- Yes, John is correct, we slowed the tape machine down to tune the tambourine. What can I say, I was driven to make this song extra-special. Stuart Hamm's bass playing is extra-special on this track too! #Flashback

One of the greatest guitar tracks and musical ideas of ALL TIME!!!! Bro was wayyy ahead of the curve🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Since the release, Flying in a blue dream is still my favorite album 🔥🎸🔥
His most insane of insanity
Mine too 🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽
These treasures should be released as bonus and/or DVDs...
i SAW, Stu Hamm.........at the '90, Flying in a Blue Dream show. he & Jonathan Mover were MEZMERIZING.....
I recall the story of Stu’s bass lines - maybe from Guitar World or Guitar for the Practicing Musician. Joe’s original groove wasn’t working and Stu improvised a different line at the end of a take. It caught Joe’s ear and they asked him to play it throughout the track, giving us the cool groove we now hear. I hope I remembered that accurately!
Bells of Lal part 2 is my favorite Joe tune.
In those days I discovered Joe Satriani and Steve Vai. In my daily car rides I listened hours and hours to albums like Not of this earth, Surfing with the alien and Flying in a blue dream. Great time and seems so long ago....
I lived the same life pal!!
Bells of Lal part 2 is one of my all time favorite Satch songs. I cannot tell you how many times I've played it on repeat (thousands) and inspired me to learn to play guitar. Thanks for posting ☮
I think this song needs more cowbell...
Me too a masterclass
it never gets old or loses its charm, this is when music was something special, such a masterpiece from another dimension
Yes, one of my favourites too, amazing groove
I can't even guess how much of my young life was spent playing air guitar to this. In my opinion, it is one (two) of the most smoking, adrenaline pumping tracks of all time.
I really tried to play these with my guitar, it's still fun to try
this is what out of this world creative music sounds like, such a masterpiece from another dimension
My all time favorite song by Satch. I remember asking Joe in Detroit on the Crystal tour if he ever played bells of Lal 2 live .He said" He did play it live and that his wife stills has the bells that she gave Joe .. The Bells of Lal went around the camels necks for good luck when they crossed the desert .
Ummm it doesn't have any singing. How can it be a song? If it's your favourite you should know it's a track not a song.
@@Me-qp8vz Joe's guitar sings! Everyone knows that.
Part 2 is one of my favorite songs of all time, not just one of my favorite Satriani songs. If I ever feel like I've listened to it too much, I clear my palette by listening to Time, off Crystal Planet. And then I go right back to Bells of Lal pt. 2.
Always an incredible jam. Haven’t tired of it since my 14th birthday, 1989 ;)
The bells are in E flat….amazing stuff❤
Greetings from India(Meghalaya)🇮🇳
Greetings to you as well, from NC, USA!👍🤟😎🔥💜🌍
What a gem, this video is. Bells of Lal is unequalled in it's ass kicking funkiness and cool as ice (9) grooving.
Stuuuuuuuuu! Strangely enough, very underrated by even some knowledgeable music fans.
One of the most underrated masterpieces of Joe's catalog! I would love to see both of these pieces played live some day!
Joe could have played this treeasure live when he was younger... but now, at 64? forget it...
@@blastingsoundwaves7491 I disagree, as long as he doesn't have any kind if arthritis in his hands then the hand muscles are the easiest to keep strong.
@FromTheHeartWoodMK ,Dude, I wish I could agree with you, but I just don't! When commenting on the creation of When Trees Walked the Earth, Satch says that after having set aside hammer-ons and pull-offs (his impeccable and fluid long legato lines) he comments that such abandoned techniques simply exploded into this solo (not forgetting to mention that these resources could cause damage to the joints, but I confess that there is nothing so scabrous compared to other things he has already done). So, it's no new that Satch already feels the weight of age. But I really don't care too much about it, I just made this outburst 'cos I love this theme so much and I've waited for years to see him play it live (but apparently I never will). Jus to be clear, this man has already conquered more than most. I wish a genius like him would live forever, but unfortunately this is not possible. Anyway, I'm already very happy for the last album, which exceeded my expectations (in terms of composition, he's simply unbeatable). Long live the best guitarist I've ever had the immense pleasure of listening... Satcha King!
So fantastic......newer fails to amaze me,since 1987
That groove at the end - the rhythm guitar, the bass and drums - perfect!
Nice that I stumbled onto this hidden gem. Love the "behind the scenes" recording scenes.
I'm distracted by that old H3000. Nice!
Spankin' a## goods right here now! Give us MORE!!!! One love, baybahs!💕💕💕🔥💜🌍
OMG Stu's magic is really a big deal in this potion. What a treat to see all this visual footage of our beloved songs
Great material
Never noticed there were claps on that song... Time for a relistening!
Stuart and his Kubicki. that was really something.
Please Joe...play The Bells of Lal part 2 live!!! Greetings from Spain
Such a great track to end an incredible album of this order
Master Stu with the cool Kubicky Ex Factor 4. 🤩
It is very cool to see how "messy" making a song can be. Thanks for sharing.
More tambourine!!
Thanks Mr. Satriani. Awesome classic.
Hey, Joe and friends!
Stu Hamm slappin n pippin like a boss!
Thank you.
Old skool Stu!
Stuart Hamm on Bass

@@vivoman Indeed 👍! Old school is exactly wassup!
Yeah! What Jummi said!
Satch does it for me…
Awesome! Those two are my favorite songs. It is great that such video exists. I wish JS music would be more like Flying in Blue Dream songs.
Nice console and studio.
Bells of lal 2 joe plays crazy emotional
Classic, awesome album. I remember when it was released
Niiiice. Love to see the development of the ideas. 😊
Would like to see Satriani and #Stuhamm reunite.
Muito bom!!! 👍👍👍👍👍
It's magic!
отличное исполнение.
Joe..love these behind the scenes....I wish you would release a dvd of all the cool stuff you have from the 80's-90's that's never been released...Call it The Satch Tapes 2!
Gotta love real hand claps!
Joe, never fails to amaze me
💓💓💓
So, I love videos like this that show us fans how it was done in the Studio. As a Bass player, I've worked on this groove for a very long time always looking for more insight to the line. I've gotten pretty good at it but then I see this video and wonder how accurate I am. Some day I may pay for a lesson from Stu just to show him how I play it and get some feed back. Maybe, I'll make a tutorial on how I play it since (it seems) no one has done this yet on CZcams. If I do, i'll come back and post the link.
I cannot believe you have old footage of part 2 , this track is still a hidden Jem (no pun intended) must of heard it about 100 times , did you record this in one take ? Love this track
🎸👏👏👏
Super cool, thing and all, but how about showing the recording of this monumental solo? It's one of my favorites, it even frustrated me to see overdubs of tambourine!!! when this song has an freacking awesome solo... come on guys...
Love this album!! Will we ever gonna see a vinyl release?
👽🎸🎶
What a brilliant composition. Love everything about it...Slap Bass, Drums and, of course, the exotic scales Joe was shredding over. I really wonder what the inspiration was behind this. Who is Mr. Lal? Why does Lal have bells? Very Indian/Exotic folks music with a modern twist!
Actualy "the balls of Mr. Lee" 😁
Joe Satriani ❤
❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️
I did not know there was clapping in this track! :O
Banana sighting at 1:22!!!🍌
The days when you actually had to play and record every sound.
👽
Is that a kubicki bass I spy?
Is there footage of Satriani's shredding solos?
John looks a bit like Steven Spielberg in the 80s
It's so funny everyone calling it a song... Songs have singing!
