    • @Aloneinthedarkso
      @Aloneinthedarkso Před 5 lety +6

      Pushing the limits of a stock motor is a good point for those who cannot afford to build one. Of course a built motor is way way better. But not everyone has the money to build one. So they push the stock one. If someone (video) blows the motor then you know not to go to say 350hp on it. Stay at 300. That's a feat for this tiny engine. Now of you have money and you just wanna know then cool. You're going into it knowing you're going to blow it and buy a new one. It's just a good starting point.
      It sucks on what happened and it's a learning experience. But how many people can say they pushed a stock motor to over 350hp? Or daring enough to do it? Imagine it was just rods. What if someone else gets new rods and can push the motor even further? Still a hell of a lot less than a built one

    Yeah... Could told you that. 300 whp seems to be the limit for this block on stock internals if you want any kind of reliability. I wouldn't dare push those kinda numbers on stock internals. I stopped at 300 with mine and ordered new rods and soon gonna get valves and stronger springs to handle the extra boost. The L15 is a solid motor to begin with but at the end of the day it was designed with tolerances just like any other block and it sucks when stuff like this happens but kids nowadays don't read up when modding. They just slap on bolt-ons and push it to the limit. I can't tell you how many times I've seen stuff like this on the track over the years. It's a tough lesson to learn but when you get it right finally, the results are rewarding. Good luck with the new build and my fellow 10th gen owners take note, if you're gonna push over 350whp make sure you are ready to replace and reinforce: Pistons, rods, valves, springs and head studs. If you think you're gonna try to push 400-500 expect to need a stronger balanced crank and possibly have to sleeve your cylinder walls of they even can with this block. Good luck!

And that's only IF you're able to get the type R at MSRP. Many more dealers are selling Type R's at MSRP now, but its still not uncommon to have to deal with +5 grand in ADM.
      Additionally, many people are turned off by the Type R's aesthetic. Also, there isn't as much after market support for the Type R as there is the Civic.

Sure u can spend 6k on a r18 to get same power as an Si but why not buying an Si at beginning. Save those 9k buy a type R get flaspro for 750$ and ur at 350 hp with no modification. Add then when you have money more add-on and off course the type R value in 5-10-15 years will be much higher than a 1.5t Si. So you not losing much with it

      @PhongVLG  Před 5 lety +1

      Stoney Baker Well a big factor in what I explained in the video is that I drive my car very spirited. I just feel like the L15 is such a new platform with alot to be learned over time. I dont think you can pin point the weakness to just a dyno number. As I said before they're are plenty of 10th gens over 400 whp and close or passed the 400tq barrier. K20z3allmotorFTW CZcams channel claims to be the highest HP L15B7 in the world making 465whp on a gtx28r . Granted hes on a Motec ECU which greatly enhances tuning capability, hes still on a stock unopened L15. Ososick media is another example. I know Phong was on a prototype PURE turbo and maybe the amount of torque those smaller frame big wheel turbos make at low rpm is causing the L15s weak point (the rods) to fail. It would be interesting to see a data log of the night your car blew Phong to see exactly what caused the rod to explode out the block. Also I know the factory direct injection fuel system L15s use is a limiting factor right now as there are no aftermarket fuel upgrades at the moment. I wonder what the Air to Fuels were at the time. Could leaning out be the culprit to detonation??

      Josemari Zafra Goal of the video is to let people be aware that these motors aren’t bullet proof, there is a red zone, just stay under 300 wtq and you’ll be fine, the more you mod the closer to the cliff you become. If you want to really be safe, upgrade your internals as in pistons and rods. Also, we are putting the same L15B7 motor in but this time all the internals will be fully built! Upgraded to withstand such power and more!

    I wouldn’t trust any mechanic that thinks 20 psig is low boost.
    In fact, it’s not the boost the determines power. Pressure is a function of resistance. Higher efficiency larger turbochargers can push more air at lower boost and make much more power.

      ItzCashew I’m not acting anyway. It’s designed for 20psig. Even at 15psig that isn’t low boost which is the lowest it’ll run at wide open throttle that I’ve seen.
      By your insane logic no car is high boost because they won’t run that pressure level all the time. Any turbo car will have an extremely dynamic pressure ratio. So quoting peak boost is essentially industry standard.

So knowing that people can put in a bigger turbo and tune the car to not exceed that torque value. They can have a daily capable of making low 400whp easily.

    Seeing this after learning how he was running mods from an unknown company that probably didn't know what they were doing on a big turbo set up. This happens to people who don't research parts and risk their cars for mods that aren't even fully tested. PRL has a solid 10 second car and no issues so far. Don't just drop thousands of dollars just to be fast or the first one to be on full bolt ons. This guy probably blamed the tuner lol. Don't rush a build.

      @PhongVLG  Před 5 lety +1

      JOVTEC X I think you need to do your research before commenting, as I have never blamed my tuner or am running unknown brand parts, if you would check the mod list in the description you would happen to find out I am running a few PRL parts myself. These new 1.5L motors are prone to blow as the rods are the biggest weak point when chasing for extended power. Overtime the stress will send the rod through the block, PRL has a built motor on their latest set-up (guess you didn’t research that) & know themselves what the risk are on the stock block. You explain how people need to educate and research themselves but you completely missed researching yourself, wherever you saw that I am running unknown parts is a lie. I am open about my build and share all details of my journey, I have nothing to hide.

      @@PhongVLG The motor is built because they know what they're doing. Your jumping the gun expecting the car to handle so much power on a budget build. The "unknown" parts was referring to a previous video where you couldn't disclose the power it was making because you were running a prototype big turbo set up. Bolt ons will only get you so far with stock internals. Just do it right next time with patience.

      @PhongVLG  Před 5 lety +1

      JOVTEC X This platform is freshly new, no one knew the limits or weak points till now, matter of fact we still don’t know what the transmission limit is. Also, Built Internals didn’t just come out the moment the car did, it’s a learning process just as any other build. We’ve learned that these motors don’t hold as strong as the old K series motors, but what we’ve learned we share as a community. This wasn’t a budget build but a process, the prototype turbo was from a company known for making turbos for much higher-end cars than just the Si, yet you proclaimed in your last comment it’s from a company who doesn’t know what they are doing. You fail to miss the point that I’m here to “spend my money how I want” in order to share my experience and prevent others from thinking they can push power without consequence. This platform is easy to make power quick, but not everyone knows that the motors can’t handle over 300whp for long.

    Can straight up say it’s your tuners fault. Look at that torque curve gaining 200lbs of torque in 1500rpms is a lot. The motor comes stock with forged connecting rods so it’s a sad excuse especially seeing people running 550whp daily on these motors no problem. If they didn’t tune it in a way that the torque is like a light switch you wouldn’t have been forced to rebuild right away.

    • @PhongVLG
      @PhongVLG  Před 2 lety

      No one’s running 550whp daily on these 1.5L’s unless they are taking away a ton of torque, these motors naturally make alot of torque and also do not come with forge connecting rods, they are cast iron. These motors are economy motors and weren’t expected to push such power. This video is years back and as we’ve moved forward there are already built block packages for those wanting to achieve more out of these cars now.
