one of the few episodes that tried hard to show Rodimus prime in a good light and portray him in a way that was similar to how Optimus was. Caring and father like.
it's also nice that they tried to remind fans that Rodimus and Daniel are close friends even after he stopped being Hot Rod, Daniel dreaming about Rodimus being there for him is like a kid imagining their older sibling being there to protect them
He stopped being Hot Rod, but he never stopped being his friend. 👏
Yeah. This episode was one of Rodimus' highlights. Wish we could have had more moments like this.
*brother like
if Optimus prime is like a father , then rodimus prime would be something close to a son to Optimus prime ,
The Way Daniel was when Optimus prime died is like a grandson seeing a wise grandfather passing on.
Big brother like would be a fitting role to have given him. The next up in the family house hold. Still young and unsure?
"You're the man of the house for a while" kind of thing you hear when your parents leave with your siblings?
Maybe that's what they intended?
I think the princess was a mix of Arcee and Carly in Daniel's mind. Arcee really should have been in this episode since she is so close to Daniel.
Wheelie is close to Daniel too.
i never understood why the danny thing it sounds weird.
So true! I'm surprised she wasn't in this episode considering how close they were in the movie and beyond.
I didn't even think of Arcee. I always saw the princess as being his mother, Carly
And grimlock!
I loved Razorclaw's jerkiness in the episode. 😆 Rodimus sure knows a lot about humanity's pop culture stories, and it was a good thing too!
Right 👍👍
Well.the autobots in previous seasons spent lots of time watching TV and plus they had the best human allies to help.them out
Spike- We didn't know what to do about the nightmares.
Me- Here's a thought. Sit down with him. Talk to him and find out what the nightmare was about.
That nightmare was WAY too intense to be natural, the Quintessons were causing it.
If I spent my childhood seeing giant robots shoot each other I would have nightmares too
Daniel seen a giant eating planet transform and die than he seen an insane decepticon leader, he heard tales of starscream ghost then he became binary bonded and transformed into the head of his robot nanny and he wasn't even in high school
@@jonathanpowell613 That shouldn't stop Spike from doing his job as a father. He should still talk to Daniel about his nightmares and guide him through them.
I agree!
This is the first TF episode I ever saw, so I have a lot of nostalgia for it.
You saw a fever dream as your first G1 experience lol
@@I_want_White_Cheddar_Popcorn True. The next episodes were "The Return of Optimus Prime" and "Rebirth", so I saw the end of the show before everything else. But I still loved it as a kid, and I still do. :)
Same on vhs tape this and headmasters
2:57
“Predaking has the power, he needs nothing more.”
(EDIT: he needs the touch.)
It was so funny with Rodimus just walking in after Daniel woke up from a nightmare.
[5:34] "Grrr. You're making me sick, Autobot."
Natural side effects of Autobot friendship may include chivalry; nausea; prompt, inexplicable butt-clenching; and acts of machismo.
This episode reminds me of Lost Light except that in that the bots are trapped in their own dreams and memories rather than someone else’s because it’s an optimized user experience.🤖
This episode is kinda dark with the Quintissons kidnapping Daniel and experimenting on him. I also like the colour scheme and designs here. Sadly it seems there were budget issues but it’s still not an awful episode.
Loved seeing Predaking in this episode. From what I hear, other than Devastator, Predaking is definitely in the top 3 combiners in the UK
I think it's actually a good episode with some good animation.
Kinda makes you think of human experimentation, shock treatment intention and astro projection.
I agree. It's not worthy of its poor reputation. -- A.T.
@@c.glazercrush3994 More then You would ever know.
I don’t know what’s crazier that they’re all trapped in Danny’s nightmares with some fairy tale references or they’re actually somewhat cooperating with each other. This episodes crazy but that’s why I love it!
Now how on earth was Rodimis Prime able to fit in Danny's room at the end of the episode 😳
good question.
Maybe there was enough room for Rodimus to fit in? Who knows?
There are giant doors.
Apparently transformers have the ability to change their size, as well as transform. For example Megatron turns into a gun, but is also able to reduce his size so that he can be wielded like any other gun.
@@Aurochhunter I remember that. Transformers can literally defy the laws of physics. Amazing if you ask me.
I'm surprised a Decepticon would be interested by the promise of gold...
Very useful in electronics.
Swindle would have sold it for a heavy profit
Also useful for bartering with alien species.
Anything that represents assets, worth, or power should be of interest to a true Decepticon.
Hey, energon ain't cheap.
6:26 Rodimus has obviously seen "The Wizard of Oz".
This episode is written by Beth Bornstein, she recently wrote season 2 episodes "The Search For Alpha Trion" and "Child's Play".
When the princess said it didn't matter where they were, that should have been Springer's first clue that something was wrong.
14:22 I see that even back then in the 80s a mention of ethics in human subject research was in order.
Way to go Transformers! There never rose a cartoon series quite like it!
Ahh the sleep paralysis episode. Very scary. Would have been better if Daniel himself fought the monsters. He did save dad in the movie so he is capable of doing heroic stuff.
I had 1 episode of transformers on VHS as a child, and it had to be this one.
Ouch, I feel bad for you.
The only thing I kind of enjoy in this episode is that the individual Predacons get a few lines of dialogue and some screentime and Springer with a lance riding Razorclaw. One of my least favourite episodes.
1:12 this is so cute that Rodimus wants to comfort Daniel.❤
Nightmare Planet was another episode that i have a lot of fond memories watching on VHS and it was certainly one of the most emotional of the 3rd season, the concept of the Quintessons experimenting on Daniel and using his nightmares against the Autobots to destroy them was very twisted. I loved the role that Rodimus Prime played in this one and it was good to see him still having that 'brotherly' relationship with Daniel that he had when he was Hot Rod. I quite liked that the Autobots and the Predacons had to work together just to survive especially when they were already in battle with each other. The highlight of the episode for me was when the giant Galvatron and Rodimus did battle in the funhouse. The little moment where Rodimus gives Daniel a little smile after not having to worry about the scary monsters was a nice ending.
Galvatron is definitely a threat on par with a Jack-in-the-box clown and the Wicked Witch of the West.
Interesting how there were TWO "From the Secret Files of Teletraan II" tacked on to the end of this episode?
That and the whole episode being a dream is just strange.
Probably to pad the time to the required 22 minutes
@@SJHFoto LOL
This was a pretty deep episode, just like our minds and how our dreams can't feel so real ... One of my favorites !
Also, I noticed a few spots in this episode where Rodimus' eyes are red.
Rodimus low-key going crazy inside Daniel's nightmare.
Some scenes have incredible animation then others I’m like who the hell drew this.
The giant finds metal robots “tasty?” 🤣
Rich in iron
@@CryosisOfficial Literally…
Man this was the first episode I ever watched of this series. The part that really brings it back for me is the autobot/decepticon badge when they go to the next scene and the little “duh duh duh duh…..duh”
6:00 so literally Rodimus has *RED* eyes.
Possible dream effect to argue against animation error. Or Unicron singularity effect.
I wished they used Unicron in the dream. Would have been more frightening!
I agree.
Though Daniel most likely never even saw Unicron
@@IndominusGojira Actually, he did. Towards the end of the animated movie before the rest of the group got lost inside Unicron's body.
@@MatthewTheWolf2029 Oh
Springer's humor at 16:57 always made me laugh so hard.🤣😂
He's not wrong though
Springer always had the best lines!!
That's why he's my favourite Autobot!
Razorclaw was just as funny “grr be careful springer” lol
@@Makeitso2023 best line of any transformer in any series ever
This was one of the best animations growing up!
6:12 I think rodimus was watching the wizard of oz with wreck-gar
Seems Beth Bornstein had seen Nightmare on Elm Street one too many times.
HEY DO u mind explaining a little? Thank You
RIP Jack Angel.
11:21
Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaahh...
(poor divebomb)
Razorclaw was great in this.
Say what you will about Rodimus. But I think he makes a good big brother figure for Daniel.
I 100% agree.
Ah, yes, the episode where Rodimus Prime's Optics turned into Red and Blue everytime he appears ON screen.
2:45 a werewolf, a demon, and Frankenstein's monster. Oh, and I saw Dracula in one shot!
Springer doesn't need gold but Razorclaw LMAO he want's gold I like how Predaking is in the Transfomers Prime series doesn't need to combine with anyone he's just a dragon.
Love the Predacons. They make the best combining fighter.
What bugs me is that Galvatron already was a giant to Daniel; how would making him bigger be scary? He's scary enough!
Love how Rodimus decks that clown
I just realizd Beth Bornstein wrote two of my favorite episodes: Child's Play and Nightmare Planet. Child's Play was innocent fun, where I thought Nightmare Planet was a darker showing.
This episode is so awesome. I don't remember watching this when I was a kid.
Was anyone else aware this first aired on Halloween?
Had this on vhs as a kid. 1st introduction to predaking, loved it.
Razorclaw: But the battle between the Predacons and Autobots continue, in 2001!
Second to Devastator, Prediking kick @$$!!!
4:34 It sounded like the dragon was singing 😆
he literally says "blaaa bla bla"
Springer is a Wrecker. He can handle anything!
i love the transformers
This is just like that episode of gi joe where the joes kept having nightmares and it was up to lowlight to save the day.
Woah, Razorclaw just referenced the Covid-19 predicament at 4:42 and told Springer to keep his distance from him. He's a smart lion.🦁
No, just the Autobot/Decepticon rivalry.
Just a feral cat
The Razors edge.. we live in The past.
My first Transformers episode, the first one I ever saw and it was part of a VHS colection
"Get him, Rodimus!" I think he means "Get him, Giant Me!"
- At the beginning of Transformers: The Movie, Hot Rod refers to Daniel as "Danno". After that he's pretty consistently "Daniel"... until suddenly in this episode, everyone is suddenly calling him "Danny".
- Rodimus: "Hold on Headstrong, he's not the real thing... look how big he is!" Headstrong (in my mind): "Oh, damn, I thought that was just one of the countless size discrepancies in this series!" 😆
- Why does Razorclaw care about gold?
- The number of times they mistakenly color Rodimus Prime's eyes red becomes truly distracting.
- At 9:21, Springer says he has a plan to escape, and asks for Razorclaw's help. Then it cuts away. Then by the time it gets back to Springer and Razorclaw, they've already escaped, have found the hidden magic lance, and are fighting the dragon. Then, at the end of the episode, it apparently ran so short that there are 2 "Secret Files Of Teletraan II" tacked on. This kinda suggests they ran out of either money or time when animating this episode, and just never got around to making that sequence. 😁
Some of the choppy animation reminded me of Chargeman Ken. I laughed more than anything.
Dang ….Daniel threw everything at them
“My son is having a recurring nightmare about giant robots. I’d better send a giant robot to his room to comfort him.”
The giant robot he’s dreaming about? A fucking enemy. The giant robot comforting him? One of his few friends.
LOL@ the magic ball attack on the predacons.
"You can't get away, Danny! I've got you!"
😈😈😈😈😈
4:23 "at last we printed songs will be victorious"
*Quintessans
Wasaaitsminute. The witch... That voice line came straight from Voltron
When I was a kindergarten Kid, G1 series aired in a new TV channel that showed up in my country. My Dad recorded this for me on our VCR and thus I watched the episodes numerous times :) So when I saw "Nightmare planet" I knew exactly what it will be, despite not watching this for nearly 30 years :) good times :) Anyway, is the voice actor for Springer the same as for Ace McCloud from Centurions?
Yes
That’s a cool memory
This episode had some good animation
13:05 again, Rodimus' has red eyes.
Where are you when we need you, Andre The Giant?
13:40 so, the stabbing scene is cut here. I wish it was to be shown.
Used to have this on vhs, now watching it for the first time in over 30 years
This is the one where the new ost themes premiered!
Flint Dille one of the writers in an interview said they wanted to make season 3 more "edgy" for the 10 - 12 yr old demographic. While Go Bots were for 5 yr olds. The music was awsome
If only zombie optimus was included in daniel's nightmare
And Rodimus’ weird quote in “Return of Optimus Prime Part 2”
@@kdcwilliams1839 what did he say?
The autobots definitely got supernatural help, the princess representing Daniels mother was no doubt his guardian angel in disguise who could speak to him directly in his unconscious state and whose words cut razorclaw to his core that caused him help springer.
arcee even in transformers prime Acts like a robot mom to the teenage human.
because she is very motherly.
This is probably the most characterization the OG predacons ever got. Especially Razorclaw.
What were the Quintessons trying to get out of daniels mind to do what with the information that would get them back to cybertron? They were doing experimentals on daniel because of a reason to get back to cybertron but not sure what is was
I have the feeling that the witch and those other monsters were working for the giant galvatron.
This episode taught me that if for nothing else, Daniel has one really F***ed up mind. I think I also seem to recall this episode aired on Halloween day, 1986.
WHY IS RODIMUS WATHCING DANNY SLEEP?
Because Spike asked him to. Which isn't helping things, to be honest. It's still a little weird. XD
@@ShanaReviews I know. This is what the episode itself is going for. Perceptions of this sort of thing have certainly changed since the 80s, though.
Because the catholic priest told him to.
This whole episode revolves around a child's battle-inspired ptsd night terrors? 🤣
The 80s were wild!
Yes you ever seen firestarter, and creep show
Rodimus with red optics? Woah
Be careful, Springerrrrr!
This episode is just hilarious. I like the mix the three Autobots and the Predicons.
Emotionless yes right, how come they've feeling for each other and all life.
Quintesson are truly the main antagonist of the transformers universe
11:36
Is it me or does Galvatron sound exactly like Megatron?
Frank Welker played both
@@chrisedwards3214 I know he does but their voices are different sounding compared to each other.
Yeah, that's exactly what I noticed. It made me laugh my ass off even more. Especially when Galvatron haunts Danny's Nightmares. Hell, Imagine if Starscream haunted Galvatron, it'll be even more hilarious.
Nice script for the predacons making them the most rude decepticon.. but the dinobots could always trample them..hehe..Onetime good old grimlock single handedly torched them with a single blow of napalm fire
Madam Mim isn't going to be too happy about that pink dragon.
It's two block the dark powers from getting my world and life! It's evil on androids also!
5:58 Rodimus Prime had res eyes
Love it how Cyclonus can't retain his accent or pitch
Accurate representation of my fever dream
How did Rodimus, Springer, Ultra Magnus, and the predacons get inside Danny's mind in the first place.
I thought the princess was Carly (Daniel's mom)
17:25 Let's Get the Heck out of Here.
17:59 Just a lucky guess (lol).
Looks like Springer is in love.
Autobots always fallen for cute girls
I remember this episode by heart.
Galvatron: Gigadynamax!!!
