What’s your opinion of .260 vs creedmoor in a ar-10? I used to shoot PRS comps with a .260 now i traded the 700 in for a ar-10 . Just curious on your experience
@@thomasshoe92 I was juggling between the 3 options at the time, namely .260 Rem, 6.5x47 Lapua, and the then-new 6.5 Creedmoor. .260 Rem was popular among long range shooters in the 2000s, but I was mainly concerned with brass availability and quality. Availability at the time leaned towards .260 Rem if you necked-down strong .308 or 7mm-08 brass, while 6.5x47L had SRP Lapua brass with one source. 6.5CM was almost non-existent, wasn't sure if it would fly-by-night like a fad. .260 Rem has an advantage in extreme cold for a gas gun because of propellant volume driving the gas port, whereas 6.5CM can whimper-out, especially if you use an ELGS vs RLGS. Now that Lapua brass is available for both, it then goes down to if you want factory ammo support, which favors 6.5CM dramatically. Looking back, I think I would have gone 6.5CM due to the factory ammo support avalanche that came after, but not all of those loads run well in gas guns. In the AR-10, your brass really takes a beating if you want the performance of any of the 6.5-08 class of rifles. I would spent $1/piece of brass, only for it to last 3-4 firings, which really sucks after you do all that brass prep. I actually started shooting 6.5 Grendel more and more, and haven't shot the .260 Rem since maybe 2015. I now have 7x Grendels and shoot them every time I'm doing LR rifle work. I'll have to break out the .260 Rem sometime soon. It is a laser. I like shooting 130gr Bergers in it, super flat with minimal drift.

Another conversation just loaded with gold nuggets. One of my favorite interviews to date. Side Note: Completely agree on the ELR "World Record" nonsense. The only one I care about, is the one George talked about. You have to go 3 for 3 from a cold bore, on a 3ft square plate. I think the record currently is somewhere in the 2700-ish yards with a 33XC I believe. THAT is a record. Not this, shoot a hundred rounds to hit a plate the size of a shipping container. Who cares.
Had the honor of meeting George about 12 years ago through a good friend. GAP built me a couple rifles that I still own. Was able to shoot with him the first year K&M was open. So great to see his success.
The mystery box would of been a weather station if coming from drag racing, keeping records of weather conditions and track temperatures is a big part of tuning the car to be in the window and consistent

Erik you are doing a great job. I have 2 EC Tuner brakes and I’ll be buying more. I move them from gun to gun. My grandson just got his first hunting rifle. A Howa 6.5 PRC. Shoots just under 1 moa. He will be getting a tuner brake and and we will tune in my favorite load so it will shoot in his rifle. He’s dad is going to update his dads 30-06 with a new stock and an EC Tuner brake. We’ll end up 3 generations running your Tuner Brakes!! BTW, just did your cleaning w CLR and my barrel has never been cleaner and after a couple of fowling shots it grouped into under 1/2 moa. Took it out to 500 yards today and it was absolutely money. Factory B14 Bergara 6.5 PRC Thanks for all you do for the shooting community.
George Gardner is a gent. A number of years ago I was ripped of by a US gunsmith (I live in the UK). While having nothing to do in anyway with that Smith or the sale, George offered to build me a rifle FOC. This was pre PRS days so I am assuming his shop wasnt as big then so this was even more of a kind gesture. I met him at shot a few years later to shake his hand and thank him for the offer and he dismissed it as though it was the right thing to do. Great guy FYI I did not take up the offer as kind as it was, it was not fair for him to fix another crooks crimes.

Well I for one have a 'Crusader' that really is benchrest accurate. I bought it in 2010 and has since morphed into a 6.5x47l with a longer barrel and an EC Tuner Brake. Yup....1 1/2" group at a 1000y. If it wasn't for that pesky 5th shot it would have been smaller. When it was a .308...3/4" with Ultramax bulk ammo at 200y. 3/4" group at 300y with handloads. More recently my six-five just shot a 5 shot group at 100y that was .054. This one was with the tuner brake. All of this was done with a bipod and rear bag on a bench.
Really enjoyed this interview! You should do more precision manufactures. Would be interested to have someone from Berger or Lapua talk about there process.

Has anyone cryotreated a barrel to destress the steel after machining? I wonder if that would make the harmonics more consitant with a tuner given eviromental variables.
Listening to you guys talk about gunsmithing and ideas you want to try I’ve got one I would like someone to try if it hasn’t already been done. Since you guys are running CNC lathes for some stuff I would like to know if anyone has ever tried to form grind the chamber to finish size instead of reaming it, as a tool and die maker for 30 years I would think jig grinding a chamber would provide the ultimate in precision but it’s just a thought
I think on the barrel George is talking about was perfect but shot bad on one action great on another. Remember the Steel the barrel is made of and steel the action is made of is a bunch of different stuff that is thrown in big pot and melted. So down the barrel it can be less hard or less stiff or softer in areas. Same with actions. So that barrel soft spot could have matched soft spot with action. And when put that barrel in other action it could been harder we’re the barrel was soft so it helped it. And come on am not talking soft like u can tell by touch. Just realize guy making steel can throw in less by little bit of something one day or more of something that day. I think it’s why some barrels wear more than others cause how metal changes threw the barrel
I like the 28 PRC name! But then, I shoot a 28 Nosler. I would probably like the name 28 Wheeler better, just to get away from Hornady's "PRC" simply because they shined on the 28 Nosler guys.
When GA started, they were horrible but he was in good with frank at SH so he would purge all the negative GA post. I only know because when I was young I was a gun shop bum that would often clean GAs mess
Honestly, all this *TALK* about tuners is so redundant. I would love to see someone, anyone, prove that tuners work and provide *repeatable* results. Repeatable. I want to see someone take the tuner off, shoot a 5x5 round set, then put the tuner back on at its "best setting," shoot another 5x5 set, and simply prove once and for all that they really work. I can only think of one reason I haven't seen this test done by any pro-tuner shooter, and it's an unwillingness on their part to believe the target.
Whiplash I could do your test for you but you seem untrusting. Go buy a $15 limb saver tuner and try it. Even that cheap tuner works. That’s an inexpensive tuner. I use EC Tuner brakes on all my guns and they absolutely work. I reload. I get a load with good sd’s then I just tune it in. No seating depth test. Saves me money in components and my guns all shoot lights out. Don’t be a hater. Erik is the man. I just used his cleaning technique with CLR and that worked great too. Erik has never put out bad info.
@Bob McMillen I have an EC tuner myself, and when I go by Erik's recommended method of choosing a setting, it works. I get some very small groups. The problem I've had, though, is that those groups aren't repeatable, and I challenge you to try your tuner for repeatable small groups. When I did it, I just chocked up bad follow up groups to myself as a shooter, but after I read Bryan Litz' new book, in which he did extensive testing with tuners, I started feeling taking advantage of by Erik, because even Bryan, a world renowned shooter and ballistician, was unable to verify the effectiveness of tuners. If I consider Bryan's information, then Erik literally wasted my components and confidence as a shooter by making me think I was doing something wrong, all because his business literally depends on making sales. If you haven't read Bryan's latest book, I'll give you the quick summation of tuners; they don't work; they only make you THINK they work.
@@whiplash636 I’m not there to see what you’re doing. Tuners are not a set it and forget it. Temperature will effect how your gun shoots. Barrels hitting up. Hunting barrels don’t react like the barrels they use for F-class. I shoot 3 shot groups because I have sporter type hunting barrels. I can take my same loads, different days, different temps and tune that load in. You have every right to your opinions, I just know what I can do with my tuners. I can tell you that my nephew and I took his 25-06 with Corlok ammo ( only available ) shooting 3 inch groups and tune his rifle into 1/2 moa with a Limb Saver tuner no less. Ugliest thing that has ever been put on a barrel. It’s all about harmonics and getting them right for your barrel. He was amazed because he was used to hitting a paper plate at 100 yards and then going hunting. I taught him a little shooting technique, tuned his barrel ……a whole new world opened up to him as far as shooting goes.

George and Jeff built me 2 different AR-10s, one in .308, the other in .260 Rem that are lasers. George has always been a class act.

I was lucky and had them build my department issued sniper rifle. Absolutely tack driving rifle! Once it was all said and done, it was $9K

It has been done.
Precision, as I am learning, is all about eliminating variables. Precision shooting involves thousands of variables with every single shot.
A ton of knowledge in that guys head. Probably forgot more about precision rifle than most will ever know.
