There's no fun done this way. I remember doing it the intended way as a kid. A pain in the ass but it was worth it.

As if the fight is any fun to begin with. If you ask me, I'd rather not waste 10-15 minutes on a monotonous damage sponge that can kill me in seconds if I'm not careful, therefore wasting the time I put in said attempt. So the fact that this exists is very good to me.

No. That's just how I see poorly designed bosses in general. Mysterious Figure in Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep, Yiazmat in Final Fantasy 12, This boss in this otherwise fantastic game. All of which either LIMIT your options so greatly that the only way you can realistically do this fight is with either cheap tactics, or a really specific, really not fun to execute strategy that works well enought, but would make the fight insufferable in the process, since everything else gets you killed (Mysterious Figure), or take hours to beat because they have a ton of health AND can insta-kill you (Yiazmat), or are straight up BOTH AT THE SAME TIME like with this fight. Sure it's "satisfying" to kill him the way the devs intended you to, but if the process is so monotonous and boring, on top of being stressful as all hell, then the death of the boss will feel less like "Hurray! I beat this boss in this game, it was a lot of fun and I'm looking forward to it on my second playthrough" And more like "Thank fucking CHRIST it's over at LAST, I never want to do that EVER AGAIN!" Which is probably what you actually felt at the time when you first beat this boss if you were a sane human being (unless you actually felt joy instead of exhaustion after the fight, in which case, good on you).
Now, I oughta clarify something. I don't actually hate bosses that change up the gameplay for their fights (hell, one of my favorite final bosses does exactly that, a.k.a Star Dream). I just hate that they overstay their welcome without being interesting throughout, which is what this fight does for me. Your just blasting this giant robot for 10-15 minutes while his adds come in and try and stop you in the most pathetic fashion possible. And if you try to interact with him in a more fun and fulfilling way, chances are you're gonna get smushed for trying (takes just as long as shooting him in the turrets so its emensly more risky with no reward in return for your bravery). And then you get to shooting him in the turrets and it becomes the most agonizing R&C boss in history because it takes soo loong without actually changing at all throughout the entire fight unlike most R&C bosses who either just fold after getting shot a couple of times like most of the bosses in this game and in R&C 3 aside from Courtney Gears and Nefarious, or are the rare few who put up absolutely great fights and actually change their strategies frequently like with most of the final bosses in this series (don't know about Rift Apart since I haven't seen any gameplay for that fight due to spoilers). This fight really does just boil down to shoot the big robot and whatever comes at you and maybe move between turrets if the one you're on is about to be shot down. For again, 10-15 minutes, with nothing really happening in between.
I wish to see developers react to these kinds of glitches, not only for the technicalities behind it, but the reactions

Thaaankk youuuuu. This boss destroyed my childhood and ratchet an clank run.
Like someone already pointed out in the comments, sometimes you need to shoot him once after the cutscene or wrench swing him before, maybe a bug or a version problem
I remember struggling so bad w that bridge full of tanks. Eventually I thinned them out w the visibomb gun until I could go across with the Vaporizer and Mini Nuke
That was the exact start I used my first playthrough
this could have been the coolest boss ever if normal weapons were a normal and effective way to kill him

It is actually but its really hard to lower his healt, but if you have a T.A.U.N II you can accelerate the process a bit
They deal damage to him but you must aim to the head, but is so hard to shoot him, it makes it useless.

When I saw the thumbnail, I thought "There aren't any bad bosses in the R&C series!" and then I watched the video and was like "Oh yeah, that one."

For anyone trying it, YOU HAVE TO DO IT BEFORE YOUR FIRST ENCOUNTER WITH THE BOSS, if you die and respawn to try it it won't work, that boss had so much potential tbh but ended up being a boring and painfull 20 minutes of very slow paced and easy combat
I always hid from him and used the upgraded spider robot to shoot him with that little turret on its back. :D Takes a few minutes though

All you really need is the Heavy bouncer and RYNO II to kill this boss.
I just use the heavy bouncer on his ankles until he dies
You can also do this after triggering the fight by charging booting across the right side of the outside walls where those big pipes are. just go around to the fenced in area, avoid any cutscene triggers, and traverse the area to get to him. Also you have to kill the sheep to kill the boss.
My way (not exactly recommended).
- Grind bolts using the Nuke trick on Gorn (at start of the 1st mission, shoot the nuke at the building in front of you, instantly vaporizing 97-100% of the enemy ships).
- Buy the RYNO II.
- Unload on the boss, pretty much killing it (or getting close enough where it can be finished off with your other weapons).
I tried it for the first time just now. It took me a bit to get the positioning right but it worked and I laughed hard at the end. 😂
Funny enough this guys weakness is the pipes for his mid section and the death animation proves it

I remember hiding around a corner as a kid and just spamming spider tanks to shoot their bombs at his feet, took some time, but i didn't have to deal with his dumbass
When I was a kid I remember throwing spiders up and slowly chunking him. I always thought that was the way to beat it

ngl, i managed to do it, but before i realized it was succesful i thought i didn't because the cutscene played and the robot was very alive, however shooting it once destroyed it after a delay without even watching the mini cutscene when it's destroyed so i was very confused

The difficulty spike and obvious signs of rushed development cannot be understated

If you've already opened the gates just use the charge boots to fly around the side over the sewer pipes and walk into the city, you have to use the middle street to approach bc the front and back will trigger the cutscene then simply sheep the dude and kill the sheep and start the cutscene

This boss is the worst. I remember I got him down to 1% health and ended up dying and had to start the whole thing again.

There's another way to get over to him, but I can't for the life of me remember it. This is probably an easier method though, to be honest
You can wrench climb up in 1st person mode if NG+ (iirc you don't get 1st person mode until then), maybe thinking of that?

Actually, you can more easily beat it on the ground by using your most powerful weapons in your arsenal, but I wouldn't say it sucks.
I killed him in like 5 minutes or less using normal weapons, the turret is completely optional.

This trick to defeat the boss immediately is very useful, however, I don't think I will use it, because this is the last appearance of the Tughs-4-Less boss and I want to defeat him in the most satisfying way possible, i.e. the old-fashioned way, by filling him with blows.

This boss is just one of several reasons why Ratchet and Clank 2's appeal is pure nostalgia goggles. 3 and especially 1 are better.
