    • @LincolnVOS
      @LincolnVOS Před rokem +2

@@general5104 Thanks a lot for the reminder, General.
It´s crazy how we can take things for granted. I´m sorry to hear about your not being able to play the guitar any longer, but I´m glad you can continue to experience and create music in new ways.
It´s been 10 months since my original comment now, so I got a little better at playing the trumpet by now.
Here´s a piece of advice for you in case you need it; cover most of the mouthpiece with your lower lip, leaving just a little space for the upper lip. Don´t buzz your lips, just gently press the trumpet against your lips. Start with no pressure at all and gently blow air through the trumpet, then add a little pressure little by little until you create a note, whatever that note is.
If you want to go higher, close your lips ever so slightly. If you want to go lower, open your lips ever so slightly.
If you can already hit high and low notes, then it´s better if you just dismiss this advice so that it doesn´t mess with your technique. In case you´re having issues hitting high and low notes, though, I hope you find this helpful.
Either way, don´t you stop making music, General.

He forgot to mention that if your raw brass slides are turning a dark color, you can clean them easily with Brasso available in many stores.

  • @socialmeaslesinpartnership1252

I bought a trumpet and watched this video and some others. I learned a lot that i needed to know but it's not the whole story. Every time you play, you have to clean it but i thought it was maybe at the weekends and a strip-down and bath maybe twice a year. It's not all that clear and i was getting fed up with notes failing, can't get the practice in for the embouchure, play my exercise tunes etc. because the thing was always "crapping out" - and I thought it was me.
There's a thing called a "trumpet swab" which is a bit like a pull-through or "snake". It's made of silk or chamois leather and feeds through the lead pipe and the lead slide after playing to thoroughly, quickly clean and dry everything. Much better than the pull-through "brushy thing". Do the mouthpiece as well with a little brush and it takes care of this much more easily and quickly. I can make progress now and i wonder why these videos aren't telling us about this part of cleaning a trumpet - loads of players do it.
Anyway, they aren't expensive, easily available from any brass supplier so buzz it up on Google and take a look - trumpet swab - if you're having similar bother.

The valve pistons are numbered and must be in the right casings for the trumpet to play; the valve closest to you when you play is #1.
The middle is #2 and the one furthest away from you is #3. Apply a few drops of valve oil to each piston, turn it in its casing until you hear the valve guide click into place, and then screw down the valve cap.

When I was cleaning out my trumpet, I saw on the thing on the bottom of where the valves go into had back stuff inside of it. What should I do?

Black stuff? You should definitely clean that out as well. Or bring it by your local repair shop if you're unsure of what to do.

If a slide is stuck because it wasn’t cleaned what are you supposed to do? Can I still bathe it? Just curious so Just in case I forget.

If a slide is stuck, bring it to a professional. Do not attempt to remove it yourself.

@@ussarizona2201 It depends. Some shops that sell instruments also repair them, but others don't. Best to look up who is considered to be the best instrument repair technician in your area.
