Paras hospital Srinagar accused of medical negligence, hospital denies

- The family members of a man who passed away at Paras hospital in Srinagar on Thursday held a protest against the facility, accusing the doctors of medical negligence.
They also held a protest outside the hospital to demand action against the "erring doctors".
However, the hospital authorities said the deceased was a high-risk patient and that every effort was made to save him. "We regret to inform you that Mr. Gulzar Ahmed Sheikh aged 46 years, who was brought to Paras Hospital, Srinagar on July 16 from another hospital in a critical condition passed away today due to cardiac arrest.
After clinical evaluations, the patient was taken for the bypass surgery. His family was counselled about the critical nature of the procedure and the high-risk associated with the surgery and were kept informed consistently during this time. Despite the best efforts of our medical team, Mr. Gulzar Ahmed's condition deteriorated as he was a high-risk patient and was critical throughout. He succumbed to cardiac arrest during the family meeting with the hospital authorities.
Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family during this difficult time. The hospital's authorities, including doctors and administrative staff, are constantly communicating with the family, providing support and assistance throughout this challenging period. Every effort was made by our dedicated team of senior doctors and surgeons to save Mr. Gulzar Ahmed. At Paras Health, we strive to provide high-quality and compassionate care to all our patients. We extend our deepest sympathies to his loved ones in this hour of sorrow," the hospital said, in a press release.

Over the three months we spent there, witnessing the decline of many patients, including my relative, after seemingly routine surgeries was deeply troubling.
Many people have the misconception that government hospitals provide all necessary equipment and medicine. Unfortunately, in my experience, this wasn't the case. The financial burden of purchasing these items significantly added to the overall cost of care.
My experience highlights the significant challenges facing Kashmir's healthcare system, both government and private. The financial burden of treatment in Kashmir, combined with the potential for complications, can be overwhelming. For those facing serious medical situations, especially surgery, considering treatment outside the state might be a difficult but potentially necessary option.
It's important to weigh the financial implications against the potential benefits. While seeking care elsewhere presents a financial hurdle, the costs incurred locally for often-disappointing outcomes can be equally high.

The doctor who performed surgery is a brilliant doctor. But this is an unfortunate incident, very sad incident.
If they were already told that the patient is at high risk how were they so sure that he will survive?..As for the doctor saying "yi chunn kanh masle" may be he told that to console them so that they don't panic...moreover death is inevitable...wallahu A'alam..may Allah grant jannah to the deceased.
Reservation should be withdrawn in case of doctors and Engineers.
No country can make full progress and development if reservation continues.

This is a very serious condition in our kashmir valley where hospitals become business centers. Authority should be taken as strict decisions so that everyone will feel safe after going to the hospitals.
As a doctor, I believe the CVTS surgeon is competent and wouldn't be negligent. He has performed many successful surgeries at Khyber Hospital. Maybe the patient's outcome was inevitable/fate.

If you don’t have knowledge about such things its better to not talk about them. And being competent doesn’t mean the doctor is a god. You have no idea how many struggles a doctor goes through during his course. I really don’t understand why people think doing a surgery is an easy job and should always be successful. May allah grant the man who died jannah. But you can’t always blame the doctor for such things.

The doctors working in the hospital are very brillient,but I think the incident occured due to the administration issues.

Dr Asrar Qadri is finest CTVS surgeon in valley and has done hundreds of successful high risk cases.
Risk is involved in every surgery that’s why consent is taken and explained.

Unfortunately 2nd case in a month one of our closely knowing family Punjabi kashmiri family lost their young son in month of june family said staff girls were applying mehandi in icu on eid event they insist their daughter to do this job for them whose brother was on death bed due to inefficiency of hospital.
