    TL;DR: Yumyum, you're a true gem on CZcams. Keep doing what you're doing providing real unbiased content.
    I've seen you comment on the difficulties of being a smaller channel and not getting the same access as the bigger channels. But, in my opinion, you not having the same press level access to bike brands is what makes your channel so special in today's CZcams space.
    It would be VERY difficult not to develop some level of unconscious bias, even if you aren't financially compensated by big brands, if you were being flown out to press events and developing close relationships with people in each brand while being provided free product. I see it happen to nearly every channel (not just in the MTB world) I’ve subbed to over the years as they go full-time and reach for maximal growth (cue the cringe "I pooed my pants face" thumbnail with "99% Don't Know This Easy Fix!!!" title). Not that big channel growth is bad, but relying on having relationships with brands in order to get early access (which has a direct effect on their channel financially), undoubtedly results in some level of unconscious favoritism. I don't blame any of these full-timers at all, but their channels definitely take on a different tone when they rely on their channel to support their livelihood and their families. I'm growing tired of every product review on other channels being the most glowing ad copy of the best thing ever made. Granted, bikes now are really really good, but c'mon with that, "The only real negative I can find is I wish it were more affordable, but you get a lot for the money ."
    So, we're all very lucky you are successful in your day job and get to make this channel exactly what YOU want it to be. I hope it continues to be a fun and fulfilling hobby/project worth the amount of work it takes while not being "work".
    With all that said, it's not that I DON'T want your channel to explode. You deserve it and more people would greatly benefit from your reviews and hearing what you have to say. But, I can feel pretty confident that when you give your honest opinion, it is just that.
    Thanks for coming to my TedTalk. Have you considered Patreon?

    Just got my SB140 LR a few weeks back. Have few rides on it and it's def a great all around bike. I was hoping that it was on par with the Ripmo as a lighter weight enduro bike. I came from a Megatower so I was hoping it would be a more lively climber but still able to handle steeper bits. So far so good!

    • @mtbyumyum
      @mtbyumyum  Před rokem +2

      Yeah, I think the SB140 fits right into that roll of a do everything bike! I could have no idea of where I would be riding and no matter the terrain I think I would be glad to be on the SB140!!

    • @duffyrides
      @duffyrides Před 2 měsíci

      My last back was the Megatower also and looking for a more pedal friendly machine now. How are you getting on with the SB140? How is it climbing? Is it a notieable difference to the Mega ? If not, then maybe i will look at the SB120 instead. Thanks!

    • @BogdanMiliu
      @BogdanMiliu Před 2 měsíci +1

      @@duffyrides I find it does better at tech climbing than the megatower, suspension is more supple and moves out of the way. The megatower with an air shock at least climbs pretty well. Where you see a big diffrence is that the sb140 feels better at lower speeds and it's just more fun but can still hang on the steeper bits ... but not as stable at high speed as megatower. If you're keeping the megatower I think adding a sb140 would be way too much overlap. I ditched the mega for the 140. I wanted to move down to a more all mountain/trail bike from enduro. Having said that ... i'm kinda making the sb140 a bit burlier now and put on a EXT Storia to help with the rough stuff .... Going to a sb120 from a megatower would be a totally different kind of bike but if you're going to have two bikes... I'd go SB120 so that there's more differentiation.

      @@BogdanMiliu thanks for that reply ! I sold the Megatower ..i do a lot of road riding these days and racing sometimes as well , but im looking to buy another MTB that will be the one to do it all, long mornings in the hills , and also get rowdy as I come from a. Motocross background and I just like to have as much fun as possible on any little jump I can find !

    • @BogdanMiliu
      @BogdanMiliu Před 2 měsíci +1

      @@duffyrides then the 140 should do well. One thing I love is how it feels when cornering. Def a smalller feeling bike and just feels great in corners. You can also turn it into a mini enduro if you wanted by putting on some dh tires and a coil shock. It’s def a well rounded bike.
      The sb120 would be more if you’re into doing long xc rides where speed and efficiency is the name of the game. Def try both out if you can. For me personally I skew towards the long travel side.

  • @marksandoval5361
    @marksandoval5361 Před rokem +4

    I think that a 77* STA and 65* is the ideal geo for an all around trailbike. The 77* STA is an ideal position for seated climbing. The 65* HTA is slack but not so slack that the front wheel feels floppy. Overall, you end up with a wheelbase that isn't too long for twisty trails or flat trails, but is still long enough to be a confident descender on steeper trails. And in my opinion, most trailbikes, Downcountry to All Mountain, should come with this geometry or something close.

    • @mtbyumyum

    2. There is something "wrong" with that bike, it begs you to go fast, like no matter what you do it wants you to do more.
    3. The Ripmo does everything this one does (just not as plushly), in my opinion.
    4. The Ripmo seems to take care of you all the time no matter what you do, and the Yeti begs you to find your limit.

      That's smart to point out but I've spent so much time on the Ripmo over the years and actually had a ripmo with the same m6 enve wheels... It's not that the two bikes aren't close... they're very close. I love the ripmo. I adore the Ripmo... for years now I've been telling everyone I could to buy one!! I would have no problem with the Ripmo being my only bike (although I would take the life sucking Fox 38 and Fox X2 off and replace them with a 36 and Float X shock) and I like the price point better than the sb140.... for $900 less on the Ripmo you get complete X01 and the sb140 you get a mix of GX/X01.... but at the end of the day, riding the bikes back to back, the sb140 wins out in every category... and trust me, nobody is more sad to say it than me. Mr. YumYum, a quick pop quiz for you: Looking at getting a new "downcountry" (blech, not my term, but it appears to be sticking... sigh...) bike.
    Looking to replace my 2020 Niner RKT. I ride mostly xc style trails (used to race a lot, now hardly ever race). Looking for a bike that will be a little more fun/capable on the downhills and tech-y sections of trail (but still be good to peddle all day).
    Top two contenders:
    1) 2023 Rocky Mountain - Element C50 build.
    2) 2022 Revel - Ranger V1.
    Both are currently on sale for 'essentially' the same price. A big selling point for both is 2 water bottle mounts in the main triangle (xc rider remember...). The Element has a touch more travel front/back, and is a touch slacker. The Element also come with Shimano XT build, while the Ranger has SRAM GX Eagle. (I'm historically a shimano guy, but SRAM seams quality to me).
    Which would you recommend? (And is there another bike I should be cosidering)?
    Thank you, thank you, and thank you....

  • @a8f235

    The seat tube is a full 1 degree steeper than the Switchblade. That's a big difference. I've heard you lots of times before rave about the Switchblade(I own one myself btw) and how good it is for climbing, but I feel you primarily focus on the traction through the DW linkage which yes is very good. The part that stand out though, is how the geometry make your butt zag behind and the front end getting light the steeper it gets. That becomes tiring very quickly, and increases the difficulty of getting up techy sections, even more so with 29er wheels.
    If you tested the two side by side I'm sure that yeti SB140 would feel less of an effort to climb techy things, or just riding up steep sections in general. Just the pedaling efficiency(traction) is not enough the evaluate how good a bike is to get up terrain, because there's a human on top of that bike that need an optimum geometry for shifting weight around given the task at hand.

    “It’s just like a piece of art!” It really, really is. Thank you for such an honest review. I’ve been riding the Yeti SB150 since 2019 and now the SB160 for 2023. I have noticed that there are A LOT of haters for the Yeti brand because of the scary price tag that goes along with their sleds. There’s a reason why these bikes are priced the way they are, if you’ve built something that far beats out anything else in the industry, you should be allowed to slap a hefty price tag on it. These bikes are truly remarkable to ride and I encourage anyone who has yet to ride one, to ride one, and then form your opinion!

    The previous SB130 seemed real racy but the rear suspension didn't seem optimized for how fast that bikes geometry could go. Chattery sections would destroy the teeth in your mouth because that suspension would shake and bounce the hell out of you. Good to hear that the replacement is more damp and composed.

      I just rode my '22 Sworks SJ evo again this morning before work... been riding it back-to-back with the sb140 and there's no contest. The sb140 wins out in every single category. I own both bikes and really enjoy both of them. I actually prefer the fit of the SJ evo better unless pedaling along flat or at least very moderate climbs in which case the sta is a bit too much for my liking. I could be happy with either of these bikes for my mid travel bike this season... or the Ripmo but if I had to choose just one. No doubt I would take the sb140. The Revel Rail29 is also very interesting to me and anxiously waiting for a test ride on that machine... Absolutely not trying to dig on your Stumpy. I really like the bike and it's an excellent value at the current discounts Big S is offering... it's just not on the same level as a sb140...

      @@mtbyumyum Fair assessment. For what it’s worth, I’m a considerably larger rider at 6ft, 207lbs, and appreciate the little things Specialized does. Down tube storage, carbon wheels on expert builds, adjustable headset, adjustable chain stay, and lifetime warranty. I am one of the lucky ones, who picked up a SW frame for $2,250 a couple months ago. The bike flat out makes me a better rider. Down tube storage isn’t a purist feature, so to speak, but I will flat out ignore brands that don’t offer it. I currently own the medium Ripmo and it feels perfect but the Yeti feels like my arms get stretched out quite a bit if I sit in the same position (same size).

    • @mtbyumyum
      @mtbyumyum  Před rokem +1

      I completely understand what you're saying about being in between sizes.... For me, 5'8" the medium sb140 with a 35mm stem and 750mm bars is just about perfect. I might prefer a slightly tighter experience like the Stumpy evo but absolutely no concerns for me on fit with this bike. Having ridden the Ripmo and sb140 back-to-back I was HYPER AWARE of the yeti sb130 need to load up the front.... this was on my mind entirely for the first 2-3 rides on the sb140. It has a much more neutral riding position compared to the sb130 and feels more balanced and easy going like the ripmo.. only better in my experience with more than a dozen rides on the sb140 at this point... I cant recommend it enough!!

I also think it’s awesome that he verbally shares his stoke about them while also being able to review and compare the details that matter (height and weight/sizing/specs/geo/ride feelings) so as to help people like myself understand the differences and make better decisions since we can’t easily try them ourselves.

      Value is in the eye of the beholder and everyone has a different idea of what something is worth... that said, no! If you have to ask what bike is the better dollar-to-dollar better bag for your buck, the Ibis will win... but I know several people who just want what's best... and don't care what the cost is. In that case, I think the new sb140 is the better bike!! If I were concerned about money and still wanted a very high end bike, I'd go Ibis all day!! For me personally, I'm very excited about this new sb140 and it will be my longer travel trail bike for this season.... and I was happy to pay the little bit of extra money to A: try something new and B: have what I think is the best trail bike available right now!!

But I need a good climber bike or pedaling bike in rainy season. Most of my ride from home between pavement and trail. Not gonna go crazy on this bike cuz it’s getting muddy in rainy season. So help me out to chose between this 2 bikes. Thanks men

      I've not yet ridden the 160 but you might consider finding a left over sb115.... incredibly fun, light weight and would complement the 160 really very well... if you need more bike than that and you're really only considering the 120/140 I would go with the standard 140....

But trek does there builds different and they don’t really have an equivalent to the specialized expert build. I would have the pay $6000 for a 9.8 and get a grip 1 fork instead of a grip 2, a shock without compression adjust, but get a carbon bar and wheels.
