As a retired vet of 24yrs I love and appreciate all my guard and reserve vet brother and sisters in arms. That is way we are the strongest military on the planet. You aren't forced to serve but you are willing and you know at moments notice you could be asked to drop everything for your country! Apparently, Walz could have retired at 20 years of service, which most do, but instead, he stayed for another 4 years and retired in his 40s to run for Governor. Because of his high ranking, even if he had gone to Iraq, he would not have seen battle, but instead would have been someone officers reported to. Those in the military know how this works, and understand how disgusting and unpatriotic these lies are from JD Vance and Trump. It's not going to work. It will backfire.
He retired to run for congress, not Governor. But yes he had a campaign already up and running in March of 2005 which was a full YEAR before his unit deployed in March of 2006. He Retired in May of 2005 and his unit didn't get mobilization orders unitl October of 2005.
This is all complete and utter Bullshit. Especially after 24 years of service. JD Vance didn't even re-up once after his 4 years were through. Did he abandon HIS unit? NO! That's not how this works.

Everything you said is correct. He stayed in an additional 4 years after he could have retired and he was at 20 years when 9/11 hit and deployments were a very likely scenario. After you hit 20 years, you can decide to drop retirement paperwork whenever you like.

the thing about the National Guard is that they were never meant to be deployed abroad. They stay here and protect the Nation. It's only because of such a low number of soldiers in the US that they would even send ..some of the National Guard.

When my son retired from Marine Corps after 25 yrs. It took nearly 6 mos. from the time he submitted his paperwork. I thank Tim Walz for his service and I commend him for the exceptional job he did. National guard should not have been deployed to Iraq in first place!

After 24 years in service (in which he could have retired at 20 years)... NO ONE in their right mind and sound judgment would choose to go to war while retirement is an option... especially, when they have a political career waiting for them. It's easy to go to war when you're youthful and in your top physical shape... it's not so easy to go fighting when you're older and not in tip top shape as when you first enlisted. He enlisted when he was 17, after 24 years in... he must be 41 when he decides to retire. See what I mean?
Anyway, Tim Walz served his nation and he is entitled to do whatever he wants after... as long as it's legal and adheres to the rules and regulations of the military.
