Nice helpful video. If anyone knows where to find a good wiring diagram for a 89 b250 van I would be forever grateful!! I'm having problems with one of my taillights and some previous owner has fucked up every harness in the whole van and made a complete mess. It's a nightmare to work on without a diagram...
The best advice I can ever give on the wiring stuff is a manual for the van, there's one similar to a Haynes manual but has better coverage of the wiring schematics. I can't remember the name. And as far as the wiring being a mess, mine was the same way, those older dodges were plagued with electrical and wiring issues.

I'm not sure if there is a relay for the charging system in these vans or not, best I can figure would either be a relay issue or just a wiring issue. You may end up having to sort or "hard wire" the alternator
@@CrazyWoody1989 it would fire on a jump and the battery would show ok but as soon as you take the cable out, battery starts draining and the engine would die😅
@@Thriftingking it's definitely got a completely dead connection between the alternator and battery. I just thought too, if it has some of those fusible links anywhere in the wiring they may be bad. They're hard to find sometimes and a pain to deal with

Thank you, now I can find my fuel relay and change some lines since my 94 b250 wont pass smog. Replacing vacuum lines and fuel line between fuel and jacked her’s and also want to clean the fuel injectors. Hopefully it isn’t the catalytic converter. So far the issue is too much CO over 2.15 in CA.
Have a 93 B250. Only 194,000 miles on it. AC hasn't worked for years. Freon leaked out. Needs flushing. Heater core just went, did bypass. SoCal beach van, don't need any AC anyway. Should I shut it off from that shutoff relay, though? And Bypass the AC compressor with the drivebelt to save gas, to increase Horsepower? I mean with the $5.90 gas still in L.A. County. Do you need a shorter serpentine belt for that?
You can bypass it with a shorter belt, just make sure all the accessories are turning the right way. And I wouldn't even worry about the relay and stuff lol
Mine has over 300k as well lol still running like a beast starts having headlight issues now I'm either thinking a bad ground somewhere or the relay under the dash... I have no clue when it comes to electrical on vehicles
Kyle Thomas I'm not incredibly great at electrical either haha. When I first got this van none of the lights worked and it turned out to be a ground issue.
Kyle Thomas The brake booster shouldn't be too hard to change but the power steering pump is kinda awkward to fool with. Once the belt is off It's easier to work on from the bottom and the bolts take a 19/32 socket. You'll very likely need a 19/32 wrench too.
I just replaced my alternator but it’s still not charging my battery. It has the 318 in it it’s a 92. Any other ideas why the new alternator isn’t charging the Battery?
Sounds like it could have a broken wire or a fried fusible link in the circuit somewhere. There's no way to say where it could be without tracing wiring though. A nightmare I know.

I am trying to see if there is a fuse or relay that makes my speedometer and mileage indicator to work on a 1990 Dodge B250 van? I bought a new speed sensor on the transmission and a new instrument cluster but it still does not work. Please help!
I would imagine if it were a fuse issue there would probably be other things aside from the speedometer/odometer not working but I could very well be wrong. Seems like there's a thing like a reluctor wheel inside the transmission that sensor gets its reading from, perhaps it has gone bad?
If you disconnect the Smog Pump you will cause the Catalytic Converter to Fail. It is Cheaper at the Auto Parts store than the junkyard. Learned this all the hard way.
The catalytic converter is also gone lol, the smog pump wasn't hooked up or in working order even when I first got the van, so it was just dangling out in the breeze when I took it off. I did not get rid of the catalytic converter though, that was done by the previous owner
That would have been fine. But I moved to California and had to pass inspection. They frown upon no catalytic converter. As a matter of fact this a criminal charge if I had had a California tag and license
@@CrazyWoody1989 actually it was easy. The vacuum hose diagram is on a sticker under the hood. It could be a few different things, on older vehicles it's usually a speedo cable issue but on a newer car with a vehicle speed sensor it could be a sensor or voltage issue. Whatever the case, generally it's a lot harder to track the problem down than it is to fix it once it's found.
Sorry to hear you no longer have the Dodge van. I was hoping to get some insight into how the auto shutdown relay was bypassed. I just purchased a Roadtrek B350 and the shutdown relay was bypassed with an inline splice in a little red wire near the battery straight to the battery. @@Andre-hz8yx No problem! I would start by looking to see if the socket where the bulb plugs in has any corrosion and make sure it's getting a solid connection. Other than that, I'd look for grounding issues, a bad ground can cause all sorts of funky problems
Start by checking the fuel filter first. And also maybe the fuel pressure regulator, they are both much easier parts to test and replace than the pump. But even the pump is not the worst thing ever to replace but I would still check it last.
It's possible for it to be either in the center-ish of the firewall if you're looking under the hood, or under the driver's side of the dash in the cabin. I can't remember exactly but when you get into the fuse panel they should all be labeled.

You can unhook the relay for it, but I don't believe it's 100 percent necessary to. You will probably have to bleed off a little bit of fuel pressure, I think the dodges were rated at 15psi?
Mine used to do the same thing if it was realllly cold. I'm not sure why it did it but I always mashed the gas a little bit and held it and it would start

Also, I just realized I didn't exactly answer your question lol, there is definitely a fuse for the lights but I don't know exactly where it would be on a 79 model. Hey sturdy wood just wondering if there's a way to get in contact with you. Just bought a 91 dodge ram b350 and I'm having some problems with, I believe the ASD. It was bypassed on mine aswell and I'm trying to go back to factory. At the moment it doesn't start, no crank, fuel, or spark which leads me to think it's the ASD
It seems to be very common to see them bypassed. I know they were pretty troublesome to begin with. If it's bypassed now, I would just start tracing some wires and try to find what isn't getting any juice. It will be easier to find the problem that way than what it would be to try and put an ASD back on it I believe.
@@CrazyWoody1989 that's also what I keep finding, but i still can't seem to understand why it would need to be bypassed. I'm not very mechanically inclined but I'm slowly figuring these things out. So basically I started with a giant mess of wires from an after market radio and some switches to turn the head lights on. Found a relay what I believe was the aftermarket ASD to bypass the original one but everything that was connected to that was the radio and light switches. I've since taken all that crap out. But keeping in mind what you said, since I've taken out what I believe was the bypass asd should I just start over and get a new relay and bypass the original again?
@Unknown H yes, if you know which wires are which then you should just get another relay like was in it and hook it all back up and hopefully that should fix it. One reason it's so common for the ASD to be bypassed is these vans and especially the next body style after them were prone to a lot of electrical issues. My Dodge van had endless electrical demons. Pretty much nothing works in it (radio, a.c. interior lights etc)
Stuart Woody hey this is the same person who commented before in this thread. I did what you said took me a while because I had limited time to work on it. Finally after all that work getting it back to its original set up I got it to start back up and it does amazingly but I also found there’s a short in the transmission. My question is if you happen to know anything about the solenoids that are plugged into it. There are 3 from what I found two plugged on the outside and one inside. Or anywhere I can find this diagram? I’m hoping if I replace a particular solenoid it will get going no problem. I’m just not sure which is which or what is what?
@Malaysia Nunez I don't know about the transmission wiring much in these things. I imagine one plug has something to do with shift solenoids and one probably operates the external overdrive unit. If you just Google "A518 wiring diagram" or something along those lines there will probably be forums galore about it. The transmissions in these old dodge trucks and vans were certainly a weak point
David Baker I actually can't remember exactly how I did it, I know I had to do a lot of tracing through wires and digging through forums when I did it haha. I have never been a pro at wiring so it was difficult for me and it's been so long ago I forgot what all it consisted of. I'm sure there's probably several ways to do it, and probably simpler ways than how I did it haha
Why would you bypass the relay? I ask because mine was also bypassed by the previous owner and I'm trying to unfuck everything they did to the wiring. I didn't know where it was but that empty plug you show is the same one I have in mine.
skiddyfisk There could be any number of reasons why it was bypassed. That is one thing about some of the older Dogdes, they were known to have a lot of wiring issues. Mine was bypassed because it was causing ignition problems and it was just a lot easier and simpler to bypass it than it was to fix it back to original.
My Radiator is leaking 1988 Camper van, but is not the Radiator, I look under, but couldn't see were the leaking is coming from but very near the water pump, it's too narrow to see as u know " ill open it up from inside the van hoping I can get to see, I'm guessing it's a pipe, what do u think brother?
It's more than likely either one of the hoses or the water pump itself. I would check the hoses first just because they are the easiest to check and replace if need be.
Most older throttle body injected vehicles don't actually have one. Usually the easiest way to do it is to put a tester with a valve on it in place of the fuel filter.
On the throttle body carb it is right on the back of the carb with small hose coming out of it.(FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR) If that is what you are referring to? Just bought one at autozone for under 50.00 bucks. Montana Rick.

Sadly I don't have the van anymore, but if I remember correctly it only had 10 amp fuses in it

@@CrazyWoody1989 yeah that would be really nice to have... I'll try to find one online, but if you remember the name of it please tell me! Yeah so I've noticed.. but I like it anyway 😀
Yeah it's hard to not like them even with all the issues. It was part of the fun having it trying to keep something as ragged as it was running lol
I will make this reply to all of you. I have a 1990 dodge W-150 4x4 with a 5.2 auto-trans, W/ air. A good buddy of mine had an actual 1990 Dodge service manual for that year only. I talked him out of it, so I would more than be happy to send pics. Of the info you are needing. It is so nice to have the the year specific actual dodge manuel. The only options are the motor categories and diesel/ trans/ . Very precise wiring diagrams and the manufacturers actual test of every system and components to diagnose a problem.........I would be more than happy to share the info or even copy a page in the catalog to email a picture of it to help my fellow DYI techs I know what it is like to have a haynes manuel that covers 15 years of different vehicles. Peace my brothers! Montana Rick.
I have a B-150 and just checking, I put NEW Alternator and Battery recently but still would not charge? Any idea where should I look next?
I'm not sure if there is a relay for the charging system in these vans or not, best I can figure would either be a relay issue or just a wiring issue. You may end up having to sort or "hard wire" the alternator
@@CrazyWoody1989 it would fire on a jump and the battery would show ok but as soon as you take the cable out, battery starts draining and the engine would die😅
@@Thriftingking it's definitely got a completely dead connection between the alternator and battery. I just thought too, if it has some of those fusible links anywhere in the wiring they may be bad. They're hard to find sometimes and a pain to deal with
@@CrazyWoody1989 appreciate it! I'm doing a van life and its where I sleep. Now I'm stuck and can't move until I figure out what I can do. Its in good shape with the exception of a few minor body imperfections, its pretty solid and would rather continue using it instead of getting another. The issue only started when I started using the heat excessively this past week due to cold as I have two small dogs with me that gets cold easily.
@@CrazyWoody1989 first I thought the battery and since its under warranty, I received a New one then it would not charge properly and stalling. Since there was some sort burning smell from the hood, I thought it was the alternator so I replaced it ($140 parts +$160 labor) and now it just wouldn't do anything at all.
@@CrazyWoody1989 Just talked to O'Reilly. Don't even need a shorter belt. Should have bypassed the compressor years ago. Thanks, man!

Stuart Woody that's what I'm figuring now just to sort through all the wires and find it
After I figure this out I gotta figure out where I'm getting the money for the brake booster and power steering pump lol
Kyle Thomas The brake booster shouldn't be too hard to change but the power steering pump is kinda awkward to fool with. Once the belt is off It's easier to work on from the bottom and the bolts take a 19/32 socket. You'll very likely need a 19/32 wrench too.
Stuart Woody changing them isn't the problem I'm in short supply of cash at the moment to get the new parts
Ha,got same problem with same van,how did you by pass the ASD relay?
I just replaced my alternator but it’s still not charging my battery. It has the 318 in it it’s a 92. Any other ideas why the new alternator isn’t charging the Battery?
Sounds like it could have a broken wire or a fried fusible link in the circuit somewhere. There's no way to say where it could be without tracing wiring though. A nightmare I know.
@@CrazyWoody1989 thank you!!!! I was so happy to replace the alternator come to find out still have an issue. Thanks again I’ll look at the fusible link

Lmk if you find a video on that i cant find one either.
I have a 1990 b250. Looking for the crankshaft position sensor location. Please help
Unless it has an engine swap it shouldn't have a crank position sensor on a '90 model.
Thanks
@@jtrim1657 Yeah the laws over that stuff in California are insane. I probably don't own a vehicle that would be road legal there lol
@@CrazyWoody1989 actually it was easy. The vacuum hose diagram is on a sticker under the hood. The illegal part was me messing with the catalytic converter so I could make it across the u.s. 5 weeks from Carolina to the Bay Area was not a fun trip. Lucky me it was winter so I took the southern route. initiative and determination are the two things needed to repair your own vehicle. The rest is learning along the way. I way prefer learning from other people than from my mistakes
Any guesses why the Speedo would be bouncing?
It could be a few different things, on older vehicles it's usually a speedo cable issue but on a newer car with a vehicle speed sensor it could be a sensor or voltage issue. Whatever the case, generally it's a lot harder to track the problem down than it is to fix it once it's found.
Have a 1990 D150, how do you bypass ASD? 5pin plugs are not available 5 pin only
Try changing the distributor pick-up, it’s inside the distributor, just under the cap. (Hall effect with interruptor rings)
Sorry to hear you no longer have the Dodge van. I was hoping to get some insight into how the auto shutdown relay was bypassed.
I just purchased a Roadtrek B350 and the shutdown relay was bypassed with an inline splice in a little red wire near the battery straight to the battery. Regularly pops the 30 amp inline fuse. . . )-: The brake lights stay on, also the speedometer and odometer do not work. Seems they might somehow all share a wanky circuit.
Just appeared the fix on your rig was different and maybe better then what I got going on.
Yeah I miss the old Dodge haha. I wish I could remember more about how that was set up so I could give you some good advice on how to fix yours but it's been so long I can't remember. That was one bad thing about those old Dodges, they were notoriously bad to have electrical issues.
Hey I've been working on my 91 Dodge B250 Van and on my Van what you pointed out to be the fuel pump relay is actually the ASD relay. Having some electrical issue with it (crank, ASD not activating as the SBEC is not giving it a ground to activate.. thinking of bypassing it but also would love to find out why its not wanting the Van to run, runs when I jump a cable from + batt terminal to + ignition coil but this bypasses most systems so not great).
My b250 89’ wont start , new starter but noting happens when u turn key….. Any ideas?
It's probably either the ignition switch or a bad relay

@@CrazyWoody1989 Thanks for the reply. LOL yup it's driving me nuts.
@@Andre-hz8yx No problem! I would start by looking to see if the socket where the bulb plugs in has any corrosion and make sure it's getting a solid connection. Other than that, I'd look for grounding issues, a bad ground can cause all sorts of funky problems
@@CrazyWoody1989 Ok will do.
I want to know why my RV is stand on and it puts out after it stays on is it the fuel pump going bad
Start by checking the fuel filter first. And also maybe the fuel pressure regulator, they are both much easier parts to test and replace than the pump. But even the pump is not the worst thing ever to replace but I would still check it last.
hi Stuart, how did you plug the manifold holes after the smog pump delete? I have a 91 b250 van. ty for the great vids!

If it had to sit in traffic for a bit it would try to run a little warm.
Is there a fuse for the fuel pump or should I just disconnect the fuel pump relay when changing my fuel filter?
You can unhook the relay for it, but I don't believe it's 100 percent necessary to. You will probably have to bleed off a little bit of fuel pressure, I think the dodges were rated at 15psi?
Just disconnect the battery. Go from there

Mine used to do the same thing if it was realllly cold. I'm not sure why it did it but I always mashed the gas a little bit and held it and it would start

At one point in time mine basically did the same exact thing. No head or tail lights but it had brake lights and turn signals. It turned out to be a bad wire in mine, and I had to replace some bulbs, so possibly a short? Also, I just realized I didn't exactly answer your question lol, there is definitely a fuse for the lights but I don't know exactly where it would be on a 79 model. I would check the fuses first, then check to see where you're getting power to, starting with the light sockets first just to make sure you've covered all the bases.

Where’s the starter relay on a 94 Dodge Ram Wagon Van located?
The auto shut down relay how did you bypass it
Do you have a video on replacement of radiator?
How do you bypass the asd relay
David Baker I actually can't remember exactly how I did it, I know I had to do a lot of tracing through wires and digging through forums when I did it haha. I have never been a pro at wiring so it was difficult for me and it's been so long ago I forgot what all it consisted of. I'm sure there's probably several ways to do it, and probably simpler ways than how I did it haha
Stuart Woody im lost my asd was missing when I got the van and when I put a new in it just got fried so im stumped
I would check the hoses first just because they are the easiest to check and replace if need be.
hi where is the solenoid located, please?
Hi wheres the fuel pressure value to test the fuel pressure
Most older throttle body injected vehicles don't actually have one. Usually the easiest way to do it is to put a tester with a valve on it in place of the fuel filter.
On the throttle body carb it is right on the back of the carb with small hose coming out of it.(FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR) If that is what you are referring to? Just bought one at autozone for under 50.00 bucks. Montana Rick.
