Back in '94 The Cult was in Atlanta and me and some friends went to go see them that night at The Roxy and across the street was a pub called Good Ole Days. We drank beers there and saw the band bus show up and next thing I know I see someone at teh next table looking like Ian Astbury. It turns out it was him and their tour manager so we bought them a pitcher of beer and then he came and sat & talked with us for about 30-45 minutes or so and he was cool as hell.

What an amazing interview. Ian is so refreshingly, humble, down to earth, honest and candid. He speaks intelligently with wisdom. Great album too, one of The Cult's defining albums.

Ian is a rather rare genuine, non pretentious, candid, honest, ,erudite leading man. Such an underrated lead singer. A huge talent and a perfect pairing along with Billy Duffy. Love The Cult. And still a hot guy.

I find it sad that Ian and Billy diss their earlier albums Love and Dreamtime. Both were excellent productions for the period. I will always listen to both of these albums. Ceremony also. They also stood out as very different from what I heard before. I can still listen to each over and over again and not get bored! Ian's voice is unique, my solace. Transcending me to another level. Always a comfort ❤❤

I love how this man carries himself. He has such a keen well spoken insight & awareness. A humble Rockstar ! I have no idea why peeps debate the albums. Love & Electric were brilliant... I saw the Cult open up for Billy Idol circa...ummm late 80's. :)

I love how the quiet, outsider kid ends up having an incredible voice. "The blues and sensuality in music is important" It's so funny that Rick Rubin worked with the Beastie Boys, the Cult, and the Red hot chili peppers. such diverse bands. I was listening to the cults Love album while listening, to the doors, the Beatles white album, Zeppelin, Metallica, and then grunge hit hard and all the cult music, AC/DC, Metallica prepared us for hearing Chris Cornell's voice and Soundgarden's "Break my rusty cage" yes. women are finding their power. "Game of Thrones" the next vice president (finally) But Ian is still one of my idols who is fearless on stage and sings his heart out. Red paint on the face .war. "ritual space" transcendence. Ian speaks very eloquently, and the part about us needing to ask for the first nations people elders help is right on. We should have done that more than 100 years ago. ATWA. Namaste. Jai Kali Maa!

One of the best interviews I have seen in awhile. Ian is a powerful man. He has the ability to speak his mind and be sincere, yet not lose his edge. His whole painful youth still affects him and that is a very relatable theme, at least to me. The spirit he has really comes through here when you see him speak about what is on his mind. I appreciate the interviewer for letting him speak. I love what he says about feminine sensuality in music. He is exactly right. Ying and Yang. Peace!

Firewoman was always my Fav song & one most of my frens back home called me *lol* Love that indigenous ppl had an impact with Ian, especially the 6 nations!! One of the reasons why my friends & I became Cult fans. Being Indigenous, yes our ppl know all about that ostracising feeling all 2 well but its one obstacle 2 overcome rite ;-)

  • @dunjaradoalignmentcoach1774

the interviewer is not aligned at all with ian, not feeding onto his narrative, he had so many openings for her to explore much more interesting things but she goes for the basics and isnt attuned, like she is not really aware who she is sitting with. but he is just super cool, present, open, interesting, alive. beautiful.

Life is a journey, not a product. None of us are here to cater to the whims of the populous. Sometimes we do some great things, sometimes we fall, and maybe some great things later. But there's always change and a transition. Respect the journey and see what's next.

There are quite a few bands from the 80's and 90's that are still rockin' today such as Def Leppard, AC/DC, Crue might still be rocking, Van Halen are still trying to rock but they're having difficulties with choosing a full time vocalist, Velvet revolver is alright. The new age "Rock" today is more.... pop than rock its mostly about young boys with fruity vocals and melodies trying to attract girls. That isnt rock that's crap. Rock is "Welcome to the jungle" from GNR its "Night Prowler" from AC/DC that is rock.

Is there a musician that can just speak plainly without all the pretension?
