    Cardoso has to be the break out USMNT player of the year. I didn't rate him based on any of his play with the team or the limited amount of his play in the Brasiliero I'd seen.
    But starting every game in La Liga is a statement. And the fact that unlike LDT, he's actually thriving means he's probably the player who most needs to get integrated with the rest of the team.

  • @keeperman4

    I'm so sad Tyler Adams is hurt so often. The fact that the USMNT is now two guys deep at each, playing in Europe, at every position is huge. I've been skeptical of Johnny but this video opened my eyes. Thanks for helping me come around on him, Jake.

      Johnny has come a long way. He's not perfect and Adams is a singular player for us but we're in a lot better spot in terms of a backup than we have been.

    Been super impressed with Johnny this year. We need to see his club success translate to the usmnt. Something that's always hard to read are how the players interact with one another when they come together to play. From what I understand one of the only, imo, redeeming qualities about Berhalter is he seems to be a players coach and the locker room are pretty together. Having said that it seems Johnny is a little hesitant when playing for the US because, imo, he isn't apart of the core group. imo the core are the obvious. Adams, Pulisic, Mckinney, Jedi, and Ream. Probably missing one or 2 guys. I hope to see Johnny get comfortable because once he does, he can be a major player for the US imo.

    I think Johnny has more tools than Tyler and would probably start over him except for the fact that Adams is the captain of the Nats. Tyler's problem is he's done at age 25 because he jumped for EPL $ too soon and the league broke him down. He'll miss 5 years off his career because of injuries. But he got bad advice, like most Americans do.

  • @davidvandruff9368
    @davidvandruff9368 Před měsícem +3

    Great stuff Jake! So I like many am a big Adams fan. But as I've watched more and more of Johnny really like his style of play better than Tylers. There's no question Adams can make a huge difference but I just feel like Johnny is more the complete player, meaning both on defense and offense. Don't get me wrong, I'm not pitching Adams out for Johnny but this kid can make a difference on both sides of the field. Even if Adams were to come back fully fit, I really think Johnny might be the safer option. Your thoughts?

    • @ItsCalledSoccer
      @ItsCalledSoccer  Před měsícem +2

      I just think they're different players. Johnny is probably a defensive-minded 8 while Tyler is a pure destroyer 6. Tyler Adams is singular in what he can do but like I said in the beginning we can't trust him to be available.

    Jake, Johnny Cardoso plays as an 8, and Marc Roca plays as the defensive midfielder. On the official roster, Cardoso is listed as a center midfielder, whereas Marc Roca is listed as a defensive midfielder. It's also listed the same in Marca.

    • @donviajero2580
      @donviajero2580 Před měsícem

      They are listed that way, but from what I've seen of Betis this season, they do usually play a double pivot.

  • @Wyant1
    @Wyant1 Před měsícem

    If Adams is fit, regardless of form, I think he's at least earned the first chance at failure during the Copa. Personally, at this stage of their careers, 22 and 25 years of age, I think Johnny might actually have more long-term upside, more so if Adams is unable to stay fit. But, Adams is the first guy to emerge as a step above the rest as the defensive midfielder. Remember when we were rolling out Trapp and Bradley? And people say Berhalter hasn't improved. To them, I say "Ha!" Seriously though, what Johnny is doing right now is pretty freaking incredible, particularly for a USMNT player. We usually kind of get one or two of these guys per year now, right, like a true break-out player. First Pulisic, then McKennie/Adams, then Weah/Musah, then Balogun/Reyna (and Dest in there). If Johnny can be one of the guys that gains some global notoriety this year, that would be great. Keep going!
    To take it a step further, why not employ our own double pivot, assuming Adams is healthy? Reyna up top behind Balogun. Pulisic on the left and your flavor of the month on the left. Greg gets to keep his security blanket, build out of the back ideals, and it would probably make the team pretty darn deadly in transition or counter-attacks, if Greg was willing to unleash them that way rather than just always and forever continuously slow-playing with possession.
