  • Join me and three of my good friends as we thru-hike the Art Loeb Trail in November, 2018. This trail has a lot to offer with great views, some challenging climbs, and all sorts of different terrain. I highly recommend you check it out! This is part one of three backpacking videos as we head North, covering the trail from Davidson River Campground to the Daniel Boone boy scout camp.
The Art Loeb Trail is a 30.1-mile trail located in Pisgah National Forest in Western North Carolina. The northern terminus is at the Daniel Boone Boy Scout Camp in Haywood County, while the trail's southern terminus is located near the Davidson River Campground, near Brevard, in Transylvania County.
Bear Canisters are required for the section between the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Northern terminus. I used the BV450 and had plenty of room.

Water can be scarce in shining rock wilderness at certain times.
The trail is blazed except for the Shining Rock Wilderness area where it is easy to get lost, but that's half the fun!
Shuttle services are available from Asheville Airport Shuttle. Harry is a very nice guy and very dependable.

I hiked this with a few fraternity brothers back in the spring of 2019. It was a beautiful trail. We had some great memories!

We hiked this in July 2017 from Davidson River to Daniel Boone as well and found it to be very enjoyable. Some challenging climbs for sure! We did it with a group of Boy Scouts as a prep hike for a Philmont trip and found the terrain to be more challenging than ANYTHING we encountered at Philmont, other than the elevation. I will be going back in May, 2019 to run from Black Balsam to Davidson River, then shuttle over to Daniel Boone and hike back to car Black Balsam, and then out to Davidson River the third day.

The trail is marked and easy to follow on the southern portion. Its the Shinig Rock Wilderness section that is not marked and can get a little tricky. But thats part of the fun. You may want to get the anti gravity gear map ( link in description). I can also send you pics of the map that you can use on your phone. Im happy to answer any other questions you have.
