I see so many people whining about players getting away with cheap shots. Let me get one thing straight: dirty plays are part of the game, they are what make ice hockey beautiful and fun to watch. This is how hockey should be played, it is extremely pleasurable watching players hunt each other down and make violent attacks to their advantage. If you can’t appreciate the dirty play that happens in hockey, you are simply not a fan of the sport.

A local New York singer named Mary O'Dowd butchered O Canada prior to a game between the Blue Jays and Yankees at Yankee Stadium on Sept. 14, 1985. The crowd had the decency to boo. It was televised on CBC, and I wish someone would post the video.
Twice within a few weeks at Edmonton Eskimos' home games in 1996, O Canada was butchered by different singers, crossing national and racial lines. The first was a black American who was visiting the city and conned the team into allowing him to sing the anthem, and the second was a local white kid who had apparently never sung in front of a big crowd before. Both provided evidence for my argument that the tradition, adopted as a temporary measure at baseball games in the U.S. during World War I, should be abandoned.
