidity. I'd rather be in 46c with 10% humidity than 20c with 80% humidity and the humidity by the ocean could get up to 70% or more on some days.

    I think you should invest in asphalt for the road from the border to town, and plan for asphalt all the way to the oil pumping station, otherwise exports will be very slow when you need the income the most.

  • @cannaewargaming4815

    I doubt there's any relative effect. Citizens report the building temperature is too low when it drops below 15 deg C in the base game. That appeared to be what happened - if the air temperature drops very low then the temperature in the new buildings will start to fall, but it did happen only briefly and on the date in the base game when you would normally see the first snow. But it seems to be brief and intermittent. Without a heating plant you might get a few issues with health, but it shouldn't been serious unless you were to get a few weeks in a row with the temperature in residences under 15. Citizens are much more likely to get sick as well as escaping. Let's see if it stays over 15 most of the time.

This is cause there's no water in the area that stores heat from the sun during the day (unlike ashkehkal) and no trees to stop/slow down winds which compound to become extremely cold.

    When you upgrade existing roads, you could maybe use temporary dirtroad bypasses like this:
    ________
    / \
    -------======-------
    Where the = is the part to be upgaded and the rest is dirt roads.
    Then your vehicles don't have to do giant rounds around the town, while upgrading.
    Edit: That also enables you to do upgrade small stretches of road at a time.
    I don't own the game, so I can't verify that it works but I think it's worth a try.

    @davidchester1612 Před 7 dny

    I haven't played WR:SR in over two years so the system may have changed, if so please ignore this. Don't the pumpjacks have a small amount of storage (5 oil blobs) and can slowly load directly to a truck? If they still can, a good move may be to string a set of wires over (for future proofing add a switch soon after leaving town), set up a substation, set the build for the bridge and the 3 pump jacks, hold the build on the pipe and storage. When complete buy 3 tankers, set up 3 routes, one for each pumpjack (tanker set to wait for full load) to the border and back. There is a good chance that one or more of the high % pumpjack will fill its storage before one truck can do the return trip, in that case buy more trucks. Once you have a bit of money coming in do a scan next to the road to the border to see if there are any other pockets along the way, if they are any over 40-50% hit them with a pumpjack, substation, and truck route (will pay for its self in time). Yes it is not as efficient as pipes, switches, storage, loading and one route with multiple trucks, but it's a cheaper and your getting some money in. When it seems they have paid them selves off, assign the pipelines, storage and other stuff to be built. When completed, pull the trucks to the depot and improve the road to the loader (oil can go into storage while access is cut), then redeploy all the trucks to the new route between the loader and border, when they start waiting for loading after a round or two then redeploy the excess trucks to new pumpjacks or other locations.

    The bus won't go to the gravel processing if there is no-one on board. With a 90% setting for the brickworks everyone gets off there. You need to set it lower on the bus line, or better set a limit on the brickworks workers much lower until you have a higher population. If the bus has more people on board than workplaces then the excess will always stay on the bus to the next stop even if you haven't set any percentages on the bus line. As low as 10 workers in the brickworks might be OK for now until you grow some more. Remember if there is many workers then they will not only produce more bricks but they will need more coal, and one dumper on the slow roads might not be enough. Plus if you don't take the bricks away often enough then the brickworks becomes full of bricks and then workers stop working. You bring them to work, pay them etc. but they sit around and do nothing. So build up the number of workers you allow there are your infrastructure improves to support them. And it should allow a few workers who are available to go to the gravel.

I'd be in favour of pausing to allow for planning, giving oneself restrictions is fine but one should not overdo it.

    I think you should allow/tolerate religion, meaning you leave pre-established/cultural/historical Mosques untouched and to 'accomodate' the original Arab Population in their ancestral believes. However since you are also 'importing' workers from fellow Soviet Republics, I'd say that your Nation isnt homogenous.
    This is why you should also allow the sale of alcohol but possibly limit it's production to a few key-locations.
    Story wise it would make sense that after a larger conflict in the late 50s the rebellious 'natives'/ethnical population was driven from this swathe of land and you are tasked to rebuild this Nation from it's ruins, even better, stronger than before with the power of Communism and Central planning!
    This new nation, this REBORN Nation, will blend the old ways of these people with the new ways of Communism, creating something new in the process, something better, something stronger! Just like how if you combine dirty and impure coal and brittle iron together, you create strong and durable steel, the backbone of industry, production and construction!
