In Genesis 28, the Bible narrates Jacob's vision of a ladder during his journey to Paddan-Aram, following his deception of Isaac and the acquisition of Esau's blessing. Fearing Esau's wrath, Jacob was en route to his uncle Laban's house in Paddan-Aram when he stopped for the night, using a stone as a headrest.
In a dream, Jacob saw a ladder reaching from earth to heaven, with angels ascending and descending. God appeared beside Jacob, promising the land to his descendants, who would spread across the earth, blessing all peoples. God assured His constant presence and protection. Upon waking, Jacob recognized God's presence, declaring the place as the house of God, the gate of heaven. He set up the stone as a pillar, consecrating it at what was revealed as Luz, later renamed Bethel by Jacob, meaning "house of God".
Jacob's ladder symbolizes God's assurance and presence in difficult times. Fleeing from his brother and facing exploitation by his uncle, Jacob was reassured of God's care. The vision, later linked to Jesus Christ in the New Testament, signified Jesus as the mediator between God and humanity.
Jacob's vision teaches important lessons: God's fulfillment of His purpose despite human failures, His involvement in earthly affairs, the reality that serving God doesn't guarantee an easy life, and that divine, not human, initiative connects heaven and earth. This vision typifies Christ, who connects God and humanity, making believers the dwelling place of the Holy Spirit.

I believe the vision was related to our resurrection. Remember In 1Cor 15 Paul explains how we will rise immediately at physical death in our new spiritual bodies to be with the LORD. And also that we will not marry but will be like the angels. I believe that true believers are given jobs to do on earth until all things are fully manifested in the earth. And also we should be cognizant of helping strangers because we may be encountering an angel (messenger). So the Jacobs ladder is people coming and going with their job commands just like the angels ministered to Jesus in the garden of Gastheme when he was fighting to do the Fathers will not his own will. As Jacob had a similar battle as well.
I also think that this is what was meant by us "ruling and reining'" for 1k (+) years. Its referring to those believers who have already passed on and rule with and by the spirit until all things are put under our feet. This is just my working theory at the moment. 😊
