Heracles and the Erymanthian Boar

  • This animation shows the Greek hero, Heracles, carrying out some of the 12 Labours. He has just completed the quest to kill the terrible Hydra, now he is sent to catch the Erymanthian Boar. The god, Hermes, travels with him to witness his great deeds. The king who sets the Labours does not like what he sees!
    The animation was created from a vase made in Athens, in Greece, in the sixth century BCE. The vase can be seen in the National Museum in Warsaw, in Poland (number 198042). The animation was created by the Panoply Vase Animation Project as part of the European Research Council funded project: Our Mythical Childhood...
