Thank you for your advice on this. I'm doing the same job on an SL500 here in the UK. The part is slightly different, but the method is very similar. I was also thinking of putting double sided foam tape between the screen and the plastic cover when putting it back on. I suppose the purpose of having it glued to the glass at manufacture, is the guide the flow of water coming off the screen away from the bulkhead to prevent leaks and water damage. So I thought I'd try and re seal it. Thanks for your help Steve
