I think this is setting up for Steve to die. I know. I don't want it to happen, but here's why I think it will.
1. Steve and Dustin have sort of been 'at odds' if you will, about the latter's friendship with Eddie.
2. He's fallen for Nancy again and vice versa, but it looks like it's coming together way too easily.
3. He's already been punctured (or bitten) by one of the bat creatures and god knows if he's been infected with anything, let alone the blood loss.
4. Nancy and Robin have gotten to know eachother as well this season and have already established themselves as "friends". So I think when/if Steve dies, they will have eachother...at least if they make it.
5. His (unlikely) bond with the kids. Although he's much closer with Dustin, and he often complains about being 'the babysitter', you can tell clearly that he has come to care about those kids. Even though they alot of times get their way, he can turn on dad mode real quick and the way he was relieved when Max was able to break from Vecna. I think his death if it happens, will be him sacrificing himself to save the kids and get them out of the Upside Down.

I just watched this again, bc I'm writing a fanfic and wanted to at least get their vibes during interactions right, and I couldn't stop laughing at how doofy Eddie is. I can’t deny that I ship Steve and Eddie. They would make such a good pair imo. I can see why Eddie took so long to trust Steve in the boathouse. It's because he was like Carver only a few years ago, at least in Eddie's eyes.

Theory on why I think Eddie WONT die.
So, I've seen a lot of talk about Eddie Munson getting killed off in Vol. 2 of Stranger Things. And I have a lot of thoughts about it all.
The thing I've been seeing most people say is that Eddie is going to sacrifice himself and die after his guitar moment in the Upside Down. And that he has to die because the people are Hawkins are after him because they think he killed Chrissy. I don't know if anyone else noticed this, but Dustin is on the roof of the trailer with Eddie when he's playing his guitar. If Eddie was sacrificing himself to save Dustin, why would he be on the roof with him? He can't jump off and run without getting hurt. They used a ladder to get on top of the trailer. There's no roof access.
Also, in the trailer, there's a shot of Dustin and Eddie back to back with weapons then another one where Dustin is cheering and Eddie is next to him. So, I'm assuming whatever the plan with the guitar is works. And Eddie is there to celebrate with Dustin. (Also, monopoly already spoiled that Eddie is luring the bats from Vecna’s lair he’s not saving Nancy hence why Nancy is okay in the teasers)
Anyway, I see where people are coming from, but my problem with all of that is that it's too predictable. In general, killing Eddie is too predictable. I shared part of an article recently where Joseph Quinn said how they're pushing for Jonathan and Eddie to interact in Season 5. The response to that post was mixed.
Some people think he's lying, which I get, or that the comment means nothing. The thing is, Jonathan and Eddie interacting in Season 5 is the most mundane thing to lie about. Like, what kind of fake tease is that? Ya know? So, I don't think that was a lie. I think it was something that just slipped out. I think his death is too predictable and the Duffer brothers want you to think that he will die. Also, they mentioned that a character will die and it will be a huge impact etc so it must be someone from the original cast as Eddie is new.
On top of that, I think he could be valuable going forward especially that he’s bonding with Dustin its like he might possibly replace Steve as the babysitter? In other words, I don't think his purpose in Stranger Things is limited to his story this season.
Also the whole town is out to find Eddie and the rest of the gang they’re obviously all gonna witness something all together that will clear Eddie’s name otherwise what would be the point of them searching for him if he dies in the upside down, that storyline would lead to nothing and Eddie would die with a bad reputation!

I actually read this and appreciate the time you’ve put into it! I truly hope youre right bc just like the rest of the world, I now love Eddie. What I do think you’re right about is his storyline needs to end with the people of Hawkins seeing that he didn’t do anything to Chrissy and that there’s a supernatural element they don’t know about. But I also think the Duffers had no idea that Eddie was going to be as big of a favorite as he turned out to be so they might’ve already had it planned for him to die. I hope not though! I do think killing the newcomers (Billy, Bob, Alexei) is becoming too predictable so I hope they don’t continue that trope. Eddie clearly isn’t very loved in his life and he’s now found people who care about him and want to help him, especially Dustin, so I hope they don’t just throw all that away.

A month ago I couldn’t care less about the new stranger things season coming out (I loved s1, not so much s2 and s3) my sister forced me to watch it and It took 3 mins of Eddie appearence to make me fall in love, and now I’m here obsessing over him and begging for The season finale. I swear to god If the writers kill him I’m NEVER gonna watch this show again ❤️🔥👄❤️🔥
Omg, me too, exactly the same way! I heard about Eddie's character and decided to watch it (skipped the 3° season), and fell in love with him, he is too precious for this world ♥
@ the only thing I really Liked a lot about the 3rd season was the Steve/Dustin and Robin arc. expecially the coming out scene is really worth watching but everything else I thought was a little dumb 😅 this fourth season is so different so much more quality and Eddie is really carrying most of it 😍 best character on the show and joseph Quinn is just *chef kiss* perfect
