  • This is the professional, step-by-step way to a make a vulcanized rubber mold for a gold eternity ring.
The level of skill used by independent jeweler Gaston Rives in cutting the mold is no less than astronomical...a true feast for the eyes! It is a akin to the shaping of a beautiful sculpture by a master artist.
To make the mold, Gaston uses a rectangular aluminum frame, stacked sheets of Castaldo natural rubber (due to it's high consistency), and a metal mold of the actual eternity ring.
After the rubber is compressed (with the metal ring inside) and cooked in a vulcanizer for one hour, it is cut with extreme care to separate it from the ring and prepare it for the wax injection. The resulting wax mold of the ring can subsequently be used to cast a beautiful eternity ring out out of any metal (the topic of a future video).

Will the final piece be the exact same size as the original? Or is there some shrinkage?

Seemed amazingly intrecate to make one ring, but that rubber mould will bbe made to make multiple wax versions of the original ring. I assume that this is disposable and melts when moulten gold is poured into a sand mould. I have a couple of technical words that I think are related, like die as in die cast and former.
It makes you wonder how they originally dreamt up this manufacturing process. You have to be impressed with the ingenuity. I'm always impressed with the early physicists who formulated the movement of the planets around the sun and the precisely timed astronomical events. Would like to see the finished article. Is Carlos a trained jeweller or a businessman with a watch and jewelry business?

      @Crmjewelers  Před 3 lety +1

Yes Andrew, the wax mold melts away when the molten metal is poured into the mold. We'll cover that part on another video. Carlos is an entrepreneur and the face and founder of CRM Jewelers. He talks a bit about his history in the CRM family video we released in April of May of this year.

@@andrewholt3849 Indeed Andrew. I've watched this video before. We've wanted to make a modern video on the gold refining process, but these places are typically very secretive and ridden with mystery. One day perhaps 🤷

    • @andrewholt3849

There are quite a few that played after that. They have to use Chlorine gas to remove impurites as I remember it is highly reactive, but Gold is very stable and unreactive, why it doesn't oxidise and is better than 904L steel. I have another video abbout Gold from the BBC, which I put on my Instagram about the Bank of England Gold store as it's all related to economics and maintaining the value of currency. Apparently we in the UK sold off a lot of our Gold reserves and the Bank of England acts as a repository for other countries' Gold and refused to return it to a South American Oil producing country, probably Venezuela.

I’m starting a jewels shop and still amateur .
Could you if there is a possibility make a video how to cut and why you cut in that way. This video seemed was little fast 🙈..
Like this ring you cut out , you cut around and cut out some part of the mold, when I watch other videos of other channels the dived the mold into two, but you dived into many parts .
Sorry for the long question best regards and have it best! ❤️ sincerely

You could explain what exactly vulcanised rubber is? I know it is used in the highest quality ruber watch straps like on the AP ROO 44mm.

Hi Andrew Vulcanize rubber is the one you have to cook , in this case when you vulcanize the rubber layers together it becomes one solid piece of rubber and then you cut it to get the piece out and make sure when you inject the wax , it comes out good the piece you’re duplicating

@@gastonrives3392 Thanks, I was really referring to the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore 44mm straps as I originally followed CRM regarding watches and is where, about 2015/16 I first saw AP ROO 44mm and 42mm. Their straps are top quality vulcanised rubber. When I have looked into it it mentions Sulphur is incorporated into the rubber in some way to make it higher quality and harder wearing.
