As a professional creative I would never settle for '5' skills. In theory you could have '2' skills but be an '8' marketing , social media genius. IMO there are a ton of 8+ social media geniuses on CZcams who are pretty poor photographers. I think the skill/talent should always be a higher number than the marketing/networking number.

I get this equation and I generally agree with it, but if your images are no good you eventually get found out. I know this first hand my images are good. I got no problem with saying that I've worked at my craft. I'm reasonably good at networking sometimes it is also where you live. I live in a small place where there is not a lot of opportunity to make money from Photography because there's a lot of other photographersSo I'm not worried about the money side of things as I have a good job but at the end of the day the image will sell at self if it is good.

I think in the modern scene a lot of work is gained through personal contacts, word of mouth. A great IG page really counts for nothing.

There are so many great photographers out there that are barely getting by, in todays world if you don’t engage in this social media BS you can be the greatest artist no matter the field and you get paid close to zero. Definitely. But I also happen to know someone who in their own words “has no idea how a camera even works” but had a photo featured on an apple billboard, as well as multiple magazine covers because of their insane network
