- Maniac was a heavily expressed live band, which shows its mark in that the songs are designed with crowd sing-alongs from the very start. They even prepared cheer lyrics and stage talks. Then again this was an eighties release when metal pretty much lived on stages and in tour buses. The self-titled album is short and varied enough to keep the listener's ears and interest throughout the album, and good enough to attract it in the first place.
There's plenty of classical speed metal here, sounding a lot like Running Wild, Loudness and Vampyr. A lot like Savage Steel would do a few years later. The drums are the classic ones, no double-bass but an undenying rhythmic beat that often proves so much better. The guitars sound like one part Judas Priest-worship, one part Exhorder-worship and a pinch of sludge. You could say they use Running Wild-riffs with more space and time for each chord to sink into the brain tissue.
Bands from the eighties always had one slow song on the album. Maniac confirms the rule. God of Thunder sounds like the essence of "true metal" long before Manowar got their recognition. God of Thunder does however not remind as much of Manowar as of Wizard. In deed tempo, riffing, melody lines and vocal style are all very close. The bass could've been harder and more menacing, but you can't get everything.
it's a consistent album that could be recommended to everyone into speed metal.

This album owns so hard. I can feel my hair get poofier and more mullet like when listening. My pants start transforming into spandex and my forehead starts sprouting a workout band. This is fucking magical. The only thing that Maniac wants us to do is fucking rock. I'm down with that. Their message is heard. This album should have been the soundtrack of a generation. Instead it was exiled into obscurity. The story is much like the spoken word part in We Swear At You. You have to fight for your right to rock! And I think it's time for the world to know the majesty that is Maniac.

Metallica was killer with "Kill 'Em All" Fabulous with "Ride The Lightning", Deep with "Master Of Puppets" and after the death of Cliff Burton... they're falling down. Today Metallica is just a name. Not a band.
Maybe Metallica and Maniac are different kinds of metal even in the 80's. Metallica is a kind of classic speed metal. Maniac is the fusion of the True Power Metal with some roots into speed metal.

Thank you alot, 80s metallica is my favourite music in the entire world, been listening to all kinds of metal lately, still haven't found anything that comes close to their epicness tho. I liked heavy loads death or glory, maniac wasn't too bad either.
IMHO This is closer Speed-metal than Power-metal but remains closest to NWOBHM and stuff than Judas Priest to me. Power-metal is Manowar, Helloween, Savatage and bands treating mytological stuff, swords, dragons, elves and goblins. Speed-metal is Agent Steel and the 1st Anthrax release. follow stuff is called speed-metal 2nd generation. Or maybe I missed something about power-metal, its possible

Trash - это мусор, а музыка, которую играли Slayer сотоварищи - thrash. Впрочем, какая разница, многие говорили "слауер" и "ирон маиден" и ничё, да?
Альбом за 1987 год Live так и не смог нигде найти. Наверно это был bootleg

not bad good 80's metal album from band maniac. good power vocals from the frontman, never heard them before but i like so remind me of another metal band running wild. with the power riffs and vocals. the feels for this album are awesome. it has it moments, and it don't sound overblown. i am impressed.

Metal 6-3-3 pretty much a lot like Manowar or vice versa headbanging 2 "god of thunder" 🤘🏻
It also sounds like early American thrash, Metallica's Kill 'Em All and Anthrax's Fistful Of Metal also have that European speed metal feel! Judas Priest and the NWOBHM are behind all that!

Great Album! Reminds me a little like Judas Priest in "1983" When they came out with Defenders Of The Faith! And the Same kind of Style of Dio a little his Solo stuff! And Other good Metal Bands from the very early "80", s! I did hear this back when it first came out! A very good time in my early Teens like Twisted Sister Iron Maiden ,Priest, Dio and Anvil and other great Heavy Metal!

Dude, Exhorder was formed around the same year, no way this album worshipped a band that hadn't even put out its first studio album until 1990, so that's a horribly wrong assessment. A lot of obscure bands around mid-80s had this kind of heavy pinch sounds that u talked about, a lot of well-known bands had that until the second albums came around and that part got real polished (the sounds were still heavy but didn't have this kind of distortion). That's usually what happened.
Also, only "You Don't Know It" and "Stage Free" I can reliably call are speed metal tunes, the rest are rockers with charmingly thrashy riffs. This album is a classic 80s heavy metal album from the gutters. A great one at that.
