- Thanks to Patricia Oliveira for requesting this logo history. Well, we did it! We surpassed our 40th logo history! 10 more and we will have halfway to 100! VIDgital (first known as VID) is a Russian company that was found in 1987 by co-founders of the Vzglyad (Glance) TV Program. One of the founders has been shot dead, and that is Vlad Listyev. He was shot in his apartment. To this day (2019), the murderers have never been found or identified. 24 years and the murderers haven't been found! 24 YEARS! For a whole day, ORT and many other Russian channels went off the air and only displayed a photo of him with the text "Vladislav Listyev has been killed". In October 2017, VID changed its name to VIDgital. VID stands for Vzglyad i Drugiye (meaning Glance and Others in Russian). Credit for all logos and captures belong to everyone who made them, no matter if they are the copyright owner, in which they are shown in this video.

My family immigrated to America from Russia before I was born in the 90s, so growing up we had Russian cable... when I was little that fucking mask would scare the crap out of me every time it came on screen with the jump-scare music. I also distinctly remember the guy going "Telekompanya VID, po zakazu O.R.T" after it appeared on screen, then it would just linger with the eerie crackling static in the background before fading to black. It was always after such innocent shows like that Wheel of Fortune knockoff or this talk show called "Kak eto bylo" (How it Was), so I could never tell when it would strike. I remember seeing the original logo all the way up until 2004-2005, too! Never saw it with the bouncing ball intro, though... not till I looked it up online.
I also couldn't tell that the thing under his chin was his neck, and I only just found out the thing on top of his head was supposed to be a toad... so as a kid I assumed they were just these weird baubles/portrustions on the top and bottom of his face, which made it seem even eerier to me.
Very interesting. I can imagine it scared many Russian people back in the day. And yes, sometimes cracking static can be eerie. When I first discovered the logo I always thought the toad on top of the head was a tumor of some sort. Thanks for sharing your story.

If I did have a favourite logo from VID, then it would probably just be the 2017-present logo from VIDgital (the other VID logos are okay, but they're not really a cup of my coffee, mainly because of that mask). But I also like the 5th logo from 1994-1996, as the stop-motion animation is good, even though the mask is still present.

I've only seen the logo of the Russian television station on the Internet before. I thought I never saw any foreign television programmes like that before but it seems to be very creepy especially the original one.
The production company (VID) made a lot of kids shows which is a significant part why the logo got such notoriety, many kids saw the old logo, the company also produced a popular weekend wheel of fortune TV show

Actually, the 1990 to 2017 logo is creepy, aside from 2017 to present day, the 2017 one is my favorite, I hate the ones in 1990s to 2017!
