The card is not to be taken literally. How do we know this? Because the seven of swords is one of the 'stage cards' hence the apparent message is to be taken figuratively as if in parentheses. The posture of the solitary figure has the exaggerated bearing of a stock character in a pantomine. The tents in the background depict a military encampment. The rich financiers able to fund such an army have the complacent presumption that might is right and that numbers both of men and weapons are the critical factor in winning, However, there is an ancient military saying, 'Never underestimate the enemy'. Although the enemy may be small in number (here represented by the solitary man) they might be posessed of a greater degree of intelligence (here symbolised by the red hat) and phycical agility (represented by the red shoes). One thinks of the biblical story of David and Goliath. Although he is solitary he is operating at a different, intellectually much more subtle, order of magnitude than those who fund and train the army. By using great subtlety of wit - here using the example of silently and surreptitiously taking the enemy's weaponry - he has as one man defeated an entire army. Therefore the message of the card is not about stealing other peoples ideas but about using one's discernment, one's intellectual creativity to achieve victory in the face of apparently hopeless odds.

Many ways to read a card. All of them are going to be 'borrowed ideas', like this dude is doing. Your version of reading is great, if it works for you. That's the key message. Dont take my ideas if they dont work for you, hold onto your own. borrowing others beliefs is like carrying the swords by their blades- not so smart!

Thanks for your video and our opinions on this card has given me a lot deeper insight!
My family is full of narcissists. After years of years of difficult time with them I decided to be honest to my own feelings and wouldn't act as someone they expected to be. Ever since every time I had to confront them I got seven of swords as advice.
I used to see this as "walking away from them with tactics" or "being superficial", but still felt that something was missing. Until I watched your video, and I found "the ideas we borrowed from others might hurt us""we in the end become dishonest because we are living based on other's opinions instead of ourselves" make a lot more sense in my case, especially when I got page of pentacles as "obstacle", which my understanding is "you as the child value their opinions too much".

I really appreciate this interpretation. For years I had this card come up in regards to my career, which was really confusing because most other interpretations seemed to call me a liar or cheater in some way, which didn't make too much sense. It was also a little confusing to call my employers liars and cheaters when ultimately they were just playing the game. I think this makes more sense here: I had let other people's opinions of me influence me too much. I started to believe that I wasn't cut out for the industry and that I deserved all the hate and doubt people cast upon me. This made it even harder for me to do my best and stand up for myself.

One of my least favorite cards in the Tarot! I always think “Oh no, not him!” My first Tarot teacher called him sneaky Pete, and that’s what I always think of when I see him. Thanks so much for your deeper interpretation of this card! Grateful 🙏💙.

It is very humbling to admit self deception by believing untruths yet, very strengthening to go back and start fresh as the page of swords learning how to use the sword of discernment and trusting intuition. Thanks Marcus!

@@angh638it is still theft and robbery but on the level of taking our energy from other people and the other interpretation is stealing physically from people. But it is all theft.

Hmm... My mind is churning after watching this video. Perhaps the 2 swords stuck in the ground in the image are the ideas and truths that are shared. These collective truths. We have to forge our own sword but sometimes we don't have one for a particular "battle" or "fight" so we have to look around and see what ideas have been established that we can use. Be we don't keep it as our own because it's shared. And we don't steal these swords and claim them as our own. Likewise, we can't steal others' personally forged swords and claim them as our own. And furthermore, perhaps some of us are really adept blacksmiths and can forge and synthesize a lot of ideas. I think we all do this to an extent. And when we do synthesize new swords we stick them in the ground for others to come across and use when they need that tool/weapon. The world is littered (for lack of a better word) with swords! Thank you for helping me see and play with one of the metaphors/interpretations of this card.
