Sam hadn't been out of prison long and when Robert went missing and was gone for weeks Sam called and claimed he had kidnapped Robert and said he would kill the boy if they didn't give him 5,000 pounds . Sam actually had no idea where Robert was but the audience did . the people watching the show knew where he was and who he was with and that no one hurt him . this was just before Robert's 9th birthday . yes , Aaron's husband . Aaron would have been 2 years old at the time. this is also around the time the Dingles stole that van they kept for decades. Yes, Sam did more jail time for extortion over that. i don't think Robert ever knew that about Sam. The Military veteran/farmer who found Robert hiding on his farm eventually got Robert to agree it was time to go home and dropped the boy off . they accused the man of things but he did nothing wrong. he sure gave Robert's dad a piece of his mind though when they tied to accuse him of doing stuff to Robert.. When Robert tried to give the man a hug once (like a boy would his dad) the man said no you can't do that i'm not your dad . you could say he was Robert's friend . Gave Robert 1 of his medals as a keepsake .
Joanne Batt she didn't love him I personally think he just hurt her pride he mugged her off and everyone knew about it and then when the Dingle's took Rachel in that hurt her .
