My family lived in Calella in the winter of1972/73. Back then it was a small quaint town, with the lighthouse, resort hotels and shops. The fishermen used to cast off from that beach, and horsedrawn carts went by in country lanes. From these videos I can see it has changed a lot since then as most places in the world. I love the people there as they showed a lot of love and friendship. Very nostalgic down memory lane.

I wish to pay a return visit as well, when I am not sure as we live in New Zealand far in the Pacific. Calella is a small and if you are out and about pay a visit to the Osiris Hotel ( I think it has been renamed, but the old name still survives ). We lived in that hotel the winter of 1972/73. Lovely place and lovely people.

Calella seems to have changed quite a bit over the years..... more hotel builds.... but i'll always remember the smell of the leather shops... the strawberry parlours …. and the amusement arcades... where I spent many, many hours! Melon sellers on the beach.... even armed police casually walking among the sun bathers! Happy days.....

In the early 70's there were some really nice, small size hotels but as we were leaving ( for Madrid ) a lot of taller, bigger hotels were being constructed. You know how it is the investors find an opportunity and they rush in. The beaches would get very crowded in the summer time, with tourists from northern Europe. There was one hotel called the Bon Repos, I remember. There were also a lot of Seat ( Spanish Fiats) on the roads and Pegaso and Edbro trucks. The armed police in long coats were the Guardia Civil ( Civil Guards ) which are the equivilant of the Italian Carabinieri and Germany's Gestapo. General Francisco Franco was the president and hailed from 1938 during the civil war.
As children, we used to hire bicycles for 25 pasetas per hour and ride off to Pineda, an adjoining township to the north. Looking at Calella now I think the two towns are amalgamated together. We made some really good friends while we were there, very nice people.
