THANK YOU!
Love the video this far. Popping it on and off in between stuff at work.
Watching you do the DIY assembly part makes me realize how normal I am.
Love the new content 👌
this is honestly perfect for the exact reason you stated, most videos are 10-15min bite size chunks that are frankly just gaming the advertising algorithms, and so most channels stay away from actually discussing what they are doing or thinking and it comes down to a really slim pros/cons list at the end with very little context because we didnt SEE those pros and cons.
one thing i love about your channel is you break away from that "normal way to do things" and i salute you for it
+1 for talkiing about out the box setup - this hobby needs that point of view and if i were a manufacturer i would zoom you over to china and put you in a room with an upcoming model and let you tear us to pieces to make it great when it releases
@@MrMaawaa flown over to China and put into a room... sounds like we may never see Mr six side again
@@msp5616 🤣🤣
yeah it does sound a bit like that now ive read it back haha
I like the stream of thoughts/conciousness vibe this video has. So if you did more of this, I'd watch it. Always good stuff you put out.
"Sorry bout the swearing, by the way. Really f'ing sorry about that." That got a good chuckle out of me.
Great video, and good suggestions for the manufacturer. Keep up the good work, man!
As someone who has no printing experience, and waiting for the right time to buy a printer (need to move into a bigger space) i love this type of freeform video. No scripts, no staring at a face for x number of minutes, no clips of stock video while with voiceover. Great stuff, i forsee this channel blowing up.
Im a simple man, i see a OnceInASixSide video i upvote then watch
Best part is you don't get disappointed
For the power supply it's critical that you check the plug polarity as well as the voltage. Also the factory plug is an earthed EU type, not US but WGAF.
It's always wise to check polarity, but in general you're pretty safe unless there's audio equipment involved. Audio gear with a metal case (amps, pedals, mixers) is usually centre-negative, while audio gear with a plastic case (keyboards/synths, midi gear) is usually centre-positive. No guarantees, so always check.
The other case, when a device has a battery compartment for alkaline batteries, DC-in is often centre-negative. Something about doing it that way makes it easier to not accidentally dump power straight into non-rechargeable batteries. There are a bunch of oddball cases out there in the world, but I think most of the conventions that go into resin 3D printers probably inherit from centre-positive traditions. 90% of the DC adaptors out there are centre positive, so you'd _probably_ be fine if you forget to check polarity.
"Sorry about the swearing." Friend you do you. That's why I watch your content. Feels more like an actual person doing reviews and talking about printing topics over many others.
Keep it up man!
This style of video has major "hanging out with a friend in his garage while he shows me something neat" vibes. I'm here for it, keep them coming.
This video was in my recommended even though I don't print minis and no longer have a resin printer. It was so engaging that I didn't even realize that it was an hour video. I'd say your format is successful. I stayed for the entirety!
I gotta say i didn't realise you were swearing until you pointed it out 😅
Yeah, I do appreciate the swearing cause it's so casual. Like if I were to be talking with mates lol
I didn't realise you were swearing! From my time travelling from Perth to Darwin up the West Coast of Australia, I thought you were just speaking Australian. XD
I believe a happy medium between pre full time OIASS and current would hit a fantastic sweet spot. Relatable and professional. I wish you luck my friend!
Agreed! No need for a full script but somewhere in between winging it and fully preparing everything would be good!
With the hingey-door not having the hardware on it already. Id say that that has to do with the fear it jostling during transit and the lid hardware cracking or breaking the door itself. But being part of the "Just Remove The Lid," gang, id like to just remove the lid
Awesome to see people agree. Speed doesn't matter and more vat to clean sucks. Give me more flip lids and let us use any resin we want
Keep the Aussie nature coming, great attitude towards the printing and hobby! Keep up the good work.
I have to live voyeuristically threw these videos, I don't have the space, ventilation , or the time to get into 3d printing just yet, so I do love these quick reviews.
I appreciate the style of this video and while I'm not in the market for new printers, it's nice to see which way the industry is leaning when it comes to new features that may or may not become standard in the future.
the free form quick unboxing was pretty good, then comes the more in depth review later, very nice
Great video. Thanks for the unfiltered review. You are saying what we all would be saying, and it is refreshing. Loving your content and mission to get quality support in the customers' hands.
sunlu toughness has been my goto resin for mini printing. Much cheaper than mixing abs-like + flexible resin but so much more durable than standard resin. My prints don't instantly shatter from falling on my carpet.
I enjoyed the more relaxed vibe of this video. It was long but it didn't feel drawn out. Its cool seeing videos on the 3d printers that the manufacturers are sending you because it shows what's out there other than just the basic formula that most people including myself have (or at least it has recently). I also REALLY value your input on the properties of the resins you use in your videos because I've been trying to find the right tough resin for printing minis and have been having a weirdly hard time figuring out the differences between the ones I've been looking at. I've been planning on getting the sunlu toughness resin you showed in this video and would be really interested in knowing how you found it compared to others you've used. Overall I've been really happy to see all the new videos you've been making and I'm considering joining the buy me a coffee for a month or two for the print and paints as they seem like a really fun way to spend some time with the community.
I gotta say that when I normally see a video which is a hour long I don't watch it, but somehow you mange to make a review more intersting then some gaming videos. Of course you gotta have an interest in this, but I doubt that I could endure somebody else talk for an hour about one sigular machine, so props to you. Doesn't mean I don't like your scripted videos but these are also fun ;)
Well if it means anything, this video is the reason I subbed to you. I enjoyed the off the cuff casual way you spoke about things and you were open with your frustrations. The most refreshing part was that you also followed up your annoyances with ways they could fix it! Great video.
Honestly, I am happy for you that you first reviewed Nova3D. Now you can open GKTwo and enjoy what proper resin printer should be. Also, you will see what little difference there is between 14K (that isn't real 14K and even pixels aren't squared...) and 8K (GKTwo has 12K option, but there is not need for it)
Thanks for the video.
I was hoping for a comparative analysis of the Sunliu Tough compared to the other tough resin you used last time.
Coming soon!
I really appreciate all of the work you put into your video's and the way you analyze the products you review. Keep up the good work and much love!
Keep smashing it dude. I can't currently be a supporter monetarily at the moment but looking at everything you offer as part of your community is absolutely awesome dude keep it up!
Good video, one thing that I disliked was the sort of bobbing and weaving of the camera. It made me a little sick from motion sickness. Been loving the content though and your honesty in reviews!
I think the focus on features like 'fast' printing and auto-filling vats are targeted at more pro/semi-pro print farms, rather than hobbyists.
Cause yeah, as you said, it doesn't really matter to you how long a print takes, and this makes it _way_ more annoying to switch resin.
But if you are someone selling mini prints on etsy, you are just buying the same resin over and over in bulk, so there's no swapping and minimal vat cleaning.
And faster prints means more income per printer. Tho the 'fast' resin seems so brittle that IDK if etsy sellers would use it either, it looks like anything printed with it would shatter in transit.
I wonder if the residue on the plate was just cutting fluid from the machining process. Either way how much did they save by not washing before packaging🙄
@OnceinaSixSide
I dont resin print, I dont play any sort of miniatures or wargaming yet somehow your videos have appeal.
The humour, the honesty, the enthusiasm all round creates an ejoyable viewing experience.
Keep up the good work!
This is a great format tbh! I love it, although the insane "I'VE FOUND SOMETHING TERRIBLE" cliffhanger made me feel like I'm in an aussie telenovella
Haha don't worry you won't be waiting too long 😁
You were just in my ear for the whole video. It was more like a podcast and j enjoyed it.
If they had installed the hinges on the door/lid, you never would have gotten out the foam block.
Love your videos especially these recent, more free-form ones. As an aside I am a big fan of Sunlu's ABS like. I use a Creality Halot One Pro for what it is worth :)
Weekly uploads - what an absolute mad lad 🎉
Amazing video! Love your work as always man!
I much prefer these longer in-depth videos to any type of shorter “here’s why you should buy this” advert.
really enjoyed this it was so nice and down to earth felt like I was listening to a friend talk about his printer
can’t overstate how great the discord is, such a cool community to be part of
To be fair you only need to use one Nova bottle of resin and you can just fill it up with whatever resin you like afterwards.
26:33 you, of all people just said "assume" & "level" in the same sentence - and you were my mentor...😢
Love your videos and your energy!!
Love your content. Always entertained. Keep crushing.
"So this thing is blowing out nice hot air. That's super cool." Is that like saying "This vacuum really sucks"?
Lmao, yes. I realized while editing that that line was not very helpful if you read it into too much.
Let me clarify: the hair is hot. The feature is awesome.
I like long form reviews like this.
Enjoyed the chill podcast vibe! Just a bit long. :) getting it under 30mins would be perfect
Ok, as an opener to a printer this was positively thorough. Maybe in a month or two time of constant use you can do an update in that time as well for corrections, issues etc....
Loved this video!
@OnceinaSixSide, I love all ur videos man, if I look for a video, I look for a long one, I need the in depth ones. I found ur channel by finding ur resin 3d printing tuturial. All the videos I found were never explaining anything. Hell, I didnt even know about exposure range until I watched it. 20 mins videos dont help. That video was so helpful. I am ashamed to admit it but I sold my printer because I thought it was broken, now I suspect it was either the temperature, the supports or the exposer. I only got 3 prints out of it! Then sold it for parts. Whoops. Also, your minirater website is amazing!
I liked the format! Might be nice to include the name of the printer either in the title or at least in the description, so that people looking for this particular printer can find it better.
I think your criticism of auto-fill is from a consumer perspective, but remember, the higher end of printers is intended for use by on demand medical manufactuerers, where pausing the print is not feasible due to the volume of prints. Auto fill is not intended for us consumers.
Love this type of live-like reviews. Makes it feel more real. Can't wait to see what you think about GKtwo!
Good stuff! I have an Anycubic Mono 6ks and a Kobra 2 neo on the way can't wait to start printing
Regarding the power cable, my understanding is there are basically only a handful (relatively speaking) of power supply sizes being made. When I got my printer, it used a US plug (that is where I bought it) but I needed an EU plug. I went to a hardware store and they had a bin just of cords for that power supply to EU.
As an Australian I don't even notice the swearing until you pointed it out. Also, the fluid on the build plate could be residue cutting fluid or cleaning agent.
Interesting printer. Companies really, really need to stop with proprietary tech on these to force an ecosystem. Ive had anycubic, sunlu, and creality resin printers but ive always fallen back to Sunlu resin. Damn though, $900+ is steep when you look at the competition. Dont know if i could justify this over an elegoo for vastly cheaper.
Not a wargamer, but enjoyed the review. Just stumbled across the video - if we can ever just stumble across anything these days. keep up the good work.
I have a M3Max with auto filler, I have used it twice, just too awkward to use - cable & tubes too short to be able to move the bottle from the rear to the side. Plus in the UK during winter the resin in the bottle is too cold to add to the tank. Currently printing over night - temp outside is -4C, in the shed it's 3C and my printer cabinet enclosure is heated to 24C, with a vat heater on the vat fitted, and a bottle heater on the spare resin bottle for resin top ups. Oh the fun of 3D printing in the winter. It's FFFFFFFFF Freezing
Awesome content ❤
I like the stream of consciousness impression video personally. Makes me feel like its a bit more honest
In the event you've not been around commercial or industrial printers, a lot of the 'new' features we're now seeing on consumer printers are dribble-down features that have been around awhile, albeit done quite a bit cheaper on these class of machines. Heaters, water-cooled electronics and actual usable feed pumps (that are micro-controlled with active detection rather than filled like a gimmicky dog bowl bottle or don't take 20 minutes to pump out a small vat) are pretty standard fare on commercial rigs.
To my current knowledge with regards to Chinesium resin factories, there's four major producers of photopolymers, a few in Korea and Taiwan, and a handful between the US and Europe (mostly engineering grades or private label). Any large printer with self-branded resin comes from one of the four Asian factories, normally in the same plant as a competitor's. Machines and key parts are also shared between brands, especially control boards, LCD screens and to a point, chassis components.
SLA/LCD-based resin printers are a rather small, concentrated ecosphere with unfortunately little true individuality, as by and large there's not much to differentiate different machines other than aesthetics due to who makes mainboards, controls the software, etc. outside of customized add-on software.
Hey man, Love the stuff and once again it is hard to hear you are also a part of the recent lay off wave. I hope you're doing well and got enough Money in the bank to stay afloat.
Hey thanks! Recent sponsorship money has buffered me against the worst of it, and the influx of support from the community has been absolutely wild and given me a lot of confidence to go hard and find some new formats here to make this sustainable long term. I'm more stoked than ever for the future of this channel!
Resolution is useless because it needs to scale with the size of the printer. Past a certain point it’s entirely idiotic to increase resolution. 14k on this printer doesn’t really mean anything.
I adore your vids, swearing doesn't bother us at all (and if it does they aren't real ppl lol) Thanks for doing your thing and sharing
Love you big guy! Stil the best 3d printing CZcamsr
they could improve the hinge situation on the Nova3D by making that t-shape bracket trick on the inside longer, then the lid would tilt back further on opening and be less likely to fall forward again. Or make the hinges stiffer. .
I JUST bought a uniformation GKTwo and I can't wait for your review/ video on it omg.
I LOVE my GKTwo. Best printer I've ever had. Gives me great prints
Im here for the hands
Got the GKtwo myself and its the best printer on market for me.
Need to echo the comments about the camera motion. Was a lot of bobbing and moving around and made it really hard to watch.
hey, what do you think of the sunlu tough resin ? do you mix it ?
This machine seems like it was a prototype that they disassembled and sent over
As for feed back love these long form video. Just for clarity I am only here since after the poorhammer podcast so havn't been here too long. I would like to have seen more close ups of your prints and maybe even compare them to others?
Otherwise great and nice to see my name there at the end of the video :) hope you make this your full time job :) good luck :)
Is your fep all scratched from the stuff dropping on it? Some of this build seems so quality and then others its a head scratcher
Resin fillers are nice if you are like me and only print with one type of resin. I use elegoo 8k resin for my gktwo and anycubic mono 6k. But yes cleaning the system out after a failed print would be a nightmare. That being said I do like the idea of a pump that drains resin from a large vat (I've had too many spills tipping a heavy resin vat after a failed print) with a filter (to filter out misprints).
But again this would only work if you use one type of resin.
the counter-shrunk screws would probably fit better in the hinge
I feel like resin slicer makers need to go look at fdm slicers to get some of these convenience features.
I don't mind the swearing, it makes everything more real.
Kinda wished you'd done the other one first as waiting on more reviews for that😂.
But great video none the less.
Have you ever tested the monocure tensile resin considering it's a australian product? Cant find any reviews on it , probably because it's on the more expensive side.. love your content btw, cheerz
Yes I have, there's a short segment on it in the video "We have Warhammer at Home" that I did a few months ago on the Creality Halot Mage Pro and DMG minis.
It's incredibly brittle and useless for miniatures.
I agree with the 10:00 ish, there is no need for fancy sheets for faster printing with these, especially for home use. It's not like it is FDM that could take 20+ hours for one terrain piece. Also, thanks for the warning to hold near the end.
I am wondering why you don't have a uvtools calibration file earmarked for these times. I have started using it on my elegoo printer for new resins I haven't dialed in yet? I usually have it do a cones print in .1 increments from 1.9-2.9 in one print taking about 2 hours. I also have profiles for lower and higher values loaded to try if needed.
i saw a test from that printer on an other channel and there this printer had the problem that the heater instandly turned off when the print started, is that still like that or did they fixed that?
The hinge thing seems a bit whiny.
How much of a kickback does Amazon give you? I prob need to resupply with some esun filament, and wanted to know how much you get from a purchase?
I think around 3 to 5%? Appreciate you using an affiliate link if you do pick some up!
Once again campaigning for you to print a gundam from rockyq mecha addict ❤ awesome vid
hey that residue you thought was resin was very likely just machining oil. when you're machining a part you use oil as a lubricating and cooling medium to ensure smooth cuts and to avoid tempering of certain metals. thanks for the video regardless bud
source? I'm a big hunky American man and I work 16 hour shifts every day at the BALL CRUSHING FACTORY
I love your Australian nature; the swearing doesn't bother me at all.......... but.
Every time you drop something on the FEP in the vat or but it down on your bench, FEP-to-wood, my heart drops.
You do have check if the power plug is positive center or not
Been resin printing now for a few months and I've never spun my build plate tension knob like that. There are some WIFI devices that can be sensitive to having special characters in your password or SSID. My Qidi iMates printer has this issue as well as some devices from Arlo my father installed on his network.
did you try sending a file while a usb drive was inserted? it could be that it wont save to internal memory but will to external
..i still use a old machine. 6 hour print times are fine overnight. its never been a big deal.
I enjoyed the longer format, but I had some time to run in the background, usually I am a less than 10 minute sort of guy … who isn’t 😋
Not a fan of the standard fep being there, pfa (nfep) is superior in nearly all properties (marginally more expensive). But it is a minor issue to replace usually.
As for the faster print speeds. The biggest time consumer for resing printing is z rail distance, speed and accuracy. With more precise motors, better linear rails (the ball screws becoming more common is a good change), variable exposure slicing and temperature controlled vats (rather than enclosures); we should see a dramatic increase in speed at the same quality.
Some might say if you don’t like being exposed to resin residue, using a resin printer (no matter which brand) is going to be a bad idea.
They can level a bed out of factory but they can't attach a lid? If I could build shit I wouldn't need a machine that made shit!
Hearing an Aussie say Zee instead of Zed is weird to my American ears. Used to you guys being wrong 😉
Did I mention the aluminum construction? I'm sure I mentioned the aluminum construction 😂
@@OnceinaSixSide Didn’t catch that one 😂
Have you ever tried Epax printers? They are all I ever used. Pretty high quality machines.
I haven't actually! Would be keen to try one out
1:25 That looks like a EU powercord, not a US one.
1:24 plz use this sound bite on anything frustrating
I'm gonna have to pass on building my own 3D printer from IKEA...
