My family were rich Jews who owned businesses, could afford hired help, and educated their children so that they could speak 4 to 5 languages. Then they started getting threatened with violence, and even though they knew they would lose most of their fortune, they left Germany and came to America. And people think that this took place in the 1930s or something, and I have to tell them the sad truth that this was in the 1860s/1870s. My family were just mindful enough to realize that it may not be safe to stay - had they just weathered the threats and stayed, well I may have never been born. @@KotorFan-zb1bo I couldn’t take any of this movie seriously thanks to the Hitler act. Unfortunate. Would have made a much better drama than comedy. The only person I found funny in this movie was Archie Yates.
Been a while since I’ve seen this movie, but to me the most memorable line from Yorki went something like “We gotta stop them from eating our babies and screwing our dogs!”
Check out a Marriage Story. Also nominated for several Oscars and the top of so many people's lists. And it's on Netflix. It's never too late to review movies. Especially movies that people are still buzzing about.
I’d be a bit surprised/disappointed if someone straight up didn’t like Joker, but it sounds like this movie is really great, and hearing that some people like it even more than Joker is just validation for both y’know!
The conceit of this movie is basically “hey all this neo-fascism and alt-right dogma is, in addition to being really dangerous, actually super childish and basically a boys petulant fantasy taken to its most pervasive and horrific extreme.” Jo-Jo grows out of it as one would grow out of needing an imaginary friend: he met other humans and socially progressed enough to interact with and appreciate them on their own terms.
I think the point is that all dogmas are like that. Not just the alt-right. If you think left-leaning dogma did not need to grow out of their petulants, then you've never been to Portland.
Minus Hitler it was a good movie. That guy was not funny at all. Reminded me of an even more over the top try hard version of Borat. Great movie without him.
Definitely towards the TOP of my Top 10 for 2019 because it’s far more important/necessary of a film than most of what we get most years. It IS about healing divides of hate. In spite of everything, you feel good leaving the theater - you FEEL hope. We definitely need more hope these days 😘
If 2019 movies taught me anything, it’s that dancing is for people who are free, dancing was a very touching theme throughout a lot of the year’s greats, Jojo Rabbit, Joker, Endgame, Once Upon a time in Hollywood, Midsommar, The Lighthouse etc.
Oooo yes yes and yes! Now that you mentioned it I've seen all those movies and dancing was such an illustrative avenue to get inside the minds of these various characters in these films wonderful observation!
Envi at the end with Steve and Peggy, at the heart of it was a short but beautiful way of bringing Steve’s arc full circle but within a bigger context it represented that character finally being free, like in all the other movies I listed.
This is a phenomenal review. He really cuts down to the bones of what this film is and what it's about. This was one of favorite movies of 2019. It had me cracking up at one moment, then in tears in the next. It uses a child's perspective in such a beautiful way to analyze it's themes, and I really haven't seen many films like it.
I’m so glad you liked it! I would have been disappointed if you didn’t. I’m sad so many people stayed away from it because of the description. I’m not going to lie, my boyfriend and I felt kinda wrong buying tickets for it. But we were so pleasantly surprised after we watched it.
I remember the days of internet bloodsports & JF gairepy hosting the debates. A time when people could have actual dialogue about many different issues, but CZcams was like nope , that ain't happening, shut it down.
This is a remarkable film! The tone kept switching from light to dark, for satire to war horror drama, but it was all in one piece, it didn't feel disjointed or artificial. If anything, this movie is very real, very honest and emotional, but also funny and deep. Wow, just wow...

I just happened to have watched the film yesterday. What a rollercoaster of a movie. It's pretty tough to pull a consistent tone and identity while trying to do a movie like this, but somehow the film pulled through. What a wholesome experience! And that "shoe scene". It has been years since I audibly gasped, for anything, really. I literally had to remember myself to breath, that's how shocked I was. Best scene I saw in any 2019 movie.

@@aarongutierrez7705 Yes. I absolutely adored Parasite in both my watches up to this point but second one made it apparent. A handful of flawed editing, pacing and structure choices. What seemed deep before also began to appear a bit more shallow, as if the movie meant to develop it's themes more but then... Ends. The Lighthouse on the other hand only went up with each watch. I try to find an issue with it and I can't. Not to mention how most dedicated cinefiles in sites like Letterboxd held it in higher regards than Parasite, so yeah, it's safe to say, The Lighthouse won't so soon be forgotten. Jasseme9813 because you say bless you when someone sneezes
@@Jasseme9813 the way he said "a jew " sounded similar to "achoo!", so she said "gesundheit" (bless you) as a joke
the shoe scene killed everyone in my screening
My heart. My heart was literally ripped out of my chest.
......but everyone was still "hanging" around for the ending if the movie, right??
@@argentivulpes2813 damn.
I saw it three times. The last time in the movies you could hear the SNF SNF sound of people crying from there to the end
Only movie in 2019 I cried in😭
Is it too early to say Taika Waititi is one of the best modern day directors of our time?
Cause I mean his rap sheet isn't anything to sneeze at.
He hasn't really made a movie yet that is even remotely close to being bad
He makes fun cutesy movies. Nothing close to resembling something genuinely great yet but we’ll see
@@markdemort have you seen jojo?
@@TheKazmosis Thor 3!was bad, not as bad Thor 2 but nonetheless bad, atleast Thor 2 didn't have Thor and Loki act weird and "funny". He also single handedly ruined any chance of having a live screen adaption of Planet Hulk and World War Hulk.

“Yoo-hoo, Jew....” god I’d been waiting on this review forever.
When the shoes came into view it’s probably the first time a movie made me audible gasp
If I were you I’d have given this movie an “awesometacular”.
If you wanna catch up with another 2019 movie, I’d be down for a Lighthouse review. It was soooo good.
satchel he didn’t like dafoe’s lobster
Bad luck to kill a sea bird !
CultureDTCTV best leave him be.
If Jeremy had a steak, he would fuck it
He did The Lighthouse
There are alot of people who need to see this movie. The message is so profound and is needed now more then ever. Taika waititi did a brilliant job on this movie as did the cast and crew. My favorite movie of 2019 and my personal pick for the Best Picture Oscar.
What is the message
Mattinator95 hate
@@Mattinator95 how easily people can learn bigotry from their leaders
@@KotorFan-zb1bo I couldn’t take any of this movie seriously thanks to the Hitler act. Unfortunate. Would have made a much better drama than comedy. The only person I found funny in this movie was Archie Yates.
Been a while since I’ve seen this movie, but to me the most memorable line from Yorki went something like “We gotta stop them from eating our babies and screwing our dogs!”
Nah, the best one from Yorkie was "Our only friends are the Japanese and, just between you and me, they don't look very Aryan..."
“I don’t listen to critics.” I love the irony in that statement! 😂 I love ya Jeremy.
Maybe it's like how stand up comics don't watch other comedians
Check out a Marriage Story. Also nominated for several Oscars and the top of so many people's lists. And it's on Netflix. It's never too late to review movies. Especially movies that people are still buzzing about.
I was glad for Adam Driver after Marriage Story. I feel it's a far better reflection of his acting craft than R.O.S. *Far* better.
Hope nobody bashes me if I say I liked this movie more than Joker. :)
I did too. 🤝
Same!
This is my favorite movie of the year, though I have yet to see LW, OUATIH, and the Irishman.
It’s weird to agree with everything and nothing someone said. But that just happened when I read your comment.
I think the point is that all dogmas are like that. Not just the alt-right. If you think left-leaning dogma did not need to grow out of their petulants, then you've never been to Portland.
Best Sam Rockwell in any movie, he’s sooo good in this.
I dunno, Sam Rockwell in Galaxy Quest was pretty great.
I don't know, did you watch Three Billboards? He was incredible. Still, he nails the role here and nobody else could have done it better.
everyone !
Sam Rockwell is good in almost every movie literally , well imo
I love him in anything. 😍
Mr. Right is A great movie with him in it
How dare they not send Rotten Tomatoes certified critic "Jeremy Jahns" a screener?!?! They obviously don't deserve to be taken seriously.
My favourite part was when Yorkie said 'Im going home I need a cuddle' after the war 😂 it was just the cutest thing. I LOVED this movie
I adore this movie. The kids are adorable and it was so heartwarming but also heartbreaking. So sad that it’s getting so much backlash.
It had some backlash ? Man people are really getting offended by anything nowadays, even well crafted satires...
FINALLY!! A movie I got to see before Jeremy Jahn. 😁😁😁
☄this
So glad you finally got around to reviewing this! Not that many people saw it and it was such a good movie
Minus Hitler it was a good movie. That guy was not funny at all. Reminded me of an even more over the top try hard version of Borat. Great movie without him.
Tahiti: I’m gonna be Hitler in a movie
Jojo fans: BRAKKKA MONOGA!!!
If only Sam Rockwell's character had a chest mounted machine gun in the final battle.
DER MENSCH
*_IST BOSE_*
Realizing the truth about Sam Rockwell and Alfie Allen's characters is just so heartbreaking
Jesse Reviews that they’re closeted gays?
Kevin Davila yup. It’s really only heavily implied once in the film, if memory serves.
@@arobb1016 a few times it was hinted at but one big time
InTheGarage 1994 I’m late, but in the battle scene they’re pretty overtly gay and they do have that upside down triangle
There was dancing in Endgame? Did I miss this?
Oooo yes yes and yes! Now that you mentioned it I've seen all those movies and dancing was such an illustrative avenue to get inside the minds of these various characters in these films wonderful observation!
Envi at the end with Steve and Peggy, at the heart of it was a short but beautiful way of bringing Steve’s arc full circle but within a bigger context it represented that character finally being free, like in all the other movies I listed.
You forgot IT dancing scene 😂
ONCE UPON A TIME IN HOLLYWOOD = BORING
This movie is soooooooo great! Can't wait to buy it and show everyone I know
"What did they do?"
"What they could..."
I never expected to love this as much as I do, instant top 3 movie of all time for me. So many moments I can watch over and over
I literally cried four totally different times in the movie. Laughing at a scene was always followed by tears!
"I get what you are saying. I mean people bullied me too. They said I was a complete lunatic and would get everyone killed."
I'm pregnant and I thought ''I want to be the same ''type'' of mom that Scarlet Johansson is here.'' I won't say more.
Sam Rockwell was so funny in this movie and the second half me want to cry such a fantastic movie
Jeremy do you watch BoJack Horseman the series just ended I really loved it
Thank goodness you got it! SO many people completely missed the point and pathos of this one. Truly a gem. Great review Jeremy!
“I don’t listen to critics.” 🤣
One of my favorite movies of 2019 ❤️💕❤️
I’m so glad you liked it! I would have been disappointed if you didn’t. I’m sad so many people stayed away from it because of the description. I’m not going to lie, my boyfriend and I felt kinda wrong buying tickets for it. But we were so pleasantly surprised after we watched it.
Take away Hitler & it’s a much better movie. Too obnoxious. Trying hard to be funny isn’t funny. Archie Yates was genuinely funny.
JOJO rabbit is probably one of the best satire movies in a while
I remember the days of internet bloodsports & JF gairepy hosting the debates. A time when people could have actual dialogue about many different issues, but CZcams was like nope , that ain't happening, shut it down.
Internet bloodsports? That shit literal neonazis loved?
Seeing his mom's shoes as he's walking broke my heart. I started crying heavy! 😭😭😭
This is a remarkable film! The tone kept switching from light to dark, for satire to war horror drama, but it was all in one piece, it didn't feel disjointed or artificial. If anything, this movie is very real, very honest and emotional, but also funny and deep.
Wow, just wow...
man, Im so happy i found your channel. on the rare occasion i see a movie like this before you or go watch your past reviews, your analysis is almost exactly what i was thinking.
Who else hates it when Jeremy doesn’t mention any negatives about the movie but doesn’t give it an awesometacular
Might be because he saw it late
sometimes a movie just doesn’t hit right or feel THAT good u know. doesn’t matter how much u analyze a movie at the end of the day there is that subconscious feeling of how much u enjoyed it and stuff.
Something can be not amazing and still have almost no flaws. A movie with no flaws doesn't equal it to being a masterpiece. That's simple logic.
@@tenzero5274 Exactly. Sometimes a movie doesn't do anything wrong, but doesn't exceed expectations either. For me, I thought it was clever and charming, if not quite as laugh-out-loud funny as I'd hoped.
If you've heard Jeremy's breakdown of his ratings system, Blu-ray is about right: a solid film that you'll add to your collection and pull out to watch every now and again.
Spingy Katsoon theres a difference between not having any complaints and thinking something is perfect :)
Jojo Rabbits is the most funniest and cutest movie of 2019
Jason Saikaly it was funny heartfelt tragic at the same time
Loved it 💓
No feeling is final, but I kinda wish the feeling this movie left me with was.
Great review Jeremy, as always spot on. You a my favorite film "review" channel in CZcams.
I also FINALLY got to see this movie and I loved it! I really, truly admired how well it presented Jojo to us and made us love him from the start as he grew and changed and learned to love more deeply than before. The movie never ceased feeling genuine and emotional. So many moments were so well played. I couldn’t have expected more!
The movie is worth seeing and it stays with for days after. In a good way.
No shoutout to jojos invincible friend? :(
Yorkie was great.
UnNuclear HAHAHA
I was actually wondering when his Jojo review was going to come out. Easily somewhere in my top 3 or 2 of 2019
JOJO Rabbit is still my favorite movie of 2019! My wife and I absolutely loveddddd this film! A complete rollercoaster of emotions. Definitely worth watching!!
Ive watched a lot of your reviews. Nothing beats your review of terminator 2. The energy you exerted in that video clip was Funtarstic
That intro sounded like Jeremy and the universe are on an eternal battle for the CZcams algorithm.
Are you ever going to do Marriage Story?
See, I've never heard of this movie, so I was expecting a rabbit that is also a stand user.

Jeremy, your reviews are better when the movie has been in theaters than before they hit theaters.
Solely because we are all on the same page and you go freely with the review. No hinders.
Thank you for this! I feel that most people still treats it like a comedy, but this was spot on.
Low key MVP Captain K and the entire opening scene with the musical montage! Cried laughing from that.
"Surely other reviewers commented on the touching nature of this movie, especially since that's the main part of the story. Surely they didn't just focus on 'oh it's some kid and his imaginary Hitler friend'... right?"
movie reviewers have left the chat...
Thank you for this review, Jeremy. There are a lot of critics who are misrepresenting the movie and I just approciate seeing a review that isn't driven by PC bullshit
Thanks for the intro! Been checking in to see if there was a review for Jojo Rabbit for months! I honestly thought you were going to totally bypass doing a review all together.
This actually gives me a much better sense of the film and makes me more open to seeing it. I initially didn't wanna watch this review, but I'm glad I did. Thank you for sharing this.
This was one of my favorite movies of 2019.
"You should question things. That's what adults do." You would think.
Easily the best comedy of 2019, though Parasite was probably the best overall film
That's a weird way to write The Lighthouse.
@@Th0tSlAyErIII the lighthouse was my favorite, but I think parasite was the best made movie overall
Super J-star I rly like the lighthouse, but is it really gonna go down in cinema history like parasite will?
@@aarongutierrez7705 depends on who writes the history books
Subtle without being pretentious, beautifully shot, edited without any hiccups with top tier directing and performances building it further up. The only movie from the last decade that made think: "2001 and Seven Samurai have a new friend joining them". Blade Runner 2049 did come close though.
thanks Jeremy for covering this movie. It was my movie of the year. I laughed, i cried, I was extremely happy in the end.
Just like the quote in the end
"Let everything happen to you, Beauty and Terror, Just keep going, No feeling is final."
dude i love your reviews, always on point with my thoughts and movie taste, youve become my number one source of movie reviews before and after watching a movie, I saw this movie a while ago and wondered why people didnt get it, so i was curious to find out your thoughts, and again, right on point, please never stop, even after obscurity(jk)
