    In this small format and similar price range, the HoTone Ampero Stomp, HX Stomp and Headrush MX5 seem to stand out as some of the choices. I think the Headrush MX5 might be kind of underrated as an option?

      The desktop editor seems to be a pretty hotly discussed topic on the forum, seemingly met with radio silence by Headrush. It’s a real shame because it’s a great sounding unit, just missing what is industry standard functionality at this point 🤷🏼‍♂️

    Short answer is YES! Been a Helix user for a couple of years now and wanted something a little smaller. The MX5 is pretty dang impressive. The lack of videos on CZcams is kind of astounding. It's drawbacks are no desktop editor and lack of software support from Headrush. Those aren't small by any means, but the unit is still quite capable. But if the company sleeps on their own product, you can see the public kind of mirroring that. I wish Headrush would get with it. It's a great unit.

    MX5 owner here. I appreciate the content, thank you. The latest update drop was unexpected and welcomed. I think the new device they have cooking up (as hinted by Tracii Guns) is finally going to put the brand on the radar once it’s released. Their marketing is somewhat ‘meh’, as in they don’t really communicate to the customer base but hopefully that will change with the new release, because I really like the models.

      @@Mike-ng3zl Hey Mike. I still have it and I use it every now and then. My friend has GP200. It sounds good but I found the interface on MX5 better. If I was to buy a new unit of that form factor, I’d without hesitation go with HX Stomp, which I borrowed for a while to play with. I think I can get a usable tone quicker from MX5 than HX but once you have spent 10 or so minutes with the Line6 stuff, it just sounds a lot better. The available amount of content for Helix engines is just in a different league compared to Headrush. Units like Valeton GP200 will never receive the amount of updates the bigger brands do. Valeton/Hotone tend to release stuff, then just move on to he next piece of hardware.
      Not sure if that’s any helpful but I’d be cautious of getting Headrush or Valeton as the support is just not going to be there long term.

    • @nandy-ww8xj
      @nandy-ww8xj Před rokem

      @@Mike-ng3zlvery different, they play in different leagues. I have had gp200, good amp simulations, good overdrives but bad modulations, reverbs, delay. Mx5 has practically no dsp limitation, valeton is very limited in dsp, the effects chain is not very flexible and you can't repeat effects, with mx5 you can use 2 and up to 4 amps at a time and repeat effects as many times as you want. Also the looper and drum machine in gp200 are horrible. With Mx5 you have a 20-minute looper and you can also record your loopers.

    Compared to Hx Stomp ( or Hx effects) , things worth mentioning in another video:
    1. The Send-Return of the Hx are said to be noisy , what about the Mx5?
    2. Less models but more slots-blocks and I haven`t found anything about Mx5 coming short of DSP when using all those slots with whatever is available ( does it mean you can easily have 2 holds/freeze or more in the MX5?)
    3.What about the "quality" of the models, which one gets closer ( or better) to the modeled thing? for example: best Princeton Reverb
    4. As for the routing possibilities, are they the same in both systems?
    5.Having less models/effects, which ones do you miss most in the MX5 ( excluiding amps, cabs,distortions) , maybe poly shifting? Enough Delays and reverbs in the MX5 for an ambient player?
    Well, I think it is enough.
    Thanks for your videos.

    • @johnnathancordy
      @johnnathancordy  Před 3 měsíci

      I haven't compared them head to head on a lot of the things...
      In terms of models - I think the Headrush stuff - coming from Avid - is probably a little less "accurate" but probably close enough not to matter. Definitely way more DSP on the MX5 and seamless patch switching. Routing is similar I think, but more dsp on the MX5 means you get way more blocks. One area I didn't thing the Headrush shines is the reverbs - but they're totally functional!

    Interesting. I played thru an 11 rack and loved it and I'm wanting to get a modeling unit and this one is appealing for me. I live in high gain mostly and in plexi just breaking up. If the Amos are as good as everyone tellse them this thing is perfect for me. I also need a Micropitch and none of these except the really expensive modelers like the Almighty axeFx and such have this feature. I'm also looking at the Boss units because I like Boss stuff and if you've not played their hot blues amp or their Next time amps, you've not lived. Excellent feel and sound. Almost exactly like a tube amp. I'm 62 and grew up using a Fender twin and a rat pedal , as well as other tube amps like a Marshall Dual Super Lead, etc... I love tune amps, but any place I might gig usually now requires low volume or no stage volume at all... I'm ears, etc, and this would be great if it had XLR outs. I don't think it does...??
    Thanks so much...
    Great playing and good info for a video about this stuff. Appreciate it ❤

  • @haha-comedyhobosbridgend3535

    I've owned this pedal and have since upgraded to the core. Despite the age of the modelling technology, I think paired with some compression and subtle reverb tricks I've been able to achieve staggering openness and realism that I'm not really hearing on units from the big hitters even.
    As you mention, one thing you've mentioned that does let the Headrush range down and is a bone of contention on their forums, is a lack of desktop editor. I'm confident these units would find their way into more professionals hands if only Headrush met what is now, surely, an industry standard.
    Notwithstanding, would love to see you do a deep dive on the Prime or Core.

      I have virtually owned all of them (HX Stomp, GT1000Core, Ampero Stomp, Headrush, Headrush Gigboard, Helix… I think that’s all of them 😂. However, they really are all good. Each one offers a different experience. Headrush might be one of the most fun to own. Line 6 are the easiest to own and have the most support. Boss makes solid stuff too but least supported but as far as sound, they’re all the same. They all have that “digital fizz” on the top end that has to be EQ’d out. You could literally close your eyes, point and buy whatever one you end up on and get a playable sound.
